How will you keep your faith in college? Drawing on their own experiences and years of ministry to young men and women during this transition of going to college, Nic and Syler provide a game plan you can follow to survive and thrive, to live out your faith in college. “Game Plan has the potential to equip our college students (and soon to be college students) with an anchored, informed, buoyant love for God that can breathe through every corner of their lives.” -Mark DeVries, president of Youth Ministry Architects and author of Sustainable Youth Ministry “This wise, straight-talking book offers much practical advice on the many challenges that Christian students face when they step onto the university campus. I highly recommend it.” -Paul Copan, Professor and Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics, Palm Beach Atlantic University “Get this book into the hands of your college bound students and children! Shannon Marion, National Field Director, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship “For every student headed to college, this is a must-read. Book We Must Change the Way We Live

Download or read book We Must Change the Way We Live written by Pat Obi and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-08 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presented with striking simplicity, We Must Change the Way We Live is a thoughtful and compelling narrative on financial prudence. It offers a simple-to-follow guide on how to plan for advanced education, retirement, debt elimination, and personal investments. It also lays out a reasoned view on how to strengthen Americas leadership in higher education and fiscal discipline. Unlike most other resources on financial education, the approach in this book is grounded on how we, as individuals, can be best prepared to not only become financially independent, but also, and perhaps even more important, offer a helping hand to others who otherwise would be limited in their own efforts to succeed. The authors early struggles in life, his humble beginnings as a naturalized American, and the unparalleled opportunities that America continues to offer, bolster the argument for self-empowerment. In that sense, this book begins with a thoughtful reflection on the core American values of hard work and excellence, both of which helped build this nation into an enviable destination for those seeking to actualize their dreams of a better life. At the dawn of the 21st Century, two important phenomena that gained renewed attention were globalization and financial crisis. Globalization is the reality of how economic integration among nations has heightened the pace of international competition, especially in commerce and technology. The collapse of the U.S. housing market in 2007, and the financial crisis that followed it, exposed the fragility of our financial system, in particular, when financial prudence is overlooked. In We Must Change the Way We Live, these events are used as a backdrop in articulating how we can advance our competencies to meet the rising challenges of the highly competitive and ever changing global economy.

Book Sick Schools

    Book Details:
  • Author : David V. Anderson
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2020-01-10
  • ISBN : 1532696884
  • Pages : 432 pages

Download or read book Sick Schools written by David V. Anderson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-01-10 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who's afraid of for-profit education? Those who work in non-profit or government owned and operated schools. Many parents and other stakeholders have been made fearful by this education establishment. What's more important to humans: nutrition or education? Nutrition is more important because it is the prerequisite for other human activities, including education. What organizations provide food and who pays for the food? Food is provided by for-profit farmers, for-profit processors, for-profit wholesalers, and for-profit retailers. Most food is purchased with the consumers' own money, but a significant amount is purchased by low-income individuals using food stamps. Why can't education be provided similarly using education stamps? We trust for-profit enterprises to provide our food. Why can't we trust for-profit enterprises to provide K-12 education? Fearmongers have frightened us and made us into gullible compliant socialists who despise commercial activities in education. Go to the supermarket and ponder its marvelous array of foods and then contemplate how a for-profit K-12 education sector would please and amaze its customers.

Book The Challenge of Independent Colleges

Download or read book The Challenge of Independent Colleges written by Christopher C. Morphew and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2017-12-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the intersection of new scholarship on higher education with on-the-ground insight into managing institutions. This book began as a collaboration among top higher education researchers, the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) scholars, and the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC). Documenting the challenges and opportunities facing independent colleges in several integral areas, including public purposes and student engagement, The Challenge of Independent Colleges is informed by the reactions of independent campus presidents and provosts who work every day to act on the opportunities presented by private colleges and universities. Each of the nine chapters is written by a leading higher education scholar and frames highly relevant issues for administrators at independent colleges and universities. Topics range from “Access and Affordability” and “Assessment” to “Ensuring Student Success” and “Institutional Strategy.” Each chapter is followed by a short, critical reaction written by a provost or president at a CIC member institution. These reactions demonstrate how the information contained in the chapter might be used by institutional leaders to make decisions and what other information on the chapter’s topic might be useful for leaders at independent colleges and universities. An important resource for higher education scholars and campus leaders, this text will also be a useful addition to courses on education. Contributors: John M. Braxton, Erin B.
