Book My Chinese Wedding

Download or read book My Chinese Wedding written by Thad Hughes and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2010-06-29 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am so happy that one day it finally occurred to me that I am the perfect person to create the foundation for Fun Learning Chinese Language because time and time again I have traveled to China and actually struggled to communicate with local people there. I know from experience which words are vitally important for foreigners to know. I built a language seminar which emphasizes the words which should be given first priority for new Chinese Mandarin speakers . Before you do anything significant in China such as: getting married, starting a business, or buying a home you would be wise to first get to know and understand China and how the Chinese operate. Trust me, it is more than a little different than what you might be use to in your own country. I traveled to China four times prior to buying my first home there, then, ultimately on my fifth visit I finally made a wise purchase. I traveled to China five times prior to having a formal wedding ceremony there and on my sixth trip I finally had the wedding ceremony of my life. You will have the benefit of learning from my experiences which are featured here in My Chinese Wedding. I hope that you will come away with one of the main underlying points of this book: that is, you had best use caution and invest your time wisely by doing some research before you just show up in China with your wallet in hand and void of inside contacts before you really commit to anything costly in China: that includes relationships. That being said, China is a big beautiful and very complex country filled with many wonderful people who 99% of the time will treat you right. Now enjoy the book and DVD called My Chinese Wedding. The book is a journey of sex, betrayal, love triangles, and ultimately true romance with a very happy ending. I had a blast living the journey and I hope that you will have a blast taking a deep look inside of the mysterious and seemingly closed walls of the People's Republic of China.

Book excerpt: Tobias Campion, rector of Moreton St Jude, is delighted to welcome the widowed Lady Chase as his parishioner. Charming and generous-spirited, she nonetheless harbours a secret sorrow: her son is missing, presumed dead, and her loathsome nephew Sir Marcus is desperate to declare himself heir to the estate. Much as Tobias dislikes Marcus, his feelings for another member of the family are rather different - the lovely Lady Dorothea enchants him from the very start, not least because of her kindly ways with the enigmatic governess Anne. Then Anne disappears on the very day that the body of a stranger is found in a local river. Surely she has not had a hand in his death? When it transpires that the man might have been bringing news of Lady Chase's missing son, Tobias is forced to quit the village to uncover the truth. Unfortunately, many of those he encounters in his travels are equally determined to keep the past well hidden...

Book excerpt: With hundreds of photographs and a wealth of information, Yin Yu Tang tells the history of a traditional Chinese house and the fascinating stories of its occupants. In the late Qing dynasty, around the year 1800, a prosperous Chinese merchant named Huang built a house for his family in a remote village southwest of Shanghai. He called the home Yin Yu Tang which means Hall of Abundant Shelter—implying his desire for the building to shelter many of his descendants. For seven generations, members of the Huang family ate, slept, laughed, cried, married and gave birth in the house. By the mid-1990s, the surviving members of the Huang family had moved away from Yin Yu Tang to take jobs in the cities. In 2003 the house found a new home as a permanent exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. This book, with its room-by-room, generation-by-generation documentation of life in the house, serves as a unique and invaluable introduction to traditional Chinese family and village life. Nancy Berliner, one of the country's foremost experts on Chinese furniture and arts, takes the reader on a tour of this unique homestead providing detail on Chinese architecture, construction methods, decoration, furniture and family heirlooms. She weaves a story of domestic life in Chinese culture by explaining the traditions of the family who lived here—especially their love and respect for family and ancestors. She also documents the remarkable restoration and reconstruction of Yin Yu Tang, truly a treasure trove of Chinese history. With hundreds of photographs, scores of primary documents, and thousands of fascinating details, Yin Yu Tang: The Architecture and Daily Life of a Chinese House offers a vivid portrait of everyday life in traditional China.

Book excerpt: It was the dawn of a New Year and I was ready to make my resolutions. As I watched the countdown of 2012 and prepared myself to usher in 2013, I made a commitment to complete a 1- year photography project that would explore and encompass Vancouver's Chinatown.I began in the cold months of early 2013 and started walking around Chinatown rather casually. I usually started from the large gate standing over Pender Street and then worked my way around the various other avenues and roads that encompassed Vancouver's Chinatown. I explored shops and stalls and observed people going about their daily lives, all while documenting it with my camera as best as I could. As I passed by people and observed both from a distance and up-close, a thought came to me: I was an outsider. I didn't know anyone in Chinatown and having not grown up in the neighborhood I found myself in unfamiliar territory. This meant that everything was fresh and new to me as I walked around the Chinatown streets but also meant that, despite a few visits to Chinatown in my earlier years, I was basically a blank canvas.
