Download or read book The End Of My Addiction written by Olivier Ameisen and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2010-06-03 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Olivier Ameisen was a brilliant cardiologist and running his own successful practice when he developed a profound addiction to alcohol. Fearing for his life, he immersed himself in AA, rehab and therapy. Nothing worked. So he did the only thing he could; he took his treatment into his own hands. Searching for a cure for his deadly disease, he happened upon baclofen, a muscle relaxant that had been used safely for years as a treatment for various types of muscle spasticity, but had more recently shown promising results in studies with laboratory animals addicted to a wide variety of substances. Dr Ameisen prescribed himself the drug and experimented with increasingly higher doses until he finally reached a level high enough to leave him free of any craving for alcohol. That was more than six years ago. Baclofen, as prescribed under a doctor's care, could possibly help many addicts. But as long as the medical and research establishments ignore a cure for one of the most deadly diseases in the world, we won't be able to understand baclofen's full potential. This book is a plea for research that can rescue millions from the scourge of addiction.

Book excerpt: Take every chance you get in life because some things only happen once! Ayana...I want him... There's no other way to say it; I want this man. Oh, I've wanted him since forever. He's just amazing. He's that perfect man you can't help but dream about. He has an amazing heart. He'll do anything for you. He has a smile that will make you melt where you stand. He has a body that's sheer perfection. And his eyes, oh man, they can look through your soul and strip you bare until you have no choice but to give yourself to him. It's a power he's had over me since the first day we met. Hands down, ladies, he's fine as hell. Oh, and his lips, goodness, I can't forget those. Let me tell you, the moment he touches you with his lips, you instantly cream. You can't help it. The feeling he generates is like no other. With just the simplest touch, he can make you soak with a need that only he can satisfy. He can effortlessly bring nothing but sweet ecstasy and pure desire all through your body. Do you see why I want him? He's my addiction, and I crave him with every second I draw breath. So why can't I have him? It's simple; I don't deserve him. You see I've had an opportunity to make him mine forever, and I blew it. I blew it so bad that I don't know if he'll ever give me another chance. But, oh, if he does, I promise you; I won't waste it.Brad... I've never met anyone like this woman. She had me the first day I laid my eyes on her. She's beautiful. No doubt about it; she's a goddess. She has curves that I can't keep my hands off of. Her skin is smooth like melted chocolate on your fingers. She has an unbelievable spirit and fierce loyalty that you'd want in your corner. Did I say she's sexy as shit? She turns me on with just the sheer thought of her. My favorite part of her are those lips of hers. Damn, I want to kiss her all the time. I can't get enough of her taste. She's made for me, I know this... I'm not denying that. I've been in love with her since before I even knew she existed. She's my best friend. I can't live without her. I just don't know if that's enough, if my love for her is enough. I want to give her a second chance, but I don't know if she's ready. They say that you only give second chances if a person has learned from their mistakes. What if she hasn't? What do you do when the one you love has an addiction stronger than you? Do you fight for her or do you let it consume you both? Life is about second chances. The question is can we survive?

During this journey, Velez-Mitchell comes closer to discovering her authentic self, embracing her ethnic identity, and accepting her true sexual orientation. Protected by a corrupt and self-serving local government, her masters fattened themselves on illegal enterprise. In this one book you have biography, treachery, and underworld intrigue. You have murder, and attempts at murder. You have innocence accused, and guilt unpunished. You have luxury, power, and privilege with their hands on all the strings. You have white lightning and whiskey runners, colorful whores, one great barroom brawl, and gunfights with such playbills as Cowboy Bob and the Shootout at The Fuzzy Duck. You have all the stuff of fiction, without the burden of a lie, all the benefit of great theatre, without having to leave your favorite chair. The best part of it is, it's all true. Down to the five o'clock shadow on the policemen dressed like prostitutes.

The author is looking to assist millions of people in different parts of the world through their journey to recovery as he details his experience and struggles with the hope of championing a global recovery revolution. Substance abuse and addiction remain a major plague that has continued to generate a lot of conversation across the globe due to its effect on people as well as its impact on the economies of nations. Unfortunately, recent statistics have shown a worrisome increase in the number of people suffering from addiction. According to a recent report published by the World Health Organization, about 270 million people, approximately 5.5% of the global population aged between 15 and 64, used psychoactive drugs with an estimated 35 million people suffering from drug use disorders and over 180 thousand deaths linked to drug use disorders in 2019. Unfortunately, many of the available addiction recovery resources are seemingly abstract, ultimately failing to yield the desired results. However, JR Weaver aims to change this narrative with the release of The Addiction Manifesto. The author personifies the recovery process, delivering an immersive experience to readers, as he writes about the trials and tribulations he faced during early recovery. JR Weaver aims to highlight the inherent powers of self-belief and how the personal desire to quit drug abuse remains the biggest obstacle to embracing a healthier, happier life. Published by Palmetto Publishing, The Addiction Manifesto initially started as a journal to help the author stay sober before he eventually decided to share his journey with the world as a self-help guide for persons in recovery as well as their loved ones. The book contains easy-to-implement yet effective tips that will help readers own their lives and become responsible members of the society. JR Weaver has already started to receive recognition from different quarters, emerging as a finalist at the 2020 International Book Awards in the Health: Addiction & Recovery category.

In his candid portrayal of life before, during, and after addiction, Green recalls sitting in drug dens, his face sunken, skin ashen, eyes wild, and pumping cocaine into his system all while wondering where he would find the money for his next hit. Most of all, Green remembers running. But when he was charged with assault during a robbery, the running stopped at least for the next eleven years. As Green shares the challenging journey of his recovery, he describes the joyless process that it became until the voice of a loving God spoke to his suffering soul and revealed his true identity. The Gods of Addiction is an inspirational story about the power of the gods of addiction to destroy lives and the power of God to save them.

This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most addictive behavior is rooted in some type of loss, be it the death of a loved one, coming to terms with limitations set by chronic health problems, or the end of a relationship. By turning to drugs and alcohol, people who have suffered a loss can numb their grief. In the process, they postpone their healing and can drive themselves further into addiction. The Mindfulness Workbook for Addiction offers readers an effective program for working through their addiction and grief with cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Created by a psychologist who works for the Department of Veterans Affairs and a marriage and family therapist who works for Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital, this mindfulness training workbook is effective for treating the emotion dysregulation, stress, depression, and grief that lie at the heart of addiction. No matter the loss, the mindfulness skills in this workbook help readers process their grief, determine the function their addiction is serving, and replace the addiction with healthy coping behaviors.
