Unsure what a bucket list is? Let''s take a minute to explain this. A bucket list is a collection of experiences you''d like to have before you kick the bucket. It might include places to visit, people to see, foods to eat, or any number of other things. Most people keep one long bucket list that covers every part of their lives. However, we think it''s much easier to keep several smaller lists. We like to split these lists up based on places we intend to travel to and have been making one for each state. Below is our Mississippi bucket list book. Hopefully, it works as inspiration so you can create a must-do Mississippi travel list of your own. Participate in the 50 books - 50 states challenge - with us! The old-fashioned way of travel with any bucket list usually looks as follows... You''re buying an expensive atlas, which includes plenty of beautiful photographs and descriptions of the destinations to which you plan to travel. Before you leave the house, within a matter of weeks, You will conclude, that in fact, you''ve seen everything already and nothing can phase you. A lot of people are giving up at this point and are ending their ,,life adventure" flipping through book pages. However, if you choose to go on a trip, you do every single thing, which a book tells you to do. You''re following the book schedule. Instead of being one of many, stay for a while and listen, what our way of traveling can look like. Take your Mississippi Bucket List Adventure & Memory Journal, pack your bag and go. Have you ever wondered about having your atlas with many beautiful pictures? You can easily make it on your own. The best descriptions are those, which are created by you. Describe precisely what caught your attention, or maybe mention the animals you encountered on your way? There must also be a place for a description of how you spent time with your family or friends. Do you want to get to know the most beautiful breathtaking natural wonders from anywhere? You have to do it on your own. Create your memory book, which you''ll be able to come back to for years, and then imagine the feeling of accomplishing your ,,bucket list" like true native Americans. The shelf is not a place for this book... The aim of it is to inspire You on the biggest life trip and make your dreams come true. The interior of the book includes: 1. Book The Fight for the Yazoo August 1862 July 1864

Download or read book The Fight for the Yazoo August 1862 July 1864 written by Myron J. Smith, Jr. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the loss of the CSS Arkansas in early August 1862, Union and Confederate eyes turned to the Yazoo River, which formed the developing northern flank for the South's fortress at Vicksburg, Mississippi. For much of the next year, Federal efforts to capture the citadel focused on possession of that stream. Huge battles and mighty expeditions were launched (Chickasaw Bayou, Yazoo Pass, Steele's Bayou) from that direction, but the city, guarded by stout defenses, swamps, and motivated defenders, could not be turned. Finally, Union troops ran down the Mississippi and came up from the south and the river defenses and the bastion itself were taken from the east. From July 1863 to August 1864, sporadic Confederate resistance necessitated continued Federal attention. This book recounts the whole story.

Book Civil War Biographies from the Western Waters

Download or read book Civil War Biographies from the Western Waters written by Myron J. Smith, Jr. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-01-28 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1861 to 1865, the Civil War raged along the great rivers of the Ohio and Mississippi valleys. While various Civil War biographies exist, none have been devoted exclusively to participants in the Western river war as waged down the Mississippi to the mouth of the Red River, and up the Ohio, the Tennessee and the Cumberland. Based on the Official Records, county histories, newspapers and internet sources, this is the first work to profile personnel involved in the fighting on these great streams. Included in this biographical encyclopedia are Union and Confederate naval officers down to the rank of mate; enlisted sailors who won the Medal of Honor, or otherwise distinguished themselves or who wrote accounts of life on the gunboats; army officers and leaders who played a direct role in combat along Western waters; political officials who influenced river operations; civilian steamboat captains and pilots who participated in wartime logistics; and civilian contractors directly involved, including shipbuilders, dam builders, naval constructors and munitions experts. Each of the biographies includes (where known) birth, death and residence data; unit organization or ship; involvement in the river war; pre- and post-war careers; and source documentation. Hundreds of individuals are given their first historic recognition.

Book Lost Mansions of Mississippi

Download or read book Lost Mansions of Mississippi written by Mary Carol Miller and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As preservationist Mary Carol Miller talked with Mississippians about her books on lost mansions and landmarks, enthusiasts brought her more stories of great architecture ravaged by time. The twenty-seven houses included in her new book are among the most memorable of Mississippi's vanished antebellum and Victorian mansions. The list ranges from the oldest house in the Natchez region, lost in a 1966 fire, to a Reconstruction-era home that found new life as a school for freed slaves. From two Gulf Coast landmarks both lost to Hurricane Katrina, to the mysteriously misplaced facades of Hernando's White House and Columbus's Flynnwood, these homes mark high points in the broad sweep of Mississippi history and the state's architectural legacy. Miller tells the stories of these homes through accounts from the families who built and maintained them. These structures run the stylistic gamut from Greek revival to Second Empire, and their owners include everyone from Revolutionary-era soldiers to governors and scoundrels.
