Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teacher's Manual, Vol. 1: For First, Second, and Third Grades; With Accompaniments for Book One and Additional Note Songs, Folk Dances and Singing Games; The Progressive Music Series The music material comprises the best that could be found in the libraries of America and Europe; original songs written by many of the foremost liv ing composers; and characteristic folk songs, many of which were obtained from sources hitherto unavailable. In selecting the music for the series, the first concern of the editors was to assemble only songs of unquestioned merit from the standpoint of real musical worth. These approved songs, whether original or otherwise, were then classified With reference to their technical features and assigned to their appropriate places in the course. This plan assures that all the material of the series Whether illustrating a technical problem or presented for recreational singing comprises only songs of un questioned cultural value. In the case of original contributions, the primary object was to obtain an unrestrained expression of the composer's individuality. Genuine interest in the series and complete cooperation on the part of the composer were se cured through personal interviews. As a result the series is able to offer a large number of beautiful and original songs by eminent composers songs which represent the composer at his best and give free expression to his indi vidual style and manner. Download or read book The Education of the Music Teacher Classic Reprint written by Thomas Tapper and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-11 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Education of the Music Teacher IT has been well said that many things reach the intellect that never reach the consciousness.' Thus, one may read the injunction Love thy neighbor as thyself; may give intellectual as sent to it as a wise and just line of conduct to pursue, and yet may never so thoroughly adopt it as to resolve it into a spontaneous impulse to action. Now the whole purpose of life clearly shows itself to be the up-building of the consciousness; the perception of facts by the intellect and their conscious acceptance by the inner self as working principles. Thus the individual is strengthened and his field of vision is enlarged. His purpose becomes specifically directed, and his work is more perfectly accomplished. The object of this book is to bring certain essential facts particularly before the teacher; 1 Sigurd Ibsen, Human Quintessence. Generally speaking it is not hard to say whether a sound should be called a noise or music, but it is harder to define what music is in so many words. The following is fairly comprehensive, though not very exact: Music is the effect of sound under certain conditions and when in accordance with certain rules. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual for Teachers, and Rote Songs, to Accompany the Tonic Sol-Fa Music Course for Schools There is a growing demand for intelligent singing in our public schools. Although the study of vocal music has long been a recognized part of our public instruction, the results, taken as a whole, have been very unsatisfactory. The Tonic Sol-fa method has been taught now for fifteen years in the public schools of Great Britain, with such success that it is superseding all other systems of teaching vocal music. It has recently been introduced into several of the public schools of America, and in every instance has won the hearty approval of the teachers. Without any unnecessary complications, it sets forth in a plain, unmistakable way, the fundamental principles of music. The method is carefully arranged in progressive steps, and is so entirely in accord with true educational principles, that school teachers can and do teach it as successfully as they teach other branches of study. Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Music Teacher: Adapted to Self-Instruction, Both for Teachers and Learners; Embracing Also an Extensive Dictionary of Musical TermsTn: origin of the enterprise which the memen has undertaken in rendering into English the present work, is traceable to a fact in his own experience. When, some years since, be commenced a more methodical and thorough course of musical studies, he at once found himself without the requisite helps. Notwithstanding he possessed himself of such books as could be found in this country, there still remained a most obvious and im portant deficiency. These books were all found to be defective in two particulars; first, in the absolute want of matter, and secondly, in the manner of communication. A great many things which were continually sought for, and which it is seriously important to every musical student to know, were not to be met with in any of them. Thus a deficiency was seen to exist, which must leave the mind in ignorance, conjecture and doubt, on many points most vitally concerned both with musical knowledge and musical practice. Indeed, this defectiveness extends even to matters involved in common, every-day musical perform ance and so great is the chasm which it leaves in all the instructions relating to Harmony and Composition, that the latter can scarcely be said to be taught at all. On the other hand, as it regards the manner in which these books present their instructions, it was found to be, as universal experience finds it to be, confused, pedantic, blind, and misleading. Their intricate and complicated forms of expression; their affected, foreign, pedantic terms; their general looseness and obscurity of style, render it almost impossible to get at their real meaning, on the one hand, while, on the other, by interposing unnecessary and almost in superable difficulties in the way of the learner, they either dissuade him from his attempts altogether, or needlessly encumber, obstruct and retard his course of advancement.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
