Book Music and the Power of Sound

Download or read book Music and the Power of Sound written by Alain Daniélou and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 1995-08-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Music has always been esteemed for its power to speak directly to our higher consciousness, a power founded in the purity of simple harmonic ratios. In this book, Alain Danielou traces the development of musical scales and tuning from their origins in both China and India, through their merging in ancient Greece, and on to the development of the Western traditions of modal and polyphonic music. Understanding these potent harmonic relationships offers a way for today's musicians to transcend the limitations of overly rationalistic music by drawing on its metaphysical roots.

Book The Influence of Music on the Development of the Church of God Cleveland Tennessee

Download or read book The Influence of Music on the Development of the Church of God Cleveland Tennessee written by Benson Vaughan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the influence of music on the development of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee). This narrative is historically driven, but relies upon an interdisciplinary approach to draw on the insights of ecclesiology, theology, liturgiology, church development, and especially music. This study utilizes a chronological and systematic approach to the relationship between music and the Church of God in the United States during the first 125 years of the denomination's history, from 1886 to 2011. For over a century, music has been an often-neglected dialogue partner at the table of academic discussion and this research argues for recognition and a proper place in Pentecostal history. Along with primary and secondary sources, the important element of "living archives" is investigated in this work; these are interviews with people who participated in historical music events in the Church of God. The book also relies upon musical examples to explore the influence of music upon the shaping of the denomination's history and theology.

Book The Influence of Room Acoustics on Solo Music Performances

Download or read book The Influence of Room Acoustics on Solo Music Performances written by Zora Schärer Kalkandjiev and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the question of how musicians are influenced by their room acoustical environment when playing on a concert hall stage. Even though the concept of adapting a music performance to room acoustics is often taken for granted by musicians, it is unclear if and how such adjustments take place in practice and which aspects of room acoustics play a role in this context. Empirical investigations in both real-world and simulated concert halls are presented in the book to shed light on the question. A case study with a cellist performing in European concert halls as well as a laboratory study with musicians playing in virtual room acoustical environments simulated by means of dynamic binaural synthesis were conducted. Both investigations make use of room acoustical computer models to determine the room acoustical conditions typically encountered by musicians on stage. Software-based performance analysis is employed to quantify musically and perceptually relevant aspects of performance. The influence of diverse room acoustical parameters on numerous performance characteristics is investigated with the statistical methods of multilevel regression models.

Book The Influence of Aural Training in Music on the Perceptive Performance of Adult Learners Sound Discrimination Abilities in an Unknown Foreign Language

Download or read book The Influence of Aural Training in Music on the Perceptive Performance of Adult Learners Sound Discrimination Abilities in an Unknown Foreign Language written by Friederike Flottmann and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2011 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can aural training in music enhance your sound-discrimination abilities for languages? The study sets off to answer this question by testing 50 German-speaking students of non-linguistic degrees for their abilities to discriminate between sounds in Finnish, a language previously entirely unknown to them. 25 randomly selected subjects then went through an aural training in music for two weeks before all the subjects were retested in their aural-perceptive abilities in the Finnish language by means of a similar test containing different test items. The hypothesised positive effect of the musical intervention could be partially proved by a statistically significant mean enhancement in the final scores achieved by the trained group compared to an insignificant enhancement achieved by the control group.

Book Music and Its Secret Influence

Download or read book Music and Its Secret Influence written by Cyril Scott and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-01-23 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of music in the evolution of humanity • Reveals how a hierarchy of initiates, evolved spiritual intelligences, and devas actively influenced the musical compositions of geniuses to transmit great truths through music • Explores the influence of the classical composers Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Schumann, Wagner, and Strauss--from Beethoven’s influence on the creation of psychoanalysis to Chopin’s musical influence on the emancipation of women Composer and author Cyril Scott explores the role of music in the evolution of humanity and shows how it has pushed human evolution forward. He explains that music has a profound effect on history, morals, and culture and is a more potent force in the molding of character than religious creeds or moral philosophies. Whereas mediocre musicians reflect only their own times, inspired ones help determine the character of the future. Exploring the works of classical composers such as Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Chopin, Wagner, and Strauss, Scott reveals how their compositions were actively influenced by a hierarchy of initiates, evolved spiritual intelligences, and devas to make the way fertile for human spiritual evolution. Scott explains how humans are composed not only of a physical body, emotional body, and a mental body but also a sensation body that acts as the bridge between the physical realm and the hierarchy of initiates. Scott shows how the music of great composers affects not only those listening but also society as a whole--from Beethoven’s influence on the creation of psychoanalysis to Chopin’s musical influence on the emancipation of women.
