Book The Role of the State in Pension Provision Employer Regulator Provider

Download or read book The Role of the State in Pension Provision Employer Regulator Provider written by Gerard Hughes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the role of the State in pension provision as an employer, regulator and provider. Part I deals with problems and reforms of public sector pension systems in OECD countries. The countries covered are Denmark, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, and the USA. Part II considers the regulation of occupational pension schemes in The Netherlands and the United Kingdom, and whether there is still a role for the State in providing earnings-related pensions in the United Kingdom. Part III presents demographic projections for the next half-century, using Ireland as an example, looks at some of the options which have been used in Finland, and proposed in the United States, to cope with population ageing, and examines issues of intergenerational equity which are posed by these options. All the chapters deal with recent reforms. The chapters are written by acknowledged experts in their field who are independent of both the pensions industry and Government. Hence the chapters provide an informed critical account of current developments in relation to the reform of occupational pension schemes in the public sector and of the debate about the State's role as a regulator of private pension schemes and a provider of pensions based on the social insurance principal. The book is important as a source of information about pension schemes in OECD countries. It shows that there is not a unique model of occupational pension provision for public sector employees and that the pension benefits which are provided in different countries are quite variable. It also shows that public sector occupational pension systems have changed and are in the process of considerable further change in a number of OECD countries.

The result is a unique and authoritative reference that examines virtually all tax instruments used by governments (individual income, corporate income, sales and value-added, property, estate and gift, franchise, poll, and many variants of these taxes), as well as characteristics of a good tax system, budgetary issues, and many current federal, state, local, and international tax policy issues. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Updated for 2017! "Retirement Income for Illinois Fire and Police," written for the men and women in uniform, provides detailed but simple information on the benefits from each public safety pension system, Social Security, and public employee deferred compensation. Illinois police and fire professionals receive retirement income from a variety of sources, most of which differ from their private-sector friends and neighbors. Chicago, suburban and downstate, state police, Cook County, other counties, university and college officers, and small-town professionals in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. It's all here. The author then expands the scope to examine how public pension plans are structured and funded and discusses some of the "hot topics" in Illinois. How big of a cost-savings will come from the Tier 2 structure? Do police and fire personnel really not live as long as the rest of us? Will municipal bankruptcy endanger Illinois pensions? What can we all do to protect public pensions in Illinois? And more? Book Social Security Policy in a Changing Environment

Download or read book Social Security Policy in a Changing Environment written by Jeffrey R. Brown and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2009-12-15 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Security Policy in a Changing Environment analyzes the changing economic and demographic environment in which social insurance programs that benefit elderly households will operate. It also explores how these ongoing trends will affect future beneficiaries, under both the current social security program and potential reform options. In this volume, an esteemed group of economists probes the challenge posed to Social Security by an aging population. The researchers examine trends in private sector retirement saving and health care costs, as well as the uncertain nature of future demographic, economic, and social trends—including marriage and divorce rates and female participation in the labor force. Recognizing the ambiguity of the environment in which the Social Security system must operate and evolve, this landmark book explores factors that policymakers must consider in designing policies that are resilient enough to survive in an economically and demographically uncertain society.

Download or read book Migration Vulnerability written by Marius Olivier and published by African Sun Media. This book was released on 2024-09-10 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title explores the urgent and often overlooked issue of social protection for migrant workers, focusing on Africa's rapidly evolving migration landscape. As international labour migration continues to surge due to both push and pull factors, this book delves into the social protection deficits experienced by three key migrant groups: high-skilled professionals, informal economy workers, and those impacted by climate change. Organised into 15 insightful chapters, the book offers a cross-disciplinary examination of these challenges, drawing on perspectives from law, economics, social development, and environmental studies. By highlighting the limited access to social security benefits faced by these groups, it presents a compelling case for the need for robust policy interventions. This authoritative volume not only fills a critical gap in this research but also serves as a vital resource for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners dedicated to improving the welfare and security of migrants in Africa and beyond.
