Book Perspectives in Spread Spectrum

Download or read book Perspectives in Spread Spectrum written by Amer A. Hassan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perspectives in Spread Spectrum brings together studies and recent work on six exciting topics from the spread spectrum arts. The book gives a wide, collective view of trends, ideas, and techniques in the spread spectrum discipline, due to the authors' extensive work on spread spectrum techniques and applications from different vantage points. The inexorable march of electronics towards ever faster, ever smaller, and ever more powerful electronic and optical circuitry has wrought, and will continue to enable, profound changes in the spread spectrum arts, by allowing increasingly complex signalling waveforms and statistical tests to be implemented as the theory beyond spread spectrum continues to evolve. Perspectives in Spread Spectrum is divided into six chapters. The first chapter deals with sequence spreading design. There is not a single metric for design of spreading sequences; rather, the design is ideally tailored to the specific scenario of usage. This chapter delves into recent and very promising synthesis work. The second chapter deals with OFDM techniques. As channels become wider and trans-channel fading (or jamming) becomes frequency selective across the band, OFDM techniques may provide a powerful alternative design perspective. The third chapter is a generalization of the venerable Walsh functions. A new modulation scheme, Geometric Harmonic Modulation, GHM for short, is reviewed and characterized as a form of OFDM. From GHM, a further generalization of the Walsh functions is derived for non-binary signalling. The fourth chapter is concerned with some new and exciting results regarding the follower jammer paradigm. A counter-countermeasure technique is reviewed, notable for its counterintuitive characteristic which can be understood from a simple yet elegant game framework. The fifth chapter recounts some results pertaining to random coding for an optical spread spectrum link. The technique is based on laser speckle statistics and uses a coherent array of spatial light modulators at the transmitter but allows the receiver to be realized as a spatially distributed radiometric and therefore incoherent structure. The sixth and final chapter looks at an important and interesting application of spread spectrum to accurately locate a wideband, ‘bent pipe’, satellite transponder. It is, in a strong sense, an inverted GPS technique. Perspectives in Spread Spectrum serves as an excellent reference and source of ideas for further research, and may be used as a text for advanced courses on the topic.

Book Adaptive Spread Spectrum Systems Using Filterbanks and the Discrete Wavelet Transform

Download or read book Adaptive Spread Spectrum Systems Using Filterbanks and the Discrete Wavelet Transform written by Gary J. Saulnier and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report discusses the development of new approaches for providing anti-jam, multipath resistant, multi-user communications based on filterbank and wavelet techniques. The first portion considers the synthesis of spreading waveforms using full binary tree multi-rate filterbank design techniques. Non-binary spreading waveforms are produced that are optimized for multi-user, multipath and interference channels and shown to out-perform some conventional spreading sequences. The second part of the report describes and evaluates a spread spectrum version of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) wherein the same information is transmitted on multiple orthogonal carriers, creating both time and frequency diversity. In the receiver, time domain and transform domain excision are used to improve performance in pulsed wideband or narrowband jamming, respectively. In addition, the report considers replacing the inverse and forward FFT's commonly used in OFDM systems with inverse and forward Modulated Lapped Transforms (MLT's). Performance results demonstrate the effectiveness of the techniques. For both the spreading waveform design and OFDM work, simulations were performed using the Signal Processing WorkSystem (SPW) from AltaGroup of Cadence Design Systems, Inc.

Book Methods and Apparatuses Using Filter Banks for Multi carrier Spread Spectrum Signals

Download or read book Methods and Apparatuses Using Filter Banks for Multi carrier Spread Spectrum Signals written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A transmitter includes a synthesis filter bank to spread a data symbol to a plurality of frequencies by encoding the data symbol on each frequency, apply a common pulse-shaping filter, and apply gains to the frequencies such that a power level of each frequency is less than a noise level of other communication signals within the spectrum. Each frequency is modulated onto a different evenly spaced subcarrier. A demodulator in a receiver converts a radio frequency input to a spread-spectrum signal in a baseband. A matched filter filters the spread-spectrum signal with a common filter having characteristics matched to the synthesis filter bank in the transmitter by filtering each frequency to generate a sequence of narrow pulses. A carrier recovery unit generates control signals responsive to the sequence of narrow pulses suitable for generating a phase-locked loop between the demodulator, the matched filter, and the carrier recovery unit.

Download or read book Multirate Systems and Filterbanks written by Dr. Alok Jain and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Window functions have been successfully used in various areas such as filtering, beam forming and multirate signal processing. Due to available closed form expressions, the role of windows is economical. One of the key applications is the design of FIR filters. These filters are used in decimators and interpolators which are the basic building blocks for any multirate system and filterbank. In present scenario, a system with an improved performance, better quality, little error is the prime requirement. With this objective FIR multirate filters are designed using window functions. These functions can be used to design half-band filters where fifty percent filter coefficients result with zero value. With bandpass filters more than seventy percent zero valued coefficients are obtained if they preserved the concept of half-band symmetry. On the basis of error criterion filterbanks are of two types, viz., pseudo filterbanks and perfect reconstructed filterbanks. A new linear optimization algorithm is applied to obtain the pseudo filterbanks. Lag windows can be used to design energy efficient filters called compaction filters. The compaction gain is very near to optimal ones.

Book Analysis and Design of FIR Multirate Filter Banks

Download or read book Analysis and Design of FIR Multirate Filter Banks written by Adnan M. S. Al-Adnani and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is concerned with the analysis and design of FIR multirate filter banks. Focusing on the time-frequency relation of the filter bank structures, various design methods have been developed. Standard digital filtering techniques are used such as windowing, and least squares in conjunction with the multirate structures of the filter banks to obtain efficient designs that will allow a great degree of flexibility in controlling the frequency characteristics of the filters. A spectral factorisation technique is introduced to design three-channel based systems in the z-domain. This method extends the well known two-channel based design, and requires no numerical optimization. Time-domain algorithms are introduced to design M-channel systems with arbitrary length filters and arbitrary system delays. Aliasing cancellation and perfect reconstruction conditions in the time domain are addressed. A recursive technique is proposed which uses the synthesis filters from one iteration to update the analysis filters for the next. Wavelets provide a new method for time-scale analysis of non-stationary signals. Filter banks are used to construct several classes of wavelet transforms; orthonormal, bi-orthogonal, and new low delay wavelets using the time-domain formulation.
