Book Elsevier s Dictionary of Soil Science

Download or read book Elsevier s Dictionary of Soil Science written by A. Canarache and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-10-17 with total page 1355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dictionary includes some 9200 terms, each with a definition and often and additional descriptive text in English, the terms being translated in French, German and Spanish. It is more complete than similar previously published dictionaries or glossaries, and contains all fields of soil science as well as some adjacent fields of other earth sciences, agriculture and engineering. Present concepts and definitions are detailed along with earlier concepts, not only for historical reasons but also for developing new ideas. Concepts, terms and definitions usual in literature of various countries are discussed and compared, to offer an appropriate exchange of ideas. Soil classifications and methodologies for soil investigation coming from a score of European, American and other countries and international organisations are presented, and correlations between names of soil taxa in different classifications are suggested. Readers active in all branches of soil science will find accessible answers to many of their questions, either directly referring to procedures used in the organisations where they work, or related to way of thinking in other countries. Readers active in other branches, but needing information on soils, will also find answers to this dictionary of great assistance to their research.* Over 9200 terms with definitions in English and translations in French, German, Spanish* Includes all fields of soil science and many connected sciences* All present-day terminology with inclusion of earlier, classical concepts and terms * Terminology in current USDA Soil Taxonomy, FAO World Reference Base or Soil Resources, and other documents from different countriesGranted the "N.Cernescu" award from the Romanian Academy on Agricultural and Forestry Sciences

Book A Handbook of Soil Terminology Correlation and Classification

Download or read book A Handbook of Soil Terminology Correlation and Classification written by Pavel Krasilnikov and published by Earthscan. This book was released on 2009-12 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil classification and terminology are fundamental issues for the clear understanding and communication of the subject. However, while there are many national soil classification systems, these do not directly correlate with each other. This leads to confusion and great difficulty in undertaking comparative scientific research that draws on more than one system and in making sense of international scientific papers using a system that is unfamiliar to the reader. This book aims to clarify this position by describing and comparing different systems and evaluating them in the context of the World Reference Base (WRB) for Soil Resources. The latter was set up to resolve these problems by creating an international 'umbrella' system for soil correlation. All soil scientists should then classify soils using the WRB as well as their national systems. The book is a definitive and essential reference work for all students studying soils as part of life, earth or environmental sciences, as well as professional soil scientists.Published with International Union of Soil Sciences

Book Glossary of Soil Science Terms

Download or read book Glossary of Soil Science Terms written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The SSSA has published definitions or glossaries of soil science terms since 1956. These glossaries were developed by various terminology committees of SSSA. New terms were carried as appendices in the five revised editions of the Glossary published from 1971 through 1979, plus a supplement in October 1982. The 1984 revision incorporated a policy that all acceptable terms appear in a single alphabetical list. Appendices would include obsolete terms, tabular information, proposed new terms or guidelines, etc. This revision of the Glossary does not have a separate list of obsolete terms. None of the terms in the Glossary of Soil Science Terms are considered official by the SSSA. They are publishedin an effort to provide a foundation for common understanding in communications covering soil science.

Book Soil Classification

Download or read book Soil Classification written by Hari Eswaran and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-12-26 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in soil classification have accompanied parallel progress in our understanding of the soil system. However the theories behind the classifications and the purposes for which they were created have changed over time. The editors hope that this comprehensive synthesis will help to rally soil scientists around the world to develop an acceptable classification system for soils. It is only when the global soil science community agrees to such a system that we can truly say that we have science. Soil Classification: A Global Desk Reference is the first book to illustrate the current state of national and international soil classification systems. In this groundbreaking reference, distinguished soil scientists, many of whom were involved in the design of their respective national or international systems, evaluate developments in soil classification during the last century. They review the concepts, practices, and goals that led to the creation of individual classification systems and recommend modifications to classification systems to meet new demands. The documentation in this book serves as a foundation for the revision of existing soil taxonomies and the creation of new ones.

Book Major Soil Groups of the World

Download or read book Major Soil Groups of the World written by Jean-Paul Legros and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-09-20 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This profusely illustrated book gives an exhaustive account of the principal types of soils of our planet. The "progressive descent of weathering fronts" model, recognized and used by eminent international scientists is the guiding principle of choice to link the observations and to give the reader a synthetic and coherent view of the differentiation of soils. In each case, the introductory reminders summarize the physicochemical and mineralogical principles necessary for understanding the text. The nomenclatures rely systematically and simultaneously on the two most commonly used classifications: Soil Taxonomy and World Reference Base. This reference manual is aimed at students of the undergraduate and graduate courses, but is also intended for workers and scientists in this subject area (geologists, pedologists, agronomists, land-use planners, foresters, etc.) as well as for all those concerned with or interested in protection of the environment.
