Book 23 European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering

Download or read book 23 European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering written by Ben-Guang Rong and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-06-10 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, the nonsharp split and its effect to the synthesis of multicomponent distillation configurations are investigated. For any zeotropic mixture with N-component, two kinds of nonsharp splits can be introduced in a separation sequence, namely the symmetric nonsharp split which is fully sloppy split of the middle components, and the asymmetric split which is partially sloppy split of the middle components. First, with intended sharp and nonsharp splits, different distinct separation sequences can be formulated for a multicomponent distillation. For the distinct separation sequences, different ways to deal with the condensers and reboilers associated with submixtures of middle components are presented. It is shown that different traditional distillation configurations can be generated which may have equal to N-1 or more than N-1 columns. From the different traditional distillation configurations, the intensified distillation systems with less than or equal to N-1 columns are derived. It is shown that the combination of the individual columns in the traditional distillation configurations has dramatic effect to the generation of the intensified distillation systems. It is found that traditional distillation with more than N-1 columns gives more opportunities to synthesize the intensified distillation systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Distillation Principles and Practice Second Edition covers all the main aspects of distillation including the thermodynamics of vapor/liquid equilibrium, the principles of distillation, the synthesis of distillation processes, the design of the equipment, and the control of process operation. Most textbooks deal in detail with the principles and laws of distilling binary mixtures. When it comes to multi-component mixtures, they refer to computer software nowadays available. One of the special features of the second edition is a clear and easy understandable presentation of the principles and laws of ternary distillation. The right understanding of ternary distillation is the link to a better understanding of multi-component distillation. Ternary distillation is the basis for a conceptual process design, for separating azeotropic mixtures by using an entrainer, and for reactive distillation, which is a rapidly developing field of distillation. Another special feature of the book is the design of distillation equipment, i.e. tray columns and packed columns. In practice, empirical know-how is preferably used in many companies, often in form of empirical equations, which are not even dimensionally correct. The objective of the proposed book is the derivation of the relevant equations for column design based on first principles. The field of column design is permanently developing with respect to the type of equipment used and the know-how of two-phase flow and interfacial mass transfer.

Book Distillation Theory and its Application to Optimal Design of Separation Units

Download or read book Distillation Theory and its Application to Optimal Design of Separation Units written by F. B. Petlyuk and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-10-18 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 2004, Distillation Theory and Its Application to Optimal Design of Separation Units presents a clear, multidimensional geometric representation of distillation theory that is valid for all distillation column types, splits, and mixtures. This representation answers such fundamental questions as: what are the feasible separation products for a given mixture? What minimum power is required to separate a given mixture? What minimum number of trays is necessary to separate a given mixture at a fixed power input? This book is intended for students and specialists in the design and operation of separation units in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, wood, petrochemical, oil-refining, and natural gas industries and for software designers.
