Book Diffusion in Multicomponent Polymeric Coatings

Download or read book Diffusion in Multicomponent Polymeric Coatings written by Raj Arya and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-07 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several models have been developed to describe the diffusion transport in multicomponent polymeric coatings using Bearman s friction factor theory. In this work, all the available models have been tested against measured concentrations at several depths and time in given coating using confocal laser Raman spectroscopy. Experimental results shows that none of the model is able to predict complete drying behavior of multicomponent polymeric coatings. A new method has been developed to find near optimum drying condition for binary coating. Method has been tested for multizone dryers. It needs only a drying code and obviates the need of optimization subroutine. Non-Fickian trasnport has been observed experimentaly and it is first work which shows experimental proof of non-Fickian drying in polymeric coatings which turns glassy at drying conditions.

This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat resistant layers are meant to withstand high temperatures while also protecting against all types of corrosion and oxidation. Therefore, the micro-structure and behavior of such layers is essential in understanding the functionality of these materials in order to make improvements. Production, Properties, and Applications of High Temperature Coatings is a critical academic publication which examines the methods of creation, characteristics, and behavior of materials used in heat resistant layers. Featuring coverage on a wide range of topics such as, thermal spray methods, sol-gel coatings, and surface nanoengineering, this book is geared toward students, academicians, engineers, and researchers seeking relevant research on the methodology and materials for producing effective heat resistant layers.

Book Protective Coatings and Thin Films

Download or read book Protective Coatings and Thin Films written by Y. Pauleau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-12-31 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume entitled "Protective Coatings and Thin Films : Synthesis, Characterization and Applications" contains the Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) held in Alvor, Portugal from May 30 to June 5, 1996. This NATO-ARW was an expert meeting on the surface protection and modification of solid materials subjected to interactions with the environment. The meeting attracted 10 key speakers, 40 contributing speakers and 3 observers from various countries. The existing knowledge and current status of the science and technology related to protective coatings and thin films were assessed through a series of oral presentations, key notes (titles underlined in the volume content) and contributed papers distributed over various sessions dealing with: (a) plasma-assisted physical and chemical vapor deposition processes to enhance wear and corrosion protection of materials, (b) low friction coatings operating in hostile environment (vacuum, space, extreme temperatures, . . . ), (c) polymer films for protection against mechanical damage and chemical attack, (d) characterization of the structure of films and correlations with mechanical properties, (e) wear and corrosion resistant thermal spray coatings, (f) functional gradient ceramic/metallic coatings produced by high energy laser beam and energetic deposition processes for high temperature applications, (g) protective coatings for optical systems, and (h) ion beam assisted deposition of coatings for protection of materials against aqueous corrosion.

Book Current Trends in Boriding

Download or read book Current Trends in Boriding written by Michal Kulka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-30 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most important thermochemical and physical techniques of boriding. The formation and characterization of different boride layers or boride coatings are compared in this book. The author analyzes the technological aspects of boriding processes, presenting the advantages and disadvantages of each method. The effect of the boriding techniques on the microstructure of borided materials are also indicated. The mechanism of formation of active boron atoms or ions and the phenomena during re-melting of alloying material together with the substrate are described. Special attention is devoted to powder-pack boriding, electrochemical boriding in borax, gas boriding, plasma gas or paste boriding and laser or plasma surface alloying with boron, acknowledged as the most important current methods in boriding. The thermodynamics of gas boriding is also analyzed.

Book Introduction to Surface Engineering

Download or read book Introduction to Surface Engineering written by P. A. Dearnley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly illustrated reference work covers the three principal types of surface technologies that best protect engineering devices and products: diffusion technologies, deposition technologies, and other less commonly acknowledged surface engineering (SE) techniques. Various applications are noted throughout the text and additionally whole chapters are devoted to specific SE applications across the automotive, gas turbine engine (GTE), metal machining, and biomedical implant sectors. Along with the benefits of SE, this volume also critically examines SE's limitations. Materials degradation pathways - those which can and those which cannot be mitigated by SE - are rigorously explained. Written from a scientific, materials engineering perspective, this concise text is supported by high-quality images and photo-micrographs which show how surfaces can be engineered to overcome the limits of conventionally produced materials, even in complex or hostile operating environments. This book is a useful resource for undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as professional engineers.
