Book Multi dimensional Approaches Towards New Technology

Download or read book Multi dimensional Approaches Towards New Technology written by Ashish Bharadwaj and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access edited book captures the complexities and conflicts arising at the interface of intellectual property rights (IPR) and competition law. To do so, it discusses four specific themes: (a) policies governing functioning of standard setting organizations (SSOs), transparency and incentivising future innovation; (b) issue of royalties for standard essential patents (SEPs) and related disputes; (c) due process principles, procedural fairness and best practices in competition law; and (d) coherence of patent policies and consonance with competition law to support innovation in new technologies. Many countries have formulated policies and re-oriented their economies to foster technological innovation as it is seen as a major source of economic growth. At the same time, there have been tensions between patent laws and competition laws, despite the fact that both are intended to enhance consumer welfare. In this regard, licensing of SEPs has been debated extensively, although in most instances, innovators and implementers successfully negotiate licensing of SEPs. However, there have been instances where disagreements on royalty base and royalty rates, terms of licensing, bundling of patents in licenses, pooling of licenses have arisen, and this has resulted in a surge of litigation in various jurisdictions and also drawn the attention of competition/anti-trust regulators. Further, a lingering lack of consensus among scholars, industry experts and regulators regarding solutions and techniques that are apposite in these matters across jurisdictions has added to the confusion. This book looks at the processes adopted by the competition/anti-trust regulators to apply the principles of due process and procedural fairness in investigating abuse of dominance cases against innovators.

Download or read book Cultivating Peace written by Marty Branagan and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultivating Peace: Contexts, Practices and Multidimensional Models moves away from negative connotations associated with the concept of post-conflict peacebuilding. It embraces a multiplicity of trans-disciplinary approaches to peacebuilding, mostly coinciding with the eco-horticultural metaphor of peace cultivation. Ultimately, the idea of cultivating peace embodies love and compassion, while utilising local knowledge, expertise and wisdom to do no harm. Using various case studies from across the world, the narratives and insights in this book present diverse facets of peacebuilding, yet all contribute constructive lessons. The chapters cover three general themes. Some examine the structural and discursive causes of violence and how to improve situations where violence is evident, or to prevent it from breaking out. Others deal with the aftermath of violence and how to reconcile and restore shattered lives and societies. The third group deals with positive social change by nonviolent means, which is much more constructive than the “negative peace” of ceasefires and peace enforcement used to manage direct violence. Promoting the ideal of peace cultivation, this volume emphasises ways to improve things, to suggest alternatives, and to employ initiatives to plant and grow positive changes both during the fighting and in the aftermath of violent conflicts.

Book Business Valuation

Download or read book Business Valuation written by Manfred Jürgen Matschke and published by UTB. This book was released on 2021-04-19 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: And assigns them to the relevant function of business valuation. Breaking down business valuation into three stages is a major step toward improving the transparency of the process. The steps introduced in this book are 1. Determination of relevant data acquisition, 2. Transformation of relevant data in a value, 3. Use of the determined value. A key aspect of this textbook is its analysis of the valuation process from the perspective of both buyer and seller. Ultimately, the book will present readers with the key principles of functional business valuation, which if it had been applied more widely, the authors argue, could have mitigated the severity of at least some recent financial crises. The book offers students, researchers, and practitioners interested in or involved in valuation clearly formulated learning goals and selected control questions. The systematic concept outlined also makes the book very well suited for self-study.

This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: El Salvador has made significant development progress in the past 30 years. The end of the civil war in 1992 marked the establishment of a liberal democracy and an open export-led development model, which led to a reduction in poverty and inequality. However, with economic growth averaging a modest 2.4% in the years before the COVID-19 pandemic, and productivity growth of 0.1% over the past decade, the post-war model has not generated the economic momentum or the jobs that the country needs.

Book Multi dimensional Collaborative Governance of Urban Sharing Platforms

Download or read book Multi dimensional Collaborative Governance of Urban Sharing Platforms written by Jiachen Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a brief review of current development models and governance of urban sharing platforms, and looks into the economic efficiency of a novel market transaction model of sharing economy, which has been accelerated by high-density urban population and the Internet technology. With an aim to solve current problems featuring excessive competition, waste of resources, security risks, and unfair competition, this book delves into the two governance models in accommodation sharing platforms and bike and car sharing platforms and puts forward a multi-dimensional collaborative governance model that involves the participation of enterprises, the government, and the community. Under such a model, the platforms may utilize their own key technologies to implement supervision and solicit feedback; the government may resort to tax regulation and reallocating shared space to mitigate the negative externality effect and promote fair competition; and the community, as the basic unit of a city, may play its part through on-site participation and real-time feedback.
