Book excerpt: Mr. Germ: Creating Handwashing Awareness is a book that could save lives. It's a story that illustrates where germs come from and how to make sure you don't spread as many germs. Mr. Germ will help to teach the children closest to you that washing their hands is essential, especially now. Every child will enjoy this knowledgeable story that teaches them how to keep everyone around them safe. There's so much to like about this story, and the thing that parents will like the most is how easy the book was to understand. It's important for books aimed at children to be written in a fun way that they'll remember. The rhyming included in Mr. Germ is definitely fun enough to keep a child's attention. The illustrations really popped out from the page, and they can easily transport children to the scene of each page. The images told the story and lessons without even needing to look at the words. Reading the words definitely helps to get the message across. But if there were no words, it would be clear as to what was going on by the pictures. The handwashing lessons and the overall story are great matches. The suggested age range for this book is three and above because the child needs to be able to understand the book for it to have a real impact on how well they wash their hands.

Download or read book Germs written by Judith Miller and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this “engrossing, well-documented, and highly readable” (San Francisco Chronicle) New York Times bestseller, three veteran reporters draw on top sources inside and outside the U.S. government to reveal Washington's secret strategies for combating germ warfare and the deadly threat of biological and chemical weapons. Today Americans have begun to grapple with two difficult truths: that there is no terrorist threat more horrifying—and less understood—than germ warfare, and that it would take very little to mount a devastating attack on American soil. Featuring an inside look at how germ warfare has been waged throughout history and what form its future might take (and in whose hands), Germs reads like a gripping detective story told by fascinating key figures: American and Soviet medical specialists who once made germ weapons but now fight their spread, FBI agents who track Islamic radicals, the Iraqis who built Saddam Hussein's secret arsenal, spies who travel the world collecting lethal microbes, and scientists who see ominous developments on the horizon. With clear scientific explanations and harrowing insights, Germs is a vivid, masterfully written—and timely—work of investigative journalism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Germ cell tumors are relatively rare compared with other malignancies, and compilations of knowledge that encompass the entire spectrum of the disease are lacking. This textbook, written by the foremost authorities in the field, rectifies the situation by discussing in depth a broad range of topics, including biology, epidemiology, pathology, treatment, and late effects. Bearing in mind that germ cell tumors are most prevalent in the adolescent and young adult age group, causes of disease and treatment approaches in pediatric and adult patients are compared and contrasted. By spanning the entire life course, from prenatal origins of disease through to treatment in adults and late effects of treatment, the editors have produced a book that will be of interest to both pediatric and adult oncologists.
