Book IUTAM Symposium on Recent Advances in Moving Boundary Problems in Mechanics

Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Recent Advances in Moving Boundary Problems in Mechanics written by Stefanie Gutschmidt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-28 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many problems in mechanics involve deformable domains with moving boundaries, including fluid-structure interaction, multiphase flows, flows over soft tissues and textiles, or flows involving accretion/erosion to name but a few. The presence of a moving boundary presents considerable challenges when it comes to modelling and understanding the underlying system dynamics. This proceedings volume collects contributions made at the IUTAM Symposium on Recent Advances in Moving Boundary Problems in Mechanics held in Christchurch, New Zealand in February 2018.

Book Mapping Polygons

    Book Details:
  • Author : Yann Disser
  • Publisher : Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 3832530231
  • Pages : 136 pages

Download or read book Mapping Polygons written by Yann Disser and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2011 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis focuses on the exploration of polygonal environments with simple agents. The goal is to understand what minimal capabilities such agents need in order to draw a map of their environment. Starting from a very basic agent model, we investigate what extra capabilities agents need in order to reconstruct the visibility graph of their environment. Some combinations of capabilities are shown to be insufficient, while others are shown to be sufficient. For the latter, we present reconstruction algorithms and algorithms for meeting with other agents.

Book Moving Boundary PDE Analysis

Download or read book Moving Boundary PDE Analysis written by William Schiesser and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-05-29 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical models stated as systems of partial differential equations (PDEs) are broadly used in biology, chemistry, physics and medicine (physiology). These models describe the spatial and temporial variations of the problem system dependent variables, such as temperature, chemical and biochemical concentrations and cell densities, as a function of space and time (spatiotemporal distributions). For a complete PDE model, initial conditions (ICs) specifying how the problem system starts and boundary conditions (BCs) specifying how the system is defined at its spatial boundaries, must also be included for a well-posed PDE model. In this book, PDE models are considered for which the physical boundaries move with time. For example, as a tumor grows, its boundary moves outward. In atherosclerosis, the plaque formation on the arterial wall moves inward, thereby restricting blood flow with serious consequences such as stroke and myocardial infarction (heart attack). These two examples are considered as applications of the reported moving boundary PDE (MBPDE) numerical method (algorithm). The method is programmed in a set of documented routines coded in R, a quality, open-source scientific programming system. The routines are provided as a download so that the reader/analyst/researcher can use MFPDE models without having to first study numerical methods and computer programming.

Book Boundary Crossing of Brownian Motion

Download or read book Boundary Crossing of Brownian Motion written by Hans R. Lerche and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a research report about my work on sequential statistic~ during 1980 - 1984. Two themes are treated which are closely related to each other and to the law of the iterated logarithm:· I) curved boundary first passage distributions of Brownian motion, 11) optimal properties of sequential tests with parabolic and nearly parabolic boundaries. In the first chapter I discuss the tangent approximation for Brownianmotion as a global approximation device. This is an extension of Strassen' s approach to t'he law of the iterated logarithm which connects results of fluctuation theory of Brownian motion with classical methods of sequential statistics. In the second chapter I make use of these connections and derive optimal properties of tests of power one and repeated significance tests for the simpiest model of sequential statistics, the Brownian motion with unknown drift. To both topics:there under1ies an asymptotic approach which is closely linked to large deviation theory: the stopping boundaries recede to infinity. This is a well-known approach in sequential stötistics which is extensively discussed in Siegmund's recent book ·Sequential Analysis". This approach also leads to some new insights about the law of the iterated logarithm (LIL). Although the LIL has been studied for nearly seventy years the belief is still common that it applies only for large sampIe sizes which can never be obser ved in practice.

Book Robot Intelligence Technology and Applications 6

Download or read book Robot Intelligence Technology and Applications 6 written by Jinwhan Kim and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-31 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims at serving the researchers and practitioners in related fields with a timely dissemination of the recent progress on robotics and artificial intelligence. This book is based on a collection of papers presented at the 9th International Conference on Robot Intelligence Technology and Applications (RiTA), held at KAIST in Daejeon, Korea, in a hybrid format, on December 16–17, 2021. Humankind is getting through the third year of COVID-19 pandemic. While this pandemic has made everyone’s life so challenging, it has also expedited transition of our everyday lives into a new form, often called “the new normal.” Although many people often use the terminology, perhaps we still do not have a consensus about what it is and what is should be like. One thing that is clear is that robotics and artificial intelligence technologies are playing critical roles in this phase transition of our everyday lives. We see last-mile delivery robots on the street, AI-embedded service robots in the restaurants, uninhabited shops, non-face-to-face medical services, conferences and talks in metaverses and AI-based online education programs. For better readability, the total of 53 papers are grouped into four chapters: Chapter I: Motion Planning and Control; Chapter II: Design and Robot Application; Chapter III: Sensing, Perception and Recognition; and Chapter IV: Cognition, Autonomy and Intelligence. For those who have research on robot intelligence technology, we believe this book will help them understand the recent robot technologies and applications and enhance their study.
