Book excerpt: MOTOCOURSE 2020-2021 celebrates its 45th year of publication - and despite the World pandemic throwing the sport into chaos, what a year it was for motorcycle racing! In a thrilling MotoGP season, Marc Marquez and Honda were expected to be the dominant force once more, but an accident in the opening round saw him side-lined for much of the season and left him with but a slim chance of retaining his MotoGP crown. Other riders stepped up in his absence and shared out victories. Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso, and Yamaha's trio of Maverick Vinales, Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli all took to the top step of the podium. The emergence of KTM as a race winning machine saw both Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira join the list of first time winners, in a close fought battle for supremecy throughout the whole of the MotoGP field. Once again, Valentino Rossi defied the years to remain at the sharp end of the grid, whilst the Suzuki pair of Alex Rins and Joan Mir both looked equally capable of adding to the list of winners in an enthralling contest for the title. Editor Michael Scott provides a no-holds-barred assessment of all the aspects of a compelling season's action. MOTOCOURSE alone has full coverage of the support classes, Moto2 and Moto3, where Italian riders Luca Marini, Estea Bastinanini, Marco Bezzecchi were contenders to clinch the Moto2 crown, whilst Albert Arenas, Ai Ogura and John McPhee hotly disputed the Moto3 title. In World Superbikes, Kawasaki's dominance was challenged by Ducati's Scott Redding, with Jonathan Rea looking to retain his championship title for the sixth successive year, ahead of the chasing pack including Alavaro Bautista, Chaz Davies and Yamaha's Michael van der Mark. No book covers the motorcycle racing world in as much detail as MOTOCOURSE, which, in addition to the two major world series covers The World Supersport Championship, The British Superbike Championship and the AMA USA Superbike series. Incredible value for money, with 304 large-format pages, bursting with over 450 stunning colour photographs from the world's finest photographers, MOTOCOURSE covers it all. No wonder MOTOCOURSE is regarded worldwide as 'The Bible of Motorcycle Racing'.
Download or read book Motocourse written by Dennis Noyes and published by Hazelton Publishing (UK). This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This official history of the FIM Grand Prix motor cycle racing World Championship, since its formation in 1949, records the action from a sport that has seen massive changes during the last 50 years with Japanese manufacturers eclipsing their European rivals, purpose-built race circuits replacing true road courses and a reduction in the number of Grand Prix classes. In other respects it has enjoyed remarkable continuity, as motor cycle racing has remained the domain of the major manufacturers anxious to promote the awareness of their road machines. Contemporary Grand Prix designs are clearly descended from the bikes raced in the 1950s. This book traces the major trends and developments during the last 50 years and it profiles the legendary riders, teams and innovators that have dominated the sport during this period. Concluding the history is a comprehensive and detailed results section which provides an invaluable source of reference for any motor cycle enthusiast.

Book excerpt: Derek Minter started his racing career in 1953 on a BSA Gold Star. His early promise as an inexperienced youngster was very quickly fulfilled. After transferring to a couple of Nortons he soon became ‘King of Brands’, succeeding the famous John Surtees. After becoming double British Champion in 1958, two years later he became the first man to lap the Isle of Man TT circuit at over 100mph on a single cylinder bike. During 1962 he not only became triple British Champion, but also won the 250cc TT on a privately entered Honda-beating the might of the Honda works team in the process. Then in 1963 he rode for the Geoff Duke Scuderia Gilera squad and only a crash early in the season prevented him seriously challenging World Champion Mike Hailwood for the 500cc title. By 1965 he held the lap record for virtually every British short circuit. And by the time he retired at the end of 1967 had ridden for many manufactures, including MZ, Moto Morini, Bianchi, REG, EMC, Honda and Norton. Derek Minter: King of Brands is a fitting tribute to one of the world’s greatest ever motorcycle racing stars.

Download or read book Finding 49 and America s Forgotten Motocross Team written by Keith Geisner and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valentino Rossi once said, "To be a great motorbike racer, the most important thing is passion for the bike." Vintage motocross enthusiast Keith Geisner has this passion, and it leads him on a journey of discovery when he finds an old Harley-Davidson dirt bike for sale online. A mere moment's pause on a photograph, and Keith becomes both restorationist and researcher of a piece of American motocross history. Through social media, emails, phone calls and sheer tenacity, Keith uncovers the bike's unique history. His extensive research led him to motocross legends and Bill Davidson, the great-grandson of Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Co. founder William Davidson. His story is a detective novel for motorcycle enthusiasts where every page, like an enduro, is full of twists and turns. # I like to refer to the author as "Detective Geisner." His tireless efforts to unearth historical details about the Harley-Davidson motocross project have no bounds and his enthusiasm for the subject borders on obsession. He has traveled extensively to meet and interview the riders, mechanics, and engineers who were involved. His "investigations" have turned up details about the MX project that were sometimes unknown even to those of us who worked on the H-D Factory team in those days. So, it's fair and correct to say that this book is the definitive study of Harley-Davidson's controversial participation in American motocross. Well done, Keith Geisner! Download or read book John Britten written by Tim Hanna and published by . This book was released on 2023-11-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Britten has taken his place as a New Zealand hero since his tragically early death from cancer in 1995. He and his dedicated team in Christchurch designed and built the Britten V-twin motorcycle from scratch. For a time, this machine was probably the fastest four-stroke bike in the world. It could wheel stand at 150 miles per hour simply by opening up the throttle. After five years of research, Tim Hanna has finally been able to give due credit to the man and his achievements. The biography details Britten's early life, the development of his vision, and the early prototype motorcycles, and then dives into the grueling cycle of hard work, set-backs, and failures before the Britten V-twin finally was able to beat the world's best. His bike had legions of fans worldwide who not only were captivated by the elegance, originality, and power of his machine, but also by the romance of his story--an individual taking on some of the worlds' biggest and best motorcycle manufacturers and winning. This title appeals to readers both inside and outside the motorcycle fraternity because of its universally inspiring theme--that extraordinary things are possible when a person turns their dreams into reality.
