Download or read book Motion Analysis and Image Sequence Processing written by M. Ibrahim Sezan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An image or video sequence is a series of two-dimensional (2-D) images sequen tially ordered in time. Image sequences can be acquired, for instance, by video, motion picture, X-ray, or acoustic cameras, or they can be synthetically gen erated by sequentially ordering 2-D still images as in computer graphics and animation. The use of image sequences in areas such as entertainment, visual communications, multimedia, education, medicine, surveillance, remote control, and scientific research is constantly growing as the use of television and video systems are becoming more and more common. The boosted interest in digital video for both consumer and professional products, along with the availability of fast processors and memory at reasonable costs, has been a major driving force behind this growth. Before we elaborate on the two major terms that appear in the title of this book, namely motion analysis and image sequence processing, we like to place them in their proper contexts within the range of possible operations that involve image sequences. In this book, we choose to classify these operations into three major categories, namely (i) image sequence processing, (ii) image sequence analysis, and (iii) visualization. The interrelationship among these three categories is pictorially described in Figure 1 below in the form of an "image sequence triangle".

This subject area exemplifies a meaningful manifestation of the power of the technologies of the second industrial revolution. The first chapter in this volume on cardiovascular systems emphasizes the importance of accurate measurements of cardiac shape and dynamics as they reflect the scope of cardiac diseases, the major cause of mortality in developed countries today. Cardiac imaging plays an important role in this regard, and almost the only one in this clinical context.

Download or read book Video Data Compression for Multimedia Computing written by Hua Harry Li and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past few years, we have been witnessing the rapid growth of the ap plications of Interactive Digital Video, Multimedia Computing, Desktop Video Teleconferencing, Virtual Reality, and High Definition Television (HDTV). An other information revolution which is tied to Cyberspace is almost within reach. The information, data, text, graphics, video, sound, etc. , in the form of multi media, can be requested, accessed, distributed, and transmitted to potentially every household. This is changing and will continue to change the way of people doing business, functioning in the society, and entertaining. In the foreseeable future, many personalized, portable information terminals, which can be car ried while traveling, will provide the link to central computer network to allow information exchange including videos from a node to node, from a center to a node, or nodes. Facing this opportunity, the question is what are the major significant technical challenges that people have to solve to push the-state-of-the-art for the realiza tion of the above mentioned technology advancement? From our professional judgement We feel that one of the major technical challenges is in Video Data Compression. Video communications in the form of desktop teleconferencing, videophone, network video delivery on demand, even games, are going to be major media traveling in the information super highway, hopping from one node in the Cyberspace to the other.

Download or read book Video Coding for Mobile Communications written by Mohammed Al-Mualla and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-05-13 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order for wireless devices to function, the signals must be coded in standard ways so that the sender and the receiver can communicate. This area of video source coding is one of the key challenges in the worldwide push to deliver full video communications over wireless devices. Video Coding for Mobile Communications reviews current progress in this field and looks at how to solve some of the most important technology issues in the months and years ahead. The vision of being able to communicate from anywhere, at any time, and with any type of information is on its way to becoming reality. This natural convergence of mobile communications and multimedia is a field that is expected to achieve unprecedented growth and commercial success. Current wireless communication devices support a number of basic multimedia services (voice, messages, basic internet access), but have coding problems that need to be solved before "real-time" mobile video communication can be achieved. - Addresses the emerging field of mobile multimedia communications

Download or read book Motion Analysis for Image Sequence Coding written by G. Tziritas and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the fourth in the book series, Advances in Image Communication, a series dedicated to exploring the rapidly evolving, multidisciplinary field of image communications. Each publication stands alone as a state-of-the-art reference work in its particular area of expertise. It also forms an integral part of the comprehensive overview of developments across the field, which the series offers as a whole. Motion Analysis for Image Sequence Coding documents the technical advances made through the years in dealing with motion in image sequences - from straightforward coarse approaches to complicated algorithms. It is timely because of the unprecedented effort which is made to establish a set of international standards for the digital compression of moving pictures and television signals. These standards rely heavily on motion estimation and compensation techniques and will be exploited on a large scale in multimedia applications as well as in intelligent systems. The book will be of prime importance, not only to active engineers and researchers in the field, but also by serving as a basic educational tool.
