Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mother Nature has issued human beings various warnings over the years, some subtle, some not so subtle; messages she intended to wake us up with, ones that would stop us from directing the planet onto a path that, some say, might already be irreversible. Unfortunately, these messages have largely gone unheeded up until now, which is why Mother Nature has decided to create something new: an Agent that is absolutely unpredictable. Her hope is that humanity will finally wake up and not only begin to preserve the planet, thus saving it from death and destruction, but bringing us humans back to the knowledge that we are one regardless of race, class or colour, and that by working together we can finally attain our freedom. Mother Nature and the Agent is about paying close attention to the greatest signs she has ever given us, so we can ultimately bring about change and welcome in a new era.

Book excerpt: In the 1970s, John Denver was America’s biggest-selling solo star, a singer whose crossover appeal drew millions of fans from the worlds of folk, pop, and country music. Beneath the tranquil surface of his music and his clear tenor voice, however, lurked a darker side to Denver’s character. The wholesome figure who cavorted with the Muppets was a troubled alcoholic. Delving into the singer’s past, John Collis found a man who was considerably more complex than the placid surface of his music might suggest. And, in looking at Denver’s career, Collis assesses his contribution not only to the world of music, but to the culture of which he was both a protagonist and a victim.

Book Darwinian Evolution and Classical Liberalism

Download or read book Darwinian Evolution and Classical Liberalism written by Stephen C. Dilley and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Darwinian Evolution and Classical Liberalism canvasses an array of thinkers from the past to the present as it examines fundamental political, philosophical, ethical, economic, anthropological, and scientific aspects of the ferment between Darwinian biology and classical liberalism. Early chapters focus on classical thinkers like John Locke and Adam Smith, while later chapters provide analyses of present-day classical liberals, focusing especially on F.A. Hayek, Thomas Sowell, and Larry Arnhart, the most prominent advocates of ‘contemporary’ classical liberalism. Thematically, the volume falls into three parts. Part I examines foundational matters, arguing that Darwinism and classical liberalism hold incompatible visions of morality, human nature, and individual autonomy. This section also contends that the free market’s spontaneous order is fully compatible with a teleological (or non-Darwinian) view of the universe. Part II turns to contemporary applications, contending that Darwinism and classical liberalism are at odds in their views of (or implications about) limited government, vital religion, economic freedom, and the traditional family. This section also argues that, since its inception, Darwinism has attenuated core tenets and values of classical liberalism and Western civilization. Part III of the volume contains alternative views to those in the first two parts, adding critical diversity to the book. Respectively, these chapters hold that Darwinian evolution simply has little to say about classical liberalism; an evolutionary account of human volition is fully compatible with the individual choice presupposed in classical liberalism; and evolutionary naturalism, unlike religious alternatives, provides a strong foundation for freedom, morality, and the traditional family.

This book was released on 2011-03-31 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YinYang bipolar relativity can trace its philosophical origins to ancient Chinese YinYang cosmology, which claims that everything has two sides or two opposite, but reciprocal, poles or energies. More specifically, this discipline is intended to be a logical unification of general relativity and quantum mechanics. YinYang Bipolar Relativity: A Unifying Theory of Nature, Agents and Causality with Applications in Quantum Computing, Cognitive Informatics and Life Sciences presents real-world applications of YinYang bipolar relativity that focus on quantum computing and agent interaction. This unique work makes complex theoretical topics, such as the ubiquitous effects of quantum entanglement, logically comprehendible to a vast audience.

Book Intentional Behaviorism

Download or read book Intentional Behaviorism written by Gordon Foxall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2020-04-10 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intentional behaviorism is a philosophy of psychology that seeks to ascertain the place and nature of cognitive explanation of behavior by empirically determining the scope of an extensional account of behavior based on the limitations of a behavioral approach to explanation. This book draws on an empirical program of research in economic psychology to establish a route to a reliable and justifiable intentional explanation of behavior. Since the cognitive revolution in psychology, intentional explanations of behavior have become the norm, and as the methodology that provides the normal science component of psychology, cognitivism is sometimes accepted relatively uncritically. However, there is a lack of understanding of the role of psychological research in determining the place and shape of intentionality. This book explicates the philosophy of psychology that the author has devised and applied in his work on economic psychology and behavioral economics. Given the provenance of intentional behaviorism, economic and consumer psychology forms the primary application basis for the book. This book provides a theoretical background to understanding how and why consumers make the choices they do. The book integrates behavioral economics, consumer psychology, and decision-making research to explore intentional behaviorism, which is proposed as a philosophical framework for consumer psychology, viewing economic behavior in the contexts of modern human consumers in affluent marketing-oriented societies. - Integrates research in behavioral economics, decision-making, cognitive psychology, and consumer psychology. - Offers readers an interdisciplinary look at intentionality and intentional explanations. - Proposes a theory of intentional behaviorism to explain economic behavior, consumer choice, and other decision-making. - Examines the methodologies of philosophers of mind such as Dennett and Searle.

Book From AI to Robotics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Arkapravo Bhaumik
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2018-02-28
  • ISBN : 1482251485

Download or read book From AI to Robotics written by Arkapravo Bhaumik and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From AI to Robotics: Mobile, Social, and Sentient Robots is a journey into the world of agent-based robotics and it covers a number of interesting topics, both in the theory and practice of the discipline. The book traces the earliest ideas for autonomous machines to the mythical lore of ancient Greece and ends the last chapter with a debate on a prophecy set in the apparent future, where human beings and robots/technology may merge to create superior beings – the era of transhumanism. Throughout the text, the work of leading researchers is presented in depth, which helps to paint the socio-economic picture of how robots are transforming our world and will continue to do so. This work is presented along with the influences and ideas from futurists, such as Asimov, Moravec, Lem, Vinge, and of course Kurzweil. The book furthers the discussion with concepts of Artificial Intelligence and how it manifests in robotic agents. Discussions across various topics are presented in the book, including control paradigm, navigation, software, multi-robot systems, swarm robotics, robots in social roles, and artificial consciousness in robots. These discussions help to provide an overall picture of current day agent- based robotics and its prospects for the future. Examples of software and implementation in hardware are covered in Chapter 5 to encourage the imagination and creativity of budding robot enthusiasts. The book addresses several broad themes, such as AI in theory versus applied AI for robots, concepts of anthropomorphism, embodiment and situatedness, extending theory of psychology and animal behavior to robots, and the proposal that in the future, AI may be the new definition of science. Behavior-based robotics is covered in Chapter 2 and retells the debate between deliberative and reactive approaches. The text reiterates that the effort of modern day robotics is to replicate human-like intelligence and behavior, and the tools that a roboticist has at his or her disposal are open source software, which is often powered by crowd-sourcing. Open source meta-projects, such as Robot Operating System (ROS), etc. are briefly discussed in Chapter 5. The ideas and themes presented in the book are supplemented with cartoons, images, schematics and a number of special sections to make the material engaging for the reader. Designed for robot enthusiasts – researchers, students, or the hobbyist, this comprehensive book will entertain and inspire anyone interested in the exciting world of robots.

Download or read book Language Mind and Logic written by Butterfield and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1986-05-22 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a collection of eleven original essays in analytical philosophy by British and American philosophers, centring on the connection between mind and language. Two themes predominate: how it is that thoughts and sentences can represent the world; and what having a thought - a belief, for instance - involves. Developing from these themes are the questions: what does having a belief require of the believer, and of the way he or she relates to the environment? In particular, does having a belief require speaking a language? The volume concludes the informal series stemming from the meetings sponsored by the Thyssen Foundation. It will interest analytical philosophers, students doing courses in philosophy of mind within the analytical tradition and philosophically interested researchers in cognitive psychology.
