Book Mother Goose Goes Broadway

Download or read book Mother Goose Goes Broadway written by Antonia Gazetas Weese and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mother Goose Goes Broadway is a musical, educational, mystical play production with an intergraded story line meant to work along with some school curricula and reading programs, including math, English, Reading, and Science. An original musical play that uses an educational story line in order to bring an awareness of sex, drugs, abductions, and violence. Bulling would be an example. This awareness is brought to our Youths in our communities through the arts, we can reach into the hearts of our youths. Using their minds and talents in expressing themselves. Our youths come from all denominations and creeds. Music has a way of cancelling a person's origin. Teaching them to work and live together is our goal. Physical and Mental Stress Training thru the Arts. Parents and teachers are somewhat at a loss, leaving their children to take care of one another. Due to parents' work hours, teachers are left to pick up the pieces at school and try to fix situations. Back in the day, this might have been okay. Today, we have to unite for the welfare of all citizens. Community leaders must mentor our youths for the well-being of our children's survival. People must help, or all of us will lose sight of our youths. Antonia Gazetas Weese wants to pull youths and communities together. By writing this musical play, we as a community can start a successful pilot program for students to stay in school and make education their focus and continue to college. Teachers and students can bring any community together with fine arts programs intergraded through the colleges and high schools. This book is a good example of how to put on a musical, bring it together, and receive credit for participating.

Book Off Broadway Musicals 1910 2007

Download or read book Off Broadway Musicals 1910 2007 written by Dan Dietz and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite an often unfair reputation as being less popular, less successful, or less refined than their bona-fide Broadway counterparts, Off Broadway musicals deserve their share of critical acclaim and study. A number of shows originally staged Off Broadway have gone on to their own successful Broadway runs, from the ever-popular A Chorus Line and Rent to more off-beat productions like Avenue Q and Little Shop of Horrors. And while it remains to be seen if other popular Off Broadway shows like Stomp, Blue Man Group, and Altar Boyz will make it to the larger Broadway theaters, their Off Broadway runs have been enormously successful in their own right. This book discusses more than 1,800 Off Broadway, Off Off Broadway, showcase, and workshop musical productions. It includes detailed descriptions of Off Broadway musicals that closed in previews or in rehearsal, selected musicals that opened in Brooklyn and in New Jersey, and American operas that opened in New York, along with general overviews of Off Broadway institutions such as the Light Opera of Manhattan. The typical entry includes the name of the host theater or theaters; the opening date and number of performances; the production's cast and creative team; a list of songs; a brief plot synopsis; and general comments and reviews from the New York critics. Besides the individual entries, the book also includes a preface, a bibliography, and 21 appendices including a discography, filmography, a list of published scripts, and lists of musicals categorized by topic and composer.

Book The Oxford Companion to the American Musical

Download or read book The Oxford Companion to the American Musical written by Thomas S. Hischak and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-06-02 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the silver screen to the Great White Way, small community theatres to television sets, the musical has long held a special place in America's heart and history. Now, in The Oxford Companion to the American Musical, readers who flocked to the movies to see An American in Paris or Chicago, lined up for tickets to West Side Story or Rent, or crowded around their TVs to watch Cinderella or High School Musical can finally turn to a single book for details about them all. For the first time, this popular subject has an engaging and authoritative book as thrilling as the performances themselves. With more than two thousand entries, this illustrated guide offers a wealth of information on musicals, performers, composers, lyricists, producers, choreographers, and much more. Biographical entries range from early stars Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Mary Martin, and Mae West to contemporary show-stoppers Nathan Lane, Savion Glover, and Kristin Chenoweth, while composers Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, and Andrew Lloyd Webber all have articles, and the choreography of Bob Fosse, Tommy Tune, and Debbie Allen receives due examination. The plays and films covered range from modern hits like Mamma Mia! and Moulin Rouge! to timeless classics such as Yankee Doodle Dandy and Show Boat. Also, numerous musicals written specifically for television appear throughout, and many entries follow a work-Babes in Toyland for example-as it moves across genres, from stage, to film, to television. The Companion also includes cross references, a comprehensive listing of recommended recordings and further reading, a useful chronology of all the musicals described in the book, plus a complete index of Tony Award and Academy Award winners. Whether you are curious about Singin' in the Rain or Spamalot, or simply adore The Wizard of Oz or Grease, this well-researched and entertaining resource is the first place to turn for reliable information on virtually every aspect of the American musical.

Book The Complete Book of 1900s Broadway Musicals

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Broadway musicals of the 1900s saw the emergence of George M. Cohan and his quintessentially American musical comedies which featured contemporary American stories, ragtime-flavored songs, and a tongue-in-cheek approach to musical comedy conventions. But when the Austrian import The Merry Widow opened in 1907, waltz-driven operettas became all the rage. In The Complete Book of 1900s Broadway Musicals, Dan Dietz surveys every single book musical that opened during the decade. Each musical has its own entry which features the following: Plot summary Cast members Creative team Song lists Opening and closing dates Number of performances Critical commentary Film adaptations, recordings, and published scripts, when applicable Numerous appendixes include a chronology of book musicals by season; chronology of revues; chronology of revivals of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas; a selected discography; filmography; published scripts; Black musicals; long and short runs; and musicals based on comic strips. The most comprehensive reference work on Broadway musicals of the 1900s, this book is an invaluable and significant resource for all scholars, historians, and fans of Broadway musicals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ratatouille meets Broadway in this charming new middle grade novel about a little mouse with big dreams. Lulu is a little girl with a very big dream: she wants to be on Broadway. She wants it more than anything in the world. As it happens, she lives in Broadway's Shubert Theatre; so achieving her dream shouldn't be too tricky, right? Wrong. Because the thing about Lulu? She's a little girl mouse. When a human girl named Jayne joins the cast of the show at the Shubert as an understudy, Lulu becomes Jayne's guide through the world of her theatre and its wonderfully kooky cast and crew. Together, Jayne and Lulu learn that sometimes dreams turn out differently than we imagined; sometimes they come with terms and conditions (aka the company mean girl, Amanda). But sometimes, just when we've given up all hope, bigger and better dreams than we'd ever thought could come true, do.

Book Sistuhs in the Struggle

Download or read book Sistuhs in the Struggle written by La Donna Forsgren and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outstanding Academic Title, CHOICE The first oral history to fully explore the contributions of black women intellectuals to the Black Arts Movement, Sistuhs in the Struggle reclaims a vital yet under-researched chapter in African American, women’s, and theater history. This groundbreaking study documents how black women theater artists and activists—many of whom worked behind the scenes as directors, designers, producers, stage managers, and artistic directors—disseminated the black aesthetic and emboldened their communities. Drawing on nearly thirty original interviews with well-known artists such as Ntozake Shange and Sonia Sanchez as well as less-studied figures including distinguished lighting designer Shirley Prendergast, dancer and choreographer Halifu Osumare, and three-time Tony-nominated writer and composer Micki Grant, La Donna L. Forsgren centers black women’s cultural work as a crucial component of civil rights and black power activism. Sistuhs in the Struggle is an essential collection for theater scholars, historians, and students interested in learning how black women’s art and activism both advanced and critiqued the ethos of the Black Arts and Black Power movements.
