Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two verses about Moses in the Bible have been the subject of debate since the first century. In Exodus 33:20, God tells Moses that no one can see God and live, but Numbers 12:8 says that Moses sees the form of the Lord. How does one reconcile these two opposing statements? Did Moses see God, and who gets to decide? The Christian Moses investigates how ancient Christians from the New Testament to Augustine of Hippo resolved questions of who can see God, how one can see God, and what precisely one sees. Jaeda Calaway explains that the decision about whether and how Moses saw God was not a neutral exercise for an early Christian. Rather, it established the interpreter's authority to determine what was possible in divine-human relations and set the parameters for the nature of humanity. As a result, Calaway argues, interpretations of Moses' visions became a means for Jews and Christians to jockey for power, allowing them to justify particular social arrangements, relations, and identities, to assert the limits of humans in the face of divinity, and to create an Other. Seeing early Christians with new eyes, The Christian Moses reassesses how debates on Moses' visions from the first through the fifth centuries were, in reality, debates on the boundaries of humanity.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Moses Christ: Or the Plan of the World's Salvation, Illustrated by Bible Allegories This book first came into existence in response to the expressed wish of many readers of The World's Hope. In issuing a Revised Edition, I have gracefully to acknowledge the interest manifested in the little work, as evidenced by its comparatively rapid circulation, the general tone of the comments it has called out even from those not accepting all its teaching, by the earnest call of many for a new edition, and by their willingness to help. It evidently has been, as was hoped, a means of spiritual blessing to many. The special design of the book is to show that the characters and histories of Moses' writings, especially of the book of Generals, are pictures or allegories of the gospel plan. It is also designed, directly or indirectly, to present the general teaching of the Bible, and to show the fullness of God's Love underlying his Purpose and Plan in the Creation and Redemption of Mankind, - that is, in bringing the Race up to His own image. Reference is sometimes made in these pages to the book, "Day Dawn, or The Gospel in Typo and Prophecy." This work may properly be regarded as a sequel to that, being a further development of "The Gospel in Type and Prophecy." Book excerpt: We take you on a journey of discovery that looks at Moses and Jesus through many facets, to develop a more complete picture of who they are and what they represent. We demonstrate that Moses of the Old Testament is an archetype or example of Jesus of the New Testament. There has been, and always will be, a strong element of faith needed when it comes to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Hebrews 11:6 states, "Without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him [KJV]." This book provides you with knowledge and ideas that introduce you to and help strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ, the author of our salvation. We want to help you understand more fully why you believe and offer you opportunities for your faith to grow deeper. We do this by studying the lives of Moses and Jesus, and discovering literal and symbolic connections between these two men of the Bible. About the Authors: Michael Beaumont is the author of 4 published books, and has a strong background in science and technology. He has been a student and teacher of the Bible for most of his life. Reverend Dr. Emmarex Okhakhu has produced dozens of research articles and books. His background includes Theology, Organizational Management, Clinical Research, and Healthcare Administration.

Book The New Testament Moses

Download or read book The New Testament Moses written by John Lierman and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2004 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is a study of the NT witness to how Jews and Jewish Christians perceived the relationship of Moses with Israel and with the Jewish people. This is a narrowly tailored study, focusing specifically on that relationship without treating Moses in the New Testament comprehensively. The study consults ancient writings and historical material to situate the NT Moses in a larger milieu of Jewish thought. It contributes both to the knowledge of ancient Judaism and the to illumination of NT religion and theology, especially Christology."
