This report describes morphologic, morphometric, meristic, and pigmentary characteristics of central mudminnow larvae and small juveniles. Study methods included collection of fish larvae in various southern Ontario locations as well as incubation and rearing of eggs and larvae in the laboratory. Early development of this fish is described and compared with that of larvae of sympatric common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and grass pickerel (Esox americanus vermiculatus). The information presented is needed in order to identify the species as well as improve knowledge of its life history and relationship with other fishes.
