Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Morice Landscape Model (MLM) uses spatially explicit simulation modelling to capture knowledge about the Morice Land & Resource Management Plan area of British Columbia, to simulate landscape change over time, and to project implications of land-use policies on timber supply, biodiversity, & habitat for species of interest in the area. After an introduction on the objectives, context, & output of the MLM, section 2 of this report describes the structure, assumptions, & functioning of the model. Linkages with species models & other analysis are presented in section 3. The final section briefly reviews base-case scenarios used in the MLM as benchmarks. Appendices include a table of data inputs, a report on the alignment of the MLM with the Morice Timber Supply Area timber supply review analysis, and model output indicator file descriptions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is part of a series of research papers that explore the biological, social, and economic aspects of British Columbia's mountain pine beetle epidemic. The main purpose of this study was to apply and refine a model methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of landscape-scale bark beetle-management activities in reducing losses to mountain pine beetle, and to analyze the potential spread of the beetle across the study area. Specifically, the goal of this project was to address the question: what would be the likely trajectory and impacts from the current beetle outbreak under a range of alternative beetle-management regimes?
