Book excerpt: Daisy Lee Monroe thought she'd brushed the dust of Lovett, Texas, off her high-heeled shoes years ago, but she's come back home only to find that little has changed. Her sister is still crazy, and her mom still has pink plastic flamingos in her front yard. And Jackson Lamott Parrish, the bad boy she'd left behind, is still so sexy it hurts. She'd like nothing better than to avoid this particular man, but she can't. Daisy has something to say to Jackson, and she's not going anywhere until he listens. Jackson learned his lesson about Daisy the hard way, and now the only word he's interested in hearing from Daisy's red lips is good-bye. But she's popping up everywhere, and he doesn't believe in coincidence. It seems the only way to keep her quiet is with his mouth, but kissing Daisy had once been his downfall. Is he strong enough to resist her now? Strong enough to watch her walk out of his life again? Is he strong enough to make her stay?

Book excerpt: All organizations consist of people. The more seamlessly they work together, the more efficient and effective they will become, thereby producing a more productive organization. I have tried to put together an eclectic collection of thoughts and practices that will enable aspiring executives, middle management, and the CEO to move toward a more positive understanding of how they can improve the inter personal skills needed to make an organization run more effectively These suggestions may seem somewhat random, but each attempts to contribute to building an organization based on trust and consideration of the needs of the individual that allows effort to be focused on productive effort rather than concern over how misbehavior may adversely affect each individual What I am trying to achieve with this book is an acceptance by managers and leaders that a failure to recognize and deal with people as individuals and deal with their idiosyncratic ways will result in sub-optimal performance of your organization. Have courage. People admire honest effort and integrity I hope that reading this book will encourage everyone to be more adventurous in dealing with others, to be more sensitive to the individual and above all, to enjoy and have some fun in whatever you undertake. This book also tries to highlight that there is very little which new knowledge is. I have included ideas of a number philosophers and writers over the centuries. In fact I would argue that too many management books focus on esoteric theories of behaviour without ever really understanding how real people react. There is no magic! Many of these ideas and suggestions may seem eccentric, difficult to undertake, or even embarrassing. Relax and go with the flow. In seeking to put many of these interpersonal skills into action, an excessive amount of dignity is a barrier!

Book God and the History of the Universe

Download or read book God and the History of the Universe written by Jarvis Streeter and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popular belief that a scientific understanding of reality is incompatible with a Christian one is simply wrong. Some Christian understandings of reality do conflict with some scientific understandings. But a thoroughly rational Christian understanding of the origin and history of the universe will be informed by the best scientific theories and the "facts" founded on them. This book weaves a narrative of the origin and history of the universe from the perspective of contemporary science with a Christian understanding of God and of God's role in the origin and history of the universe. At the center of this integrated narrative is the view that God, who is pure, unbounded Love, is Creator: the zest for life in the universe comes from God, and God is the source of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness in the universe. God is amazed and delighted at what God-and-the-world has created; God is saddened by ways creatures have fallen short of pure, unbounded Love, Truth, Beauty, and Goodness; and God's pure, unbounded Love keeps on trying to persuade all creatures toward Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

Book excerpt: It has long been a favourite tenet of mine, and there are now, I think, others who hold it, that Insanity is no exception to the rule which requires a knowledge of the normal as an indispensable preliminary to a knowledge of the abnormal. The reason why the contrary opinion has been maintained with such vigour, and the contrary practice so generally followed, has seemed to me to be the absence of any work in which normal psychological processes are dealt with from the point of view and for the purposes of the alienist. Of the many excellent works on Psychology which are at the service of the student, there is none that affords him material help in understanding the nature of those disorders of mind which it is the work of his life to study. For instance, the chief labours of the student of the disordered mind are concerned with the existence and nature of Delusion; but, as far as I know, no work on normal psychology gives him any help in settling the preliminary questions of what a delusion is; of how it differs from a normal state of mind; of its mode of origin; or of its varieties. It is true that these are not questions in normal psychology, and it is no reproach to the psychologist who deals with the normal alone that they are excluded from his purview; but it is a great disadvantage to the alienist to be left without guidance in the face of problems of such profound importance to him.
