Download or read book Montana Places written by John B. Wright and published by U of Minnesota Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explored by Lewis and Clark, fought over by Native Americans and settlers, mined for gold, copper, and coal, and eventually abandoned by the industries that made it, Montana has proven itself to be the most resilient of the nation's states. Montana Places looks at the dramatic beauty of Little Bighorn Battlefield and the Rocky Mountain Front Range, as well as the character of small towns, such as Jordan and Harlowtown, that have survived economic hardship. Today's Montana is a place where traditional religious groups like the Hutterites coexist with unorthodox organizations such as the Church Universal and Triumphant, where the descendants of miners live alongside Hollywood celebrities, and where self-proclaimed "freemen" tangle with government environmentalists over control of the land. Beginning where other travel guides leave off, Montana Places is certain to provide visitors to the west as well as armchair travelers a rich, fascinating look at today's Montana and how it came to be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of Brice Marden's draftsmanship and the catalytic role the medium of drawing plays in his larger oeuvre In 1979, Brice Marden (b. 1938) asked that his drawings be thought of "as spaces," reflecting the idea that drawing is a medium that is much more than its two physical dimensions. Looking closely at six series of drawings that span nearly the entirety of Marden's ongoing career, this luxuriously illustrated presentation features works spanning from 1975 to 2019, including the never-before-published Letters from Borobudur of 2010. In addition to rarely seen early monochrome works, three groups of 1979-80s drawings--Mirabelle Addenda, Shell, and Cold Mountain Studies--foreshadow the artist's mature linear work and highlight the process of invention and permutation that occurs as Marden thinks and draws on paper. A concise overview of Marden's drawing practice investigates the geographies and methods that inform his work, while an artist interview offers insight into how Marden uses the medium as a means of exploring the creation of spaces on drawing surfaces. Distributed for the Menil Collection Exhibition Schedule: Menil Drawing Institute, the Menil Collection, Houston (February 21-October 11, 2020)
Download or read book Montana Beer written by Ryan Newhouse and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Montana's brewing history stretches back more than 150 years to the state's days as a territory. But the art of brewing in Montana has come a long way since the frontier era. Today, nearly forty craft breweries span the Treasure State, and the quality of their output rivals the best craft beer produced anywhere in the country. Maybe it's because there's also a little piece of Montana in every glass, as the state's brewers pride themselves on using cold mountain water and locally sourced barley harvested from Montana's ample fields. From grain to glass, " Montana Beer: A Guide to Breweries in Big Sky Country" tells the story of the brewers and breweries that make the Treasure State's brew so special.

Book excerpt: Come Into Sacred Ceremony with Jay and Leonard; learn ancient rituals, ceremonies, traditions and cultures of the Blackfeet Indians offer insight for Western civilization today... and tomorrow. Book Review by Jim Carey Open Spaces: My Life with Leonard J. Mountain Chief, Blackfeet Elder from Northwest Montana By Jay North (Jay's books are available at www.GoingOrganic.com , www.OneGlobePress.com and www.JsSpiritHealing.com After reading this book Open Spaces by Jay I felt compelled to share some spiritually motivated comments. So I left science and engineering to pursue my search for Truth. In 1999 I left everything behind...In pursuit of Spirit, I've read hundreds of books, listened to dozens of lectures, and surprised myself as I evolved from religionist to theologian to philosopher. Which brings me to Jay North's book? When I was handed this book as a 200-page typed, double-spaced manuscript, I took it home expecting to breeze through it in a couple of hours. Instead, it took me two weeks to digest. I could only read a few pages at a time before I had to stop and think about the message Jay was sharing. Very few books move me that way. In my spiritual search, I was attracted to American Indian spiritual lore, but until I read this book, I'd found little documentation of the broad overview that this book gives and none so clearly and simply written. What I found in this book was an excellent summary of my last seven years of philosophical studies. I found, much to my surprise, that after all that research and study, I've finally reached the level of Spiritual Consciousness that the Blackfeet Indians achieved centuries ago. Before reading this book, I also believed that in one's search for Truth, one must trod the path through Plato, Aristotle, Aristophanes, Zarathustra, Krishna, Buddha, Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus, Francis of Assisi, Aquinas, Moore, Szekely, Redfield, Dyer, Hawkins, et. Al., in order to reach the conclusions I've reached. Instead, Jay gives us the summary in short, clear words, as given by his mentor, Chief Leonard. This is the summary and concise statements that I didn't think existed. Following are some excerpts from Open Spaces: My Life with Leonard J. Mountain Chief, Blackfeet Elder from Northwest Montana. "Just as a dieter will regain weight after they come off of the diet and resume their old eating habits, the seeker of real change must be willing to make a real lifestyle change. It is easy to be enthusiastic for a short period of time to achieve a goal, but the true test of commitment will be a change of the heart... a life of service." "... Our true purpose for being here ... is Love and the true unfoldment of the Spirit ... there is no higher purpose than to love another ... We cannot simply examine this thing; we must experience it in order to fulfill our destiny." "Spirit always looks after you." "Now is a time of paramount importance for all people to hear the message of loving each other and our world, the message of being at peace with one another and our world, and the message of finding joy in each other and in our world." Thank you, Jay North, for sharing your experiences with Chief Leonard with us. How blessed you were to have them! Every Spiritual Seeker should read this book and become enlightened by it. I find in it... Truth, the world needs to read this book. Jim Carey And thousands of others...Come Into Open Spaces; Cone Out Transformed.

This book was released on 2016-07-11 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, libraries have served as storage spaces offering access to diverse physical collections. Today, following numerous social and technological changes, libraries are retooling their services, rethinking storage and reimagining their spaces. The transformation in information technology has had an enormous impact on users’ research behaviour, which in turn demands new discovery environments. A conference of the IFLA Library Buildings and Equipment and the Acquisition and Collection Development Sections spotlighted libraries from around the world who are providing quality, adaptable and innovative library spaces and services meeting the changing needs of their users, their collections, their staff and their communities.
Download or read book Uniform Spaces and Measures written by Jan Pachl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-16 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the need for an accessible comprehensive exposition of the theory of uniform measures; the need that became more critical when recently uniform measures reemerged in new results in abstract harmonic analysis. Until now, results about uniform measures have been scattered through many papers written by a number of authors, some unpublished, written using a variety of definitions and notations. Uniform measures are certain functionals on the space of bounded uniformly continuous functions on a uniform space. They are a common generalization of several classes of measures and measure-like functionals studied in abstract and topological measure theory, probability theory, and abstract harmonic analysis. They offer a natural framework for results about topologies on spaces of measures and about the continuity of convolution of measures on topological groups and semitopological semigroups. The book is a reference for the theory of uniform measures. It includes a self-contained development of the theory with complete proofs, starting with the necessary parts of the theory of uniform spaces. It presents diverse results from many sources organized in a logical whole, and includes several new results. The book is also suitable for graduate or advanced undergraduate courses on selected topics in topology and functional analysis. The text contains a number of exercises with solution hints, and four problems with suggestions for further research.

Download or read book Charles M Russell written by Raphael James Cristy and published by UNM Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well known for his sketches, paintings, and sculptures of the Old West, Charles M. Russell (1864-1926) was also an accomplished author in the humorous genre known as "local color." Raphael Cristy sorts Russell's writings into four general categories: serious Indian stories, men encountering wildlife, cattle range characters, and nineteenth-century westerners facing twentieth-century challenges. Russell's art is often misinterpreted as mere longing for a fading open-range west, but his writings tell a different story. Cristy shows how Russell amused his peers with stories that also delivered sharp observations of Euro-American suppression of Indians and humorous treatment of wilderness and range issues plus the emergence of women and urbanization as bewildering agents of change in the modern West. "A welcome departure from the usual biographies and coffee table volumes on Russell and his art. . . . [Cristy] deals with an important, yet relatively unexplored, aspect of the career of one of the most influential interpreters of the American West."--Byron Price, Director, C. M. Russell Center for the Study of Art

Download or read book State Policies to Manage Growth and Protect Open Spaces written by Jeffrey A. Zinn and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many states have been actively addressing the closely-related issues of sprawl and loss of open space in recent years by working to manage growth and protect remaining open spaces. The mix of issues and levels of activity vary widely from state to state. Federal polices and programs have impacts on these issues, both direct and indirect, and both positive and negative. Federal policies and programs with an impact include transportation, housing, the environment, and agriculture, among others, and others have important but less direct effects, such as the federal tax code. Some federal programs provide positive assistance to states that are trying to address these issues, while others may support incompatible activities. This book identifies and compares the recent state efforts and presents some of the reasons for a resurgent interest in addressing this suite of topics in many states. It also discusses the effectiveness of these efforts where evaluations or analyses could be found.
