Book Ultrasonography of the Neck

Download or read book Ultrasonography of the Neck written by Jean-Noel Bruneton and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-11-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Owing to the anatomic complexity of the neck and the diver sity of pathologic entities affecting it, the cervical region has long been of great semiological interest. Physical examination is an easy means of evaluating the size and origin of a solitary cervical mass, yet valid interpretation can prove difficult when the normal morphology of the neck has been altered; excellent examples are patients with extensive fibrosis or scarring secondary to previous irradiation or surgery. Like wise, physical examination cannot assess the relations of a pathologic process to adjacent structures - e. g., invasion can not be distinguished from simple displacement -and it is un suitable for monitoring therapeutic efficacy, such as the re sponse of metastatic nodes to medical management. Between physical examination, which remains fundamental, and exploratory surgical procedures, which are often the only means of obtaining indispensable anatomic proof for diagno sis, lie a number of recent imaging techniques including com puted tomography and magnetic resonance imaging using surface coils that provide invaluable information for the in vestigation of cervical pathologies. Real-time ultrasonogra phy occupies a privileged position because of its noninvasive ness, rapidity, and reliability, especially when performed by a specially trained examiner.

Book Assessing Infiltration and Exfiltration on the Performance of Urban Sewer Systems

Download or read book Assessing Infiltration and Exfiltration on the Performance of Urban Sewer Systems written by Bryan Ellis and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02-10 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sewer systems constitute a very significant heritage in European cities. Their structural quality and functional efficiency are key parameters to guarantee the transfer of domestic and industrial wastewater to treatment plants without infiltration nor exfiltration. Infiltration of groundwater is particularly detrimental to treatment plant efficiency, while exfiltration of wastewater can lead to groundwater contamination. The European research project APUSS (Assessing infiltration and exfiltration on the Performance of Urban Sewer Systems) was devoted to sewer infiltration and exfiltration questions. It was structured in three main Work Areas dealing respectively with i) the development of new measurement methods based on tracer experiments and accounting for detailed uncertainty analyses, ii) the implementation of models and software tools to integrate structural and experimental data and to facilitate data display, operational management and decision-making processes and iii) the integration of economic and operational questions by means of cost estimation, economic evaluation, performance indicators and multi-criteria methods applied to investment/rehabilitation strategies. This final report describes the objectives, methods and main results for each Work Area. References to detailed methods, protocols, reports and tools are given in this final report which will be an invaluable source of information for all those concerned with the performance of urban sewer systems.

The editors then introduce the volume by detailing the literary history of the Diné people, establishing the context for the tremendous diversity of the works that follow, which includes free verse, sestinas, limericks, haiku, prose poems, creative nonfiction, mixed genres, and oral traditions reshaped into the written word. This volume combines an array of literature with illuminating interviews, biographies, and photographs of the featured Diné writers and artists. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hussein Sumaida, the son of one of Saddam Hussein's principal lieutenants, was a member of the Iraqi elite. Underlying that privilege, however, was the cruelty of Ba'th Party members who used propaganda, torture, and murder to turn Iraq into a police state. Appalled, Sumaida began to work for Israeli intelligence, but he was soon discovered and awaited the worst. Surprisingly, Saddam spared his life in an unprecedented act of loyalty to Sumaida's father and put him to work as an Iraqi spy. Thus was the author drawn even deeper into Saddam's vicious system, into the circle of fear." "Hussein Sumaida's compelling story takes the reader inside the bizarre inner workings of Iraqi society and the Iraqi intelligence service, and offers a unique firsthand look at Saddam Hussein's brutal rule. Sumaida's escape from the Ba'th dictatorship is the stuff of the best spy thrillers."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved
