Katherine Wintsch knows firsthand the self-doubt that rages inside modern moms. As founder and CEO of The Mom Complex, she has studied the passions and pain points of moms worldwide to help some of the largest brands develop innovative new products and services. As a working mom of two, she was running in an exhausting cycle of "never enough"—not strong enough, not thin enough, not patient enough, not "mom" enough. In Slay Like a Mother, you'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll discover eye-opening lessons about: THE MASK YOU'RE WEARING. The one you hide behind when you say everything is "just fine" when it's not. YOUR UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS. The goal-setting tactics you're deploying to get ahead could be what's holding you back. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STRUGGLING AND SUFFERING. Being a mother is a struggle — it always has been — but your suffering is optional. Brave, supportive, and insightful, the stories and advice in this book will encourage you to live more confidently, enjoy the present, and become your best self — as a woman, a mother, and beyond. Perfect for fans of Girl Wash Your Face and #IMomSoHard! ***As featured in The Wall Street Journal and Parade.com*** Additional Praise for Slay Like a Mother: "Wintsch's style is brisk and forthright with enough humor to make readers laugh even as she illuminates dark corners. Book From Cradle to Stage

  • Author : Virginia Hanlon Grohl
  • Publisher : Hachette UK
  • Release : 2017-04-18
  • ISBN : 1580056458
  • Pages : 283 pages

Download or read book From Cradle to Stage written by Virginia Hanlon Grohl and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by Virginia Grohl, the mother of Dave Grohl—former Nirvana drummer and current frontman for the Foo Fighters—From Cradle to Stage shares stories and exclusive photos featuring mothers of rock icons, the icons themselves, and their Behind the Music-style relationships While the Grohl family had always been musical-the family sang together on long car trips, harmonizing to Motown and David Bowie-Virginia never expected her son to become a musician, let alone a rock star. But when she saw him perform in front of thousands of screaming fans for the first time, she knew that rock stardom was meant to be for her son. And as Virginia watched her son's star rise, she often wondered about the other mothers who raised sons and daughters who became rock stars. Were they as surprised as she was about their children's fame? Did they worry about their children's livelihood and wellbeing in an industry fraught with drugs and other dangers? Did they encourage their children's passions despite the odds against success, or attempt to dissuade them from their grandiose dreams? Do they remind their kids to pack a warm coat when they go on tour? Virginia decided to seek out other rock star mothers to ask these questions, and so began a two-year odyssey in which she interviewed such women as Verna Griffin, Dr. Dre's mother; Marianne Stipe, Michael Stipe of REM's mother; Janis Winehouse, Amy Winehouse's mother; Patsy Noah, Adam Levine's mother; Donna Haim, mother of the Haim sisters; Hester Diamond, Mike D of The Beastie Boys' mother. With exclusive family photographs and a foreword by Dave Grohl, From Cradle to Stage will appeal to mothers and rock fans everywhere.

Book The Cursing Mommy s Book of Days

Download or read book The Cursing Mommy s Book of Days written by Ian Frazier and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on his widely read columns for The New Yorker, Ian Frazier's uproarious first novel, The Cursing Mommy's Book of Days, centers on a profoundly memorable character, sprung from an impressively fertile imagination. Structured as a daybook of sorts, the book follows the Cursing Mommy—beleaguered wife of Larry and mother of two boys, twelve and eight—as she tries (more or less) valiantly to offer tips on how to do various tasks around the home, only to end up on the ground, cursing, surrounded by broken glass. Her voice is somewhere between Phyllis Diller's and Sylvia Plath's: a hilariously desperate housewife with a taste for swearing and large glasses of red wine, who speaks to the frustrations of everyday life. Frazier has demonstrated an astonishing ability to operate with ease in a variety of registers: from On the Rez, an investigation into the lives of modern day Oglala Sioux written with a mix of humor, compassion, and imagination, to Dating Your Mom, a sidesplitting collection of humorous essays that imagines, among other things, how and why you might begin a romance with your mother. Here, Frazier tackles another genre with his usual grace and aplomb, as well as an extra helping of his trademark wicked wit. The Cursing Mommy's failures and weaknesses are our own—and Frazier gives them a loving, satirical spin that is uniquely his own.

Book The Light At The End Of The Covid 19 Tunnel

Download or read book The Light At The End Of The Covid 19 Tunnel written by Gwendolyn S. Corbett and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-12-23 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covid-19 was a tsunami of sudden and major disruption on a global scale. Most people around the world experienced immediate and chaotic change. People stopped moving. The earth had a chance to breathe. Early on, people indicated that "there would be life before Covid-19 and life after Covid-19." Life would NEVER be the same. The swelling and welling up caused extreme and explosive forced action for most of humanity and a reaction from earth. There was no warning really. There's been nothing quite as earth-shocking and shattering for the entire world since World War II. Most humans from World War II are no longer here to share the memories of the abrupt and permanent alteration to lives everywhere. Covid-19 served as a reminder as to how precious all of life is. When this global pandemic wave rushed over earth, the impact was of unique proportions and magnitudes. Due to advanced technology and social media, the effects of Covid-19 and the havoc it wreaked on people's emotions, actions, and lives was readily available for the entire world to witness and respond to, or not. Due to the severe measures implemented in my state, the US, and worldwide, the immediate reaction was extreme fear. Close emotional allies of fear, regardless of spiritual and/or political affiliations, were the emotions of criticism, anger, judgment, division, frustration, suspicions, blame, and hopelessness. Basic freedoms that most people around the globe were typically afforded in normal times became forbidden, taboo, shunned. In most places, hand-shaking, hugging, kissing, and close contact were not allowed. In most places, for extended periods of time, restrictions halted physical contact with those outside of one's immediate family. If you were single or an elderly person in an assisted-care facility, there was a great chance of becoming very lonely. The coronavirus basically locked many people up in what would be a prison cell. While in this "prison cell," individuals were forced to reflect on themselves and on the relationships closest to them, mostly their immediate family, whether they were ready to do this or not. Close evaluation of workplace and extended social relationships took place as well. In the state of Ohio where I reside, towards the end of March 2020, the fear of the impending "coronavirus shutdown" was palpable with the extreme measures and restrictions that would affect personal and workplace lives. As an alternative healer and a very sensitive person, I felt the closing in, the locking of the prison cell door, the extreme fear most people felt. The close allies of fear surrounded me and attempted to draw me into the current of negativity. On March 20, 2020, God gave me a message strong and clear. He said, "Gwen, to make it through this pandemic, you must remain positive and hopeful for yourself, your family, community, humanity, and earth." On March 20, 2020, right before Ohio shut down life as usual, the poems started flowing. The first one was inspired by Proverbs 11:25 NIV, "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." The poems continued to flow through May 8, 2021, two Mother's Day poems to my mom. These poems are to help heal the wounds of Covid-19. They are a gift to humanity and earth. Certain proceeds from this book will aid poor children in rural Appalachia where I grew up in Southeastern Ohio and hopefully well beyond.

Book Heartfelt The Inspirational Story of Medha Anup Jalota

Download or read book Heartfelt The Inspirational Story of Medha Anup Jalota written by Bharathi S Pradhan and published by Om Books International. This book was released on 2013 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attractive Medha Gujral and renowned filmmaker, Shekhar Kapur, ended their high-profile marriage in a us Hazari divorce court in New Delhi. Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota had two infamously unsuccessful marriages behind him. When Medha and Anup met, a series of failed relationships and a passion for music was the only common ground between them. But as man and woman, they became inseparable. The arrival of precious baby Aryaman multiplied their happiness. However, this unbridled bliss was rudely truncated when Wedha was diagnosed with a debilitating congenital heart disease in 2000. Since then the Jalotas have seen it all a chordae of her mitral valve cut by mistake in a US hospital, an emergency open-heart surgery, a lifesaving heart transplant and a hospital check-in scheduled in New York on, believe it or not, 9/11 in 2001. But, despite a decade and more of dwindling health, near-encounters with death, emotional oscillations and spiralling medical bills, Anup and Wedha celebrate every moment of their life together.
