Book They Said I Wouldn t Make It

Download or read book They Said I Wouldn t Make It written by Frederick Ronzell Best, Dr and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-03-06 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They Said I Wouldn't Make It. This is a book that needs to be read by all. It is full of everyday life situation. A book about one man's dreams and strggles to get custody of his ten siblings and reunite his family together again. This book is a pure inspiration to millions. I was always challenged by people that said that they were normal, telling me that I wouldn't make it in life because of how I was born. Not only is this book written from my heart, but it is also written through my pain and tears, triumphs and victories. It is my desire that kids that are born handicap would have the understanding that no on can make you handicap, if you chose not to be that handicap is a state of one's mind. It is my desire that the department of Social Services will remove the name 'foster' from kids. There is no such thing as a false child, all kids are real. For those that are single parents, I hope that you receive new strength. You can make it, don't give up. For the parents that have kids that were born handicap, if you want them normal, don't raise them handicap. For you that have lost your family through the system, don't give up, miracles still happen. For those of you that had been through sexual, physical, psychological, or any other abuse you can be healed. Many people's childhoods destroyed their adulthoods. For you this does not have to be so. Remember a quitter never wins, and a winner never quits. Last, those who say they can and those wh say they can not, are both correct.

Book excerpt: A former child actor searches for her true self in this novel-within-a-novel from a leader of the international feminist movement. Before she even turned fourteen, Julian Travis made enough money as a TV star to support her mother for life in an apartment in one of Manhattan’s best buildings. But now, Julian is in her midforties and things are not so glamorous or easy. Her mother is slowly dying of Parkinson’s, her marriage of twenty years is steadily disintegrating, and money is scarce. Though Julian is a famed feminist spokeswoman and published poet, when she looks into the mirror, she doesn’t recognize herself. That and the novel she is writing are giving her a terrible time. Dry Your Smile takes readers on a journey into Julian’s past—from the precarious circumstances surrounding her birth to the lies and stories her mother wove about her absent father to her childhood diary and dreams, and her subsequent escape into the arms of a revolutionary artist and a bohemian life. In the present, Julian delves into the emotional baggage imparted by her Jewish stage-mom as a means of taking off the many masks she has worn over the years, and begins writing prose through the voice of her younger self. She also searches for a new future in a lesbian love affair with Iliana, a bisexual photographer and the one person who makes Julian feel beautiful. In the end, however, perhaps what Julian needs most is to separate herself from the expectations and images of others, and truly listen to the woman she has become. A roman à clef of author and poet Robin Morgan’s own struggles with what it means to be a female writer in the late twentieth century, Dry Your Smile is an intelligent and cathartic addition to any feminist library.

Book Pigture Perfect A Wish Novel

Download or read book Pigture Perfect A Wish Novel written by Jenny Goebel and published by Scholastic Inc.. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Alpaca My Bags author Jenny Goebel comes another heartwarming tale of friendship, loyalty, and finding your voice. Twelve-year-old Grace is desperate for a puppy. All she wants is someone to love -- and to love her back. Someone who won't disappear on her like her dad did. Someone who'll make her new stepfather's house feel like home. Christmas morning, Grace springs out of bed hopeful that her dreams are about to come true. But the present that awaits her isn't soft and furry. It doesn't have padded paws. And instead of a dark, wet nose, there's a flat, pink nose instead. It's not a puppy at all -- it's a PIG. Grace tries to make the best of the situation. She names the pig Bernard and dutifully learns how to care for him. But spending time with him is nothing like being with a dog. Bernard is awful at playing fetch and walking on a leash -- in fact, he's all around terrible at doing the things Grace dreamed of doing with a pet. But when a good friend lands in the hospital, Grace discovers that Bernard might have a special talent for making sick people feel better and that his calling might be as a certified therapy animal. Grace loves the idea of visiting patients with Bernard and bringing a smile to their faces during an otherwise tough time. But can Grace convince her skeptical family to get on board? Or will she and Bernard both end up out in the cold?

Book Mama N Em

Download or read book Mama N Em written by Louis Gardner and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-06-29 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In writing these story's, I confess my older siblings inspired and convinced me the need for them to be told. The stories are centered, on the life of an extended family revealing the past as it was lived. Their past lives yet undocumented who became freedmen and formed an early base for progress towards a free society of blacks. This family spoke glowingly of their past. They surrendered themselves to the cause in World War One. They gained some resemblance of advancing freedom but more economic advancement in the Roaring twenties that followed. Progress was a struggle. World War Two brought a necessity for all people to be involved. We, Mama N 'Em's continued to struggle for progress, affected by economic conditions, the prejudices of our governing bodies, schooling opportunities or the lack there of, our race conscious leaders and ministers as well as those who opposed our progress. Here are stories of one family who endured those experiences. As the author I have attempted to relate as much of the life and times as possible and being the sixth child of a larger family the stories become more biological yet the lifetime of Mama N 'Em is kept.
