Book A Nail the Evening Hangs On

Download or read book A Nail the Evening Hangs On written by Monica Sok and published by Copper Canyon Press. This book was released on 2020-03-31 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her debut collection, Monica Sok uses poetry to reshape a family’s memory about the Khmer Rouge regime—memory that is both real and imagined—according to a child of refugees. Driven by myth-making and fables, the poems examine the inheritance of the genocide and the profound struggles of searing grief and PTSD. Though the landscape of Cambodia is always present, it is the liminal space, the in-betweenness of diaspora, in which younger generations must reconcile their history and create new rituals. A Nail the Evening Hangs On seeks to reclaim the Cambodian narrative with tenderness and an imagination that moves towards wholeness and possibility.

Book Oh Those Days Memories Through Poetry

Download or read book Oh Those Days Memories Through Poetry written by Walter A Wheat and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-23 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in his 70th year of life on God's earth, Walter A. Wheat has lots of memories to share. As a child, Walter grew up in the country and around the farms. Somewhat isolated from community activities and sports events, Walter discovered a self-passion for literature and poetry. In his mind, he imagined floating down the Mississippi River with Huckleberry Finn, riding the Purple Sage with Zane Grey, becoming a leading man in countless movie pictures, and imagining what life would be life in the far-off future. Reality then set-in. Like many men, Walter became a soldier, served meritoriously in Vietnam and learned to love. Then came Walter's working career, his years of academics in the classroom, and his retirement... but do his memories end here? Oh, Those Days! Memories Through Poetry is not a book about anything in particular. Walter A. Wheat offers an assortment of poems, including poems about love, losses, broken hearts, guardian angels and living a life of loneliness. In some poems, Walter offers discreet advice that is based upon his own recollections. Walter has experienced each and every emotion and, through his poetic creativity, has written them down in a form that is completely understandable. Do you enjoy nostalgia? Perhaps one can parallel Walter's memories and make his remembrances their own. Maybe a lesson, or two, can be attained. Regardless of your motive, Walter A. Wheat loves sharing his poetry with you.

Book Life Shaking Moments Through the Lens of Poetry

Download or read book Life Shaking Moments Through the Lens of Poetry written by Reynaldo Pareja and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-02-21 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life continuously offers everyone shaking moments. They are intense, profound, life changing. They are traumatic-exhilarating, wonderful-dreadful, uplifting-crushing, motivating-uninspiring, clarifying-questioning, hurtful-caring, malicious-magnanimous, frightening-calming, trusting-doubtful, or lovingly-hateful. Because those events hit our emotional self, it is sometimes difficult to express them clearly, unravel their significance, understand its impact, rationalize their meaningless essence. When one is having these intense emotional experiences, frequently the most eloquent way to express them is through poetry in as much as it creates a magical world of images, packed with emotions and feelings lived in those moments. Poetry can communicate them because it has language freedom, the lack of rigid sentence construction, the permission to mix images that are even contradictory, yet powerful enough to capture the inner emotional state one is going through. This book is an attempt to capture some of those life shaking moments. May the reader find in these poems some of that magical moment that might express a similar unwritten personal experience.
