Occurrence of bacterial disease in plant is the result of complex interaction between host, bacterium and environment. The mechanisms by which bacteria cause shifts in the biochemical and physiological processes required for the plant life cycle as well as the mechanisms by which hosts prevent or respond or defend against attack by bacteria are the central themes of this Research Topic.

Book Soilborne Microbial Plant Pathogens and Disease Management Volume One

Download or read book Soilborne Microbial Plant Pathogens and Disease Management Volume One written by P. Narayanasamy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soilborne microbial plant pathogens including oomycetes, fungi, bacteria and viruses cause several economically important destructive diseases and the symptoms of infection can be recognized only after the pathogen has invaded many tissues primarily vascular tissues of susceptible plants. This condition places formidable challenges in investigating different aspects of host-microbial pathogen interactions. Early detection of infection and precise identification, differentiation, and quantification of the microbial plant pathogens in plants, soil and water sources are essential requirements for development of effective tactics to reduce the incidence and spread of the diseases caused by them. As the microbial plant pathogens differ in their virulence and sensitivity to the environment and chemicals applied, it is imperative to assess the extent of variability in the concerned pathogens. This first volume of a two-volume set introduces disease-causing microorganisms including oomycetes, fungi, bacteria, and viruses found in soils. It focuses on the biology, detection, and identification of soilborne bacterial, fungal, and viral plant pathogens. This volume discusses various techniques based on biological, immunological and genetic properties of the pathogens indicating their advantages and limitations for selecting the appropriate technique to fulfill the requirements. Features: Presents techniques useful for detection, identification, quantification of microbial plant pathogens in plants, soil, and irrigation water from waterbodies. Highlights subversive activities of viruses, resulting in the breakdown of host defense systems. Discusses RNA silencing in infected plants by viruses and posttranscriptional gene silencing (PTGS) functioning as an endogenous mechanism in plants against virus infection. Presents information on methods of assessment of genetic variability and sensitivity of microbial plant pathogens to chemicals and adverse environmental conditions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The control of diseases in crops is still largely dominated by theuse of fungicides, but with the increasing incidence of fungicideresistance, plus mounting concern for the environment resultingfrom excessive agrochemical use, the search for alternative, reliable methods of disease control is gaining momentum. The purpose of this important book is to examine the developmentand exploitation (or potential for exploitation) of a range ofnon-chemical approaches to disease control, with a focus on theneed for a greater understanding of crop ecology as the basis foreffective disease control in the field. Chapters in the book, written by international experts in the subject area, includecoverage of: biological control methods host-plant resistance the exploitation of tolerance and the use of bacteriophages Carefully edited by Professor Dale Walters, widely respected forhis work in the area of crop protection, Disease Control inCrops is an essential reference book for plant pathologists, microbiologists, plant and agricultural scientists and cropprotection specialists, including those working within, andproviding consultancy to, the agrochemical industries. Libraries inall universities and research establishments where biologicalsciences and agriculture are studied and taught should have copiesof this timely publication on their shelves.

Book Antioxidants in Plant Microbe Interaction

Download or read book Antioxidants in Plant Microbe Interaction written by Harikesh Bahadur Singh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-21 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book is focused on antioxidant compounds and their biosynthesis, up-regulation, mechanism of action for selective bioactivity, targeted role and the advancement of their bioactive potential during plant-microbe interaction and other stress conditions. This book also emphasizes on the role of antioxidants in recruiting beneficial microbes in plant surroundings. Antioxidants have multiple biological roles in plants especially in the signalling pathway. These compounds are secondary metabolites produced besides the primary biosynthetic pathway and are associated with growth and development. Besides they also have special role to play during oxidative stress produced via abiotic stimulants or pathogen attack. This understanding of the biosynthesis, signaling and function of antioxidant compounds in plants during stress condition is helpful in restoring plant ecosystem productivity and improve plant responses to a wide range of stress conditions. This book is a useful compilation for researchers and academicians in botany, plant physiology, plant biochemistry and stress physiology. Also the book serves as reading material for undergraduate and graduate students of environmental sciences, agricultural sciences and other plant science courses.
