Book Atomic and Molecular Beams

Download or read book Atomic and Molecular Beams written by Cyril Bernard Lucas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-12-13 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atomic and molecular beams are employed in physics and chemistry experiments and, to a lesser extent, in the biological sciences. These beams enable atoms to be studied under collision-free conditions and allow the study of their interaction with other atoms, charged particles, radiation, and surfaces. Atomic and Molecular Beams: Production and Col

Book Molecular Beams in Physics and Chemistry

Download or read book Molecular Beams in Physics and Chemistry written by Bretislav Friedrich and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-19 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Open Access book gives a comprehensive account of both the history and current achievements of molecular beam research. In 1919, Otto Stern launched the revolutionary molecular beam technique. This technique made it possible to send atoms and molecules with well-defined momentum through vacuum and to measure with high accuracy the deflections they underwent when acted upon by transversal forces. These measurements revealed unforeseen quantum properties of nuclei, atoms, and molecules that became the basis for our current understanding of quantum matter. This volume shows that many key areas of modern physics and chemistry owe their beginnings to the seminal molecular beam work of Otto Stern and his school. Written by internationally recognized experts, the contributions in this volume will help experienced researchers and incoming graduate students alike to keep abreast of current developments in molecular beam research as well as to appreciate the history and evolution of this powerful method and the knowledge it reveals.

Book Experimental Investigation of the Scattering of a Nitrogen Aerodynamic Molecular Beam from a Solid Nitrogen Surface

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of the Scattering of a Nitrogen Aerodynamic Molecular Beam from a Solid Nitrogen Surface written by Frederick Arnold and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An aerodynamic molecular beam and phase sensitive detection system were used to investigate the spatial distributions of nitrogen molecules scattered from solid nitrogen for (1) incident beam energies of 0.44 ev (source stagnation temperature (T(o)) = 1440K) to 0.88 ev (T(o) = 2760K), (2) incident angles (with respect to surface normal) of 30 to 70 deg, and (3) a surface temperature of 23K. Highly lobular reflected distributions centered 15 deg from the surface opposite the incident beam were observed with position and shape independent of incident energy and angle. The capture coefficient decreased sharply with increasing beam energy and incident angle from normal. A limited investigation of a nitrogen-argon mixture was also undertaken. The reflected spatial distributions for the components were similar to those observed for the individual pure gases. A seeding effect in the expansion was observed to accelerate the heavier gas. Transient effects were also investigated. (Author).

Book Surface Chemistry and Catalysis

Download or read book Surface Chemistry and Catalysis written by Albert F. Carley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2001 Wyn Roberts celebrated both his 70th birthday and 50 years of working in surface science, to use the term "surface science" in its broadest meaning. This book aims to mark the anniversary with a contribution of lasting value, something more than the usual festschrift issue of a relevant journal. The book is divided into three sections: Surface Science, Model Catalysts and Catalysis, topics in which Wyn has always had interests. The authors for each chapter were chosen from some of the many eminent scientists who have worked with Wyn in various ways and are all internationally acknowledged as leaders in their field. The authors have produced authoritative reviews of their own specialties which together result in a book with an unrivalled combination of breadth and depth exploring the most recent developments in surface chemistry and catalysis.

Book Templates in Chemistry III

Download or read book Templates in Chemistry III written by Peter Broekmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-11-06 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1 intends to shed light on a selection of aspects of "template chemistry" by combining chapters from areas as different as templated solid state synthesis, metal-mediated self assembly processes, organometallic synthesis, the formation of mechanically interlocked molecules, and, last but not least, the production of inorganic materials based on organic templates such as gels. Volume 2 provides an even broader overview of and deeper insight into the template topic adding new aspects and new views.
