Book Polynomial Expansions of Analytic Functions

Download or read book Polynomial Expansions of Analytic Functions written by Ralph P.Jr. Boas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with the expansion properties, in the complex domain, of sets of polynomials which are defined by generating relations. It thus represents a synthesis of two branches of analysis which have been developing almost independently. On the one hand there has grown up a body of results dealing with the more or less formal prop erties of sets of polynomials which possess simple generating relations. Much of this material is summarized in the Bateman compendia (ERDELYI [1J, vol. III, chap. 19) and in TRUESDELL [1J. On the other hand, a problem of fundamental interest in classical analysis is to study the representability of an analytic function j(z) as a series 2::CnPn(z), where {Pn} is a prescribed sequence of functions, and the connections between the function j and the coefficients en. BIEBERBACH'S mono graph Analytisehe Fortsetzung (Ergebnisse der Mathematik, new series, no. 3) can be regarded as a study of this problem for the special choice Pn (z) = zn, and illustrates the depth and detail which such a specializa tion allows. However, the wealth of available information about other sets of polynomials has seldom been put to work in this connection (the application of generating relations to expansion of functions is not even mentioned in the Bateman compendia). At the other extreme, J. M.

Book Univalent Functions and Conformal Mapping

Download or read book Univalent Functions and Conformal Mapping written by James A. Jenkins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with the application of the method of the extremal metric to the theory of univalent functions. Apart from an introductory chapter in which a brief survey of the development of this theory is given there is therefore no attempt to follow up other methods of treatment. Nevertheless such is the power of the present method that it is possible to include the great majority of known results on univalent functions. It should be mentioned also that the discussion of the method of the extremal metric is directed toward its application to univalent functions, there being no space to present its numerous other applications, particularly to questions of quasiconformal mapping. Also it should be said that there has been no attempt to provide an exhaustive biblio graphy, reference normally being confined to those sources actually quoted in the text. The central theme of our work is the General Coefficient Theorem which contains as special cases a great many of the known results on univalent functions. In a final chapter we give also a number of appli cations of the method of symmetrization. At the time of writing of this monograph the author has been re ceiving support from the National Science Foundation for which he wishes to express his gratitude. His thanks are due also to Sister BARBARA ANN Foos for the use of notes taken at the author's lectures in Geo metric Function Theory at the University of Notre Dame in 1955-1956.

Book An Introduction to Complex Analysis

Download or read book An Introduction to Complex Analysis written by Wolfgang Tutschke and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-06-25 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like real analysis, complex analysis has generated methods indispensable to mathematics and its applications. Exploring the interactions between these two branches, this book uses the results of real analysis to lay the foundations of complex analysis and presents a unified structure of mathematical analysis as a whole. To set the groundwork and mitigate the difficulties newcomers often experience, An Introduction to Complex Analysis begins with a complete review of concepts and methods from real analysis, such as metric spaces and the Green-Gauss Integral Formula. The approach leads to brief, clear proofs of basic statements - a distinct advantage for those mainly interested in applications. Alternate approaches, such as Fichera's proof of the Goursat Theorem and Estermann's proof of the Cauchy's Integral Theorem, are also presented for comparison. Discussions include holomorphic functions, the Weierstrass Convergence Theorem, analytic continuation, isolated singularities, homotopy, Residue theory, conformal mappings, special functions and boundary value problems. More than 200 examples and 150 exercises illustrate the subject matter and make this book an ideal text for university courses on complex analysis, while the comprehensive compilation of theories and succinct proofs make this an excellent volume for reference.

Download or read book Cluster Sets written by Kiyoshi Noshiro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first systematic investigations of the theory of cluster sets of analytic functions, we are indebted to IVERSEN [1-3J and GROSS [1-3J about forty years ago. Subsequent important contributions before 1940 were made by SEIDEL [1-2J, DOOE [1-4J, CARTWRIGHT [1-3J and BEURLING [1]. The investigations of SEIDEL and BEURLING gave great impetus and interest to Japanese mathematicians; beginning about 1940 some contributions were made to the theory by KUNUGUI [1-3J, IRIE [IJ, TOKI [IJ, TUMURA [1-2J, KAMETANI [1-4J, TsuJI [4J and NOSHIRO [1-4J. Recently, many noteworthy advances have been made by BAGEMIHL, SEIDEL, COLLINGWOOD, CARTWRIGHT, HERVE, LEHTO, LOHWATER, MEIER, OHTSUKA and many other mathematicians. The main purpose of this small book is to give a systematic account on the theory of cluster sets. Chapter I is devoted to some definitions and preliminary discussions. In Chapter II, we treat extensions of classical results on cluster sets to the case of single-valued analytic functions in a general plane domain whose boundary contains a compact set of essential singularities of capacity zero; it is well-known that HALLSTROM [2J and TsuJI [7J extended independently Nevanlinna's theory of meromorphic functions to the case of a compact set of essential singUlarities of logarithmic capacity zero. Here, Ahlfors' theory of covering surfaces plays a funda mental role. Chapter III "is concerned with functions meromorphic in the unit circle.

Book Conformally Invariant Metrics and Quasiconformal Mappings

Download or read book Conformally Invariant Metrics and Quasiconformal Mappings written by Parisa Hariri and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-11 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the theory of quasiconformal and quasiregular mappings in the euclidean n-dimensional space, (where n is greater than 2). There are many ways to develop this theory as the literature shows. The authors' approach is based on the use of metrics, in particular conformally invariant metrics, which will have a key role throughout the whole book. The intended readership consists of mathematicians from beginning graduate students to researchers. The prerequisite requirements are modest: only some familiarity with basic ideas of real and complex analysis is expected.

Book Geometric Function Theory in Higher Dimension

Download or read book Geometric Function Theory in Higher Dimension written by Filippo Bracci and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book collects the most relevant outcomes from the INdAM Workshop “Geometric Function Theory in Higher Dimension” held in Cortona on September 5-9, 2016. The Workshop was mainly devoted to discussions of basic open problems in the area, and this volume follows the same line. In particular, it offers a selection of original contributions on Loewner theory in one and higher dimensions, semigroups theory, iteration theory and related topics. Written by experts in geometric function theory in one and several complex variables, it focuses on new research frontiers in this area and on challenging open problems. The book is intended for graduate students and researchers working in complex analysis, several complex variables and geometric function theory.

Book Research Problems in Function Theory

Download or read book Research Problems in Function Theory written by Walter K. Hayman and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-07 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1967 Walter K. Hayman published ‘Research Problems in Function Theory’, a list of 141 problems in seven areas of function theory. In the decades following, this list was extended to include two additional areas of complex analysis, updates on progress in solving existing problems, and over 520 research problems from mathematicians worldwide. It became known as ‘Hayman's List’. This Fiftieth Anniversary Edition contains the complete ‘Hayman's List’ for the first time in book form, along with 31 new problems by leading international mathematicians. This list has directed complex analysis research for the last half-century, and the new edition will help guide future research in the subject. The book contains up-to-date information on each problem, gathered from the international mathematics community, and where possible suggests directions for further investigation. Aimed at both early career and established researchers, this book provides the key problems and results needed to progress in the most important research questions in complex analysis, and documents the developments of the past 50 years.

Book Metaplectic Groups and Segal Algebras

Download or read book Metaplectic Groups and Segal Algebras written by Hans Reiter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes give an account of recent work in harmonic analysis dealing with the analytical foundations of A. Weil's theory of metaplectic groups. It is shown that Weil's main theorem holds for a class of functions (a certain Segal algebra) larger than that of the Schwartz-Bruhat functions considered by Weil. The theorem is derived here from some general results about this class which seems to be a rather natural one in the context of Weil's theory. No previous knowledge of the latter is assumed, however, and the theory is developed here, step by step; Further, a complete discussion of the Segal algebra concerned is given, with references to the literature. Weil's metaplectic groups are somewhat easier to investigate when the characteristic is not 2; the case of characteristic 2 presents some special features which are fully discussed. New problems that arise are indicated.

Download or read book Riemann Surfaces written by Lars Valerian Ahlfors and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of Riemann surfaces has a geometric and an analytic part. The former deals with the axiomatic definition of a Riemann surface, methods of construction, topological equivalence, and conformal mappings of one Riemann surface on another. The analytic part is concerned with the existence and properties of functions that have a special character connected with the conformal structure, for instance: subharmonic, harmonic, and analytic functions.
