Book Modern Radio Classic Reprint

Download or read book Modern Radio Classic Reprint written by Kingdon S. Tyler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Radio Studios have been designed where the quality or tone Of a pro gram may be changed by merely pressing a button. Echo chambers and echo machines have been invented that make a Voice sound as if it were coming from a cave or from the bottom Of a well. Sound effect machines can reproduce the sounds of soldiers march ing, thunder, subway trains, a man being stabbed, and hundreds Of other sounds. New types Of microphones have been developed. New master control switching facilities have been designed to handle the ever-increasing number Of programs coming from studios all over the country and by short wave radio from Europe and South America. New types of antenna systems have been invented. The studio itself, the quality Of the radio equipment, the skill of the technicians, the directing and timing, and many other things affect the production Of any program. The variety Of programs affects the design Of the studio and the radio facilities that go into it, and the type and number Of studios that a large broadcast ing company must have. If you have ever been to a radio broadcast, you probably have noticed that each actor or actress reads the lines from a script. This might leave you with the false impression that very little rehearsing is necessary to produce a radio Show. Reading the script does save the time that would be required for each actor or actress to memorize the' lines, but a great deal of time is still spent rehearsing. Some Of the actors do memorize most Of their lines, but they must always be prepared for changes which may be made in their script right up to the time they go on the air. Book RADIO FOR ALL CLASSIC REPRINT

Download or read book RADIO FOR ALL CLASSIC REPRINT written by H. Gernsback and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-04 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Radio for All IN writing the present volume the author has continually had in mind a book for the public at large, not acquainted as yet with the radio art. After having reviewed nearly all the recent books on radio that have appeared since radio took the public's fancy, the author believes that the present volume covers ground not touched upon by other writers. The keynote of the book has been simplicity in language, and simplicity in radio. This book, therefore, is not a technical volume, and wherever possible all technicalities, all mathematics, and all abstruse sub ects have been left out entirely. It will also be noted that the author has not made use of the word ether in this book; for the reason that modern scientists are no longer in sympathy with the ether theory. The vacuum tube, it will be noted, has been touched upon very lightly and only where it was absolutely necessary. The reason is that the vacuum tube is a highly tech nical sub ect, and therefore does not belong in this book. It is a science by itself. Book The Contemporary Reception of Classical Rhetoric

Download or read book The Contemporary Reception of Classical Rhetoric written by Kathleen E. Welch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Responding to the reassertion of orality in the twentieth century in the form of electronic media such as the telegraph, film, video, computers, and television, this unique volume traces the roots of classical rhetoric in the modern world. Welch begins by changing the current view of classical rhetoric by reinterpreting the existing texts into fluid language contexts -- a change that requires relinquishing the formulaic tradition, acquiring an awareness of translation issues, and constructing a classical rhetoric beginning with the Fifth Century B.C. She continues with a discussion of the adaptability of this material to new language situations, including political, cultural, and linguistic change, providing it with much of its power as well as its longevity. The book concludes that classical rhetoric can readily address any situation since it focuses not only on critical stances toward discourse that already exists, but also presents elaborate theories for the production of new discourse.

  • Author : John Mowitt
  • Publisher : Univ of California Press
  • Release : 2011-12-07

Download or read book Radio written by John Mowitt and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2011-12-07 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Intelligent, poignant, and engaging, Radio offers readings of a remediated form of radio—Mowitt’s subject matter is not really radio as a medium or the history of that medium, but rather the impact the wireless dissemination of voice across radio networks had on modern conceptions of community. This presupposes a view of radio that goes beyond narrow historical facticity and also avoids the sometimes narrowly sociological readings offered by media studies in the US. A welcome addition to the field of radio studies.” — Sven Spieker, author of The Big Archive: Art from Bureaucracy “John Mowitt's Radio: Essays in Bad Reception is an innovative study of transnational, historical dimensions of broadcast culture. Broad and deep in encompassing a century of cultural theory, the book contributes to a new understanding of radio by treating it in an original and stimulating manner for a wider audience of scholars and students in cultural studies, media studies, communication, and the history of technology. Mowitt tunes into the polyphonous lineage of radio transmissions, and the programs received go far beyond commonplaces of a mass medium of seduction and manipulation.” —Peter Krapp, author of Noise Channels: Glitch and Error in Digital Culture
