Book Engineering Combustion Essentials

Download or read book Engineering Combustion Essentials written by David S-K. Ting and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-30 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether in the Stone Age or in Greek mythology, fire has always been the essence of life. As G.G. Brown put it in 1928, “Combustion is without exaggeration the most important reaction to the human race. All human and animal existence depends upon combustion as its course of energy.” This book provides a detailed description of the elements of combustion, offering descriptive figures, illustrative quips, and analogies to facilitate understanding. It begins with some historical highlights of the understanding of combustion and technological progresses. It then discusses the thermodynamic and chemical kinetics underlying the fast chemical reactions, before expounding on the fundamental combustion wave, or flame. After this, the book moves onto the premixed turbulent flame and the spark-ignited turbulent flame, before considering the diffusion-controlled, non-premixed flame in both laminar and turbulent forms. The book concludes with explanations of wonderful natural combustion, fire, fire-retarding slime and DNA, and the amazing bombardier beetle.

Book Combustion Physics

Download or read book Combustion Physics written by Chung K. Law and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-08-23 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate-level text incorporates these advances in a comprehensive treatment of the fundamental principles of combustion physics. The presentation emphasises analytical proficiency and physical insight, with the former achieved through complete, though abbreviated, derivations at different levels of rigor, and the latter through physical interpretations of analytical solutions, experimental observations, and computational simulations. Exercises are mostly derivative in nature in order to further strengthen the student's mastery of the theory. Implications of the fundamental knowledge gained herein on practical phenomena are discussed whenever appropriate. These distinguishing features provide a solid foundation for an academic program in combustion science and engineering.

Book New Developments in Combustion Research

Download or read book New Developments in Combustion Research written by William J. Carey and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion or burning is an exothermic reaction between a substance and a gas to release heat. Combustion normally occurs in oxygen (often in the form of gaseous O2 ) to form oxides, However, combustion can also take place in other gases like chlorine. The products of such reactions usually include water (H2 O) as well as carbon monoxide (CO) or carbon dioxide (CO2 ), or both. Other by-products, such as partially reacted fuel and elemental carbon (C), may generate visible smoke and soot. This book presents leading research from around the world in this frontal field.

Book Recent Milestone and Technology Development in Sustainable Energy and Advanced Material for Applied Engineering and Industry

Download or read book Recent Milestone and Technology Development in Sustainable Energy and Advanced Material for Applied Engineering and Industry written by Ubaidillah, Ph.D. and published by Nas Media Pustaka. This book was released on 2023-01-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research applies a numerical study of topology optimization of laminate composite structures by using a Finite Element Method. In this methodology, the plies orientation is excluded from the optimization. The geometry-based optimization from frames of a MALE UAV fuselage structure is presented. The minimum strain energy with an optimization constraint of 20 percent of weight reduction is used in the objective function. Before the primary analysis, benchmark studies of topology optimization without considering orientations from previously published literature are performed. The convergence studies were taken to acquire the appropriate mesh size in the FEM technique, which utilized a four-noded shell element. The FE analysis and optimization results showed that the structural design of the newly frame composite fuselage MALE UAV meets the structural strength requirements specified in the airworthiness standard STANAG 4671.

It does not require any sample preparation, unlike conventional spectroscopic analytical techniques. Samples in the form of solids, liquids, gels, gases, plasmas, and biological materials (like teeth, leaves, or blood) can be studied with almost equal ease. This comprehensive reference introduces the topic to readers in a simple, direct, and accessible manner for easy comprehension and maximum utility. Covers even more applications of LIBS beyond the first edition, including combustion, soil physics, environment, and life sciences Includes new chapters on LIBS techniques that have emerged in the last several years, including Femtosecond LIBS and Molecular LIBS Provides inspiration for future developments in this rapidly growing field in the concluding chapter

Book excerpt: Authored by some of the most prestigious international researchers, this book contains 21 papers that address five general categories of combustion science: flame theory, heterogeneous combustion, unsteady and cellular combustion, turbulent combustion, and explosions and detonations. The book is dedicated to Yakov B. Zel'dovich, an eminent researcher known for his theoretical works on combustion and detonation, who served as the first chairman of the Scientific Council of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The first five papers give an important perspective of the developments in flame theory, and the critical role that Zel'dovich played in them. The second section examines the issues of heterogeneous combustion and the recent advances in the field. Material dealing with unsteady cellular combustion is addressed in the third section, and the fourth investigates turbulent combustion. The final section treats the subjects of detonations and explosions.
