The 31 full papers and 15 short papers presented were carefully reviewed, selected, and revised for inclusion in the book. The papers presented deal with the interdisciplinary topic of modeling and using context from various points of view, ranging through cognitive science, formal logic, artifical intelligence, computational intelligence, philosophical and psychological aspects, and information processing. Highly general philosophical and theoretical issues are complemented by specific applications in various fields.

Book Models of the Visual System

    Book Details:
  • Author : George K. Hung
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 1475758650
  • Pages : 777 pages

Download or read book Models of the Visual System written by George K. Hung and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 777 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the best vision scientists in the world in their respective fields have contributed to chapters in this book. They have expertise in a wide variety of fields, including bioengineering, basic and clinical visual science, medicine, neurophysiology, optometry, and psychology. Their combined efforts have resulted in a high quality book that covers modeling and quantitative analysis of optical, neurosensory, oculomotor, perceptual and clinical systems. It includes only those techniques and models that have such fundamentally strong physiological, control system, and perceptual bases that they will serve as foundations for models and analysis techniques in the future. The book is aimed first towards seniors and beginning graduate students in biomedical engineering, neurophysiology, optometry, and psychology, who will gain a broad understanding of quantitative analysis of the visual system. In addition, it has sufficient depth in each area to be useful as an updated reference and tutorial for graduate and post-doctoral students, as well as general vision scientists.

Book The Skeffington Perspective of the Behavioral Model of Optometric Data Analysis and Vision Care

Download or read book The Skeffington Perspective of the Behavioral Model of Optometric Data Analysis and Vision Care written by Earl P. Schmitt O.D Ed.D D.O.S. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-04-28 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No systematic analysis of optometric clinical data can be undertaken unless the findings are referred to a logical model that allows comparisons to be made of interaction characteristics that exist between the accommodative and convergence mechanisms inherent to the human vision system. Concomitantly, many of the concepts applied during any such analytical process are based on hypothetical constructs. This text re-examines the elements originally proposed by Dr. A.M. Skeffington, and offers a revised insight into how performance changes may occur as individual visual behavior adapts to the impact of environmental demands. In-depth research and extensive references attempt to substantiate the Skeffington paradigm of professional vision analysis. Long-standing challenges to the optometric profession are identified. As presented, the contents are appropriate for use as a classroom text, for reference, and for identifying areas for clinical research.

Book Politics Planning and Homes in a World City

Download or read book Politics Planning and Homes in a World City written by Duncan Bowie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-02-25 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an insightful study of spatial planning and housing strategy in London, focusing on the period 2000-2008 and the Mayoralty of Ken Livingstone. Examining the theory and practice of spatial planning at a metropolitan level, Bowie examines the relationships between: planning, the residential development market and affordable housing environmental, economic and equity objectives national, regional and local planning agencies and their policies. It places Livingstone’s Mayoralty within its historical context and looks forward to the different challenges faced by Livingstone’s successors in a radically changed political and economic climate. Clear and engaging, this critical analysis provides a valuable resource for academics and their students as well as planning, housing and development professionals. It is essential reading for anyone interested in politics and social change in a leading ‘world city’ and provides a base for parallel studies of other major metropolitan regions.

  • Author : Penny Bernstock
  • Publisher : Routledge

Download or read book Olympic Housing written by Penny Bernstock and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the distinguishing characteristics of London's bid to host the games was its commitment to legacy where it was argued that ’the legacy would lead to the regeneration of an entire community for the direct benefit of everyone who lives there’. This book adopts a critical approach to the concept of 'legacy' focussing specifically on housing. It argues there will be a range of both intended and unintended legacy outcomes and an urgent need for revised strategies if those original objectives are to be achieved. The concept of legacy is explored in a number of ways, including an overview of housing legacy in other host cities; the experiences and perspectives of those residents decanted to make way for the Olympic Park; a critical review of legacy plans; a detailed analysis of the conversion of the Athletes’ Village into housing; and a case study of the emerging area ’Stratford High Street’, which explores issues of social class change and the limitation of planning policies. Whilst taking housing as its focus, this book adopts a sociological perspective by exploring the likelihood of social class change in order to draw conclusions about 'gentrification', 'social polarisation' and the extent to which 'social inclusion' is reflected in housing legacies.
