Book excerpt: We are pleased to present the proceedings of Performance TOOLS 2003, the 13th International Conference on Modelling Techniques and Tools for Computer Performance Evaluation. The series of TOOLS conferences has provided a forum for our community of performance engineers with all their diverse interests. TOOLS 2003, held in Urbana, Illinois during September 2–5, 2003, was the most recent meeting of the series, which in the past has been held in the following cities: 1984 Paris 1992 Edinburgh 2000 Chicago 1985 Sophia-Antipolis 1994 Vienna 2002 London 1987 Paris 1995 Heidelberg 2003 Urbana 1988 Palma 1997 Saint Malo 1991 Turin 1998 Palma TheproceedingsoftheTOOLSconferenceshavebeenpublishedbySpringer- Verlag in its LNCS series since 1994. TOOLS2003wasthesecondconferenceintheseriestobeheldinthestateof Illinois, USA. It was one of four component conferences that met together under the umbrella of the 2003 Illinois Multiconference on Measurement, Modelling, and Evaluation of Computer-Communication Systems. Other conferences held inconjunctionwithTOOLS2003werethe10thInternationalWorkshoponPetri Nets and Performance Models (PNPM 2003), the International Conference on the Numerical Solution of Markov Chains (NSMC 2003), and the 6th Inter- tional Workshop on Performability Modeling of Computer and Communication Systems (PMCCS-6). The format allowed for a number of joint components in the programs: the three keynote speakers, the tool demonstrations, the tutorials, and the social events were all shared by the participants of the multiconference. Moreover, the PNPM, TOOLS, and NSMC tracks of the multiconference ran concurrently, so that attendees could choose to attend whichever sessions of those component conferences they wished.

Book Quantitative Models for Performance Evaluation and Benchmarking

Download or read book Quantitative Models for Performance Evaluation and Benchmarking written by Joe Zhu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author is one of the prominent researchers in the field of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a powerful data analysis tool that can be used in performance evaluation and benchmarking. This book is based upon the author’s years of research and teaching experiences. It is difficult to evaluate an organization’s performance when multiple performance metrics are present. The difficulties are further enhanced when the relationships among the performance metrics are complex and involve unknown tradeoffs. This book introduces Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as a multiple-measure performance evaluation and benchmarking tool. The focus of performance evaluation and benchmarking is shifted from characterizing performance in terms of single measures to evaluating performance as a multidimensional systems perspective. Conventional and new DEA approaches are presented and discussed using Excel spreadsheets — one of the most effective ways to analyze and evaluate decision alternatives. The user can easily develop and customize new DEA models based upon these spreadsheets. DEA models and approaches are presented to deal with performance evaluation problems in a variety of contexts. For example, a context-dependent DEA measures the relative attractiveness of similar operations/processes/products. Sensitivity analysis techniques can be easily applied, and used to identify critical performance measures. Two-stage network efficiency models can be utilized to study performance of supply chain. DEA benchmarking models extend DEA’s ability in performance evaluation. Various cross efficiency approaches are presented to provide peer evaluation scores. This book also provides an easy-to-use DEA software — DEAFrontier. This DEAFrontier is an Add-In for Microsoft® Excel and provides a custom menu of DEA approaches. This version of DEAFrontier is for use with Excel 97-2013 under Windows and can solve up to 50 DMUs, subject to the capacity of Excel Solver. It is an extremely powerful tool that can assist decision-makers in benchmarking and analyzing complex operational performance issues in manufacturing organizations as well as evaluating processes in banking, retail, franchising, health care, public services and many other industries.

Book Modelling Techniques and Performance Evaluation

Download or read book Modelling Techniques and Performance Evaluation written by Serge Fdida and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1987 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. Today's computer systems handle more functions for more users and have become very complex. As users become increasingly reliant, the demand for good performance grows, creating a need for better modelling techniques and tools in the performance area. In the last few years, significant advances and contributions have been made; this workshop was a meeting point where researchers and practitioners could voice their concerns, and where recent R&D issues in both theoretical and practical aspects of systems performance evaluation could be presented. The workshop mainly covered modelling and measurement techniques and packages, as well as the use of AI tools in this area. 100 people from different fields in 12 different countries exchanged news on advances, contributions and future trends. Several modelling techniques were presented in a general way or in order to provide the analysis of specific problems or applications in the field of compute
