Book Roadmap to Restructuring

Download or read book Roadmap to Restructuring written by David T. Conley and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed as a guide for practitioners, this book draws on over 600 sources to discuss school restructuring definitions, trends, and issues; achievements of a few select schools; and implementation techniques and strategies. Two overarching, indirectly stated issues pervading the reconceptualization of schooling are multiculturalism and a caring school staff. The book is organized into four parts. Part 1, Rationale and Context, presents a historical context for restructuring and a summary of the current motivations for, and implications of, educational restructuring. Part 2, Changing Roles and Responsibilities, examines the evolution of new roles for essentially all the groups that participate in public education. Part 3, Dimensions of Restructuring, explores the concepts of incremental and discontinuous change and extensively discusses current school restructuring activities along 12 dimensions: learner outcomes, curriculum, instruction, assessment, learning environment, technology, school-community relations, time schedules, governance, teacher leadership, personnel definitions and roles, and working relationships. Part 4, Process of Restructuring, captures the lessons being learned about the restructuring process and presents examples of strategies and techniques. (Contains over 600 references.) (MLH)

Book Restructuring the Manufacturing Process Applying the Matrix Method

Download or read book Restructuring the Manufacturing Process Applying the Matrix Method written by Gideon Halevi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-12-21 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consider the possibility of a manufacturing method that can do all this: reduce lead time increase product diversity produce higher-quality products allow more competitive pricing ensure customer satisfaction reach dominance in the global marketplace Those are all part of the upside potential for the Matrix Manufacturing Method. Its promising premise: apply beneficial technology to all stages of the manufacturing process, leading to increased efficiency. Actually, the Matrix Manufacturing Method is far more than a mere promise; it's already become standard and successful practice at many companies. Details of the Matrix Manufacturing Method now make their first-ever appearance in Restructuring the Manufacturing Process: Applying the Matrix Method, describing this important new philosophy of manufacturing management-and practical ways to bring its concepts into reality. A pioneer of the Matrix Manufacturing Method, Halevi presents comprehensive and convincing details behind its rationale and practice. The method's foundation: incorporate engineering stages (technology) during production management stages, allowing qualified professionals to make crucial decisions at execution time, through the use of accurate and flexible engineering data. As the book's case histories demonstrate, companies that have taken those measures now benefit from a "new degree of freedom" in the manufacturing cycle-and its myriad advantages. Numerous theories may have been proposed to create technology-driven manufacturing processes: what makes the Matrix Manufacturing Theory most valuable is its improvements of all disciplines, aspects, and activities related to product production. Gain that all-inclusive competitive edge with Restructuring the Manufacturing Process: Applying the Matrix Method.

Book Reorganizing the Factory

Download or read book Reorganizing the Factory written by Nancy Hyer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-10-22 with total page 788 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2003 Shingo Prize! Reorganizing work processes into cells has helped many organizations streamline operations, shorten lead times, increase quality, and lower costs. Cellular manufacturing is a powerful concept that is simple to understand; however, its ultimate success depends on deciding where cells fit into your organization, and then applying the know-how to design, implement and operate them. Reorganizing the Factory presents a thoroughly researched and comprehensive "life cycle" approach to competing through cellular work organizations. It takes you from the basic cell concept and its benefits through the process of justifying, designing, implementing, operating, and improving this new type of work organization in offices and on the factory floor. The book discusses many important technical dimensions, such as factory analysis, cell design, planning and control systems, and principles for lead time and inventory reduction. However, unique to the literature, it also covers in depth the numerous managerial issues that accompany organizing work into cells. In most implementations, performance measurement, compensation, education and training, employee involvement, and change management are critically important. These issues are often overlooked in the planning process, yet they can occupy more of the implementation time than do the technical aspects of cells. Includes: Why do cells improve lead time, quality, and cost? Planning for cell implementation Justifying the move to cells, strategically and economically Designing efficient manufacturing and office cells Selecting and training cell employees Compensation system for cell employees Performance and cost measurement Planning and control of materials and capacity Managing the change to cells Problems in designing, implementing, and operating cells Improving and adapting existing cells Structured frameworks and checklists to help analysis and decision-making Numerous examples of cells in various industries

Book Restructuring Stabilizing and Modernizing the New Russia

Download or read book Restructuring Stabilizing and Modernizing the New Russia written by Paul J.J. Welfens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Russia has embarked upon a difficult process of systemic transformation and economic opening up. While the initial strong GDP decline seemed to have ended in 1997, the real development was facing even more difficult problems as output declined sharply after the Ruble and banking crisis of August 1998: inflation started to increase again, exports and imports were falling, capital flight increasing and unemployment rising. There is broad disappointment in Russia regarding the transformation failure in 1998 since so many people had hoped that the end of the Soviet command economy would bring democracy, prosperity and international integration. While Poland has been able to double per capita income in the 1990s it has fallen by 50% in Russia and this despite considerable IMF involvement and some (modest) support from other international organizations. What were the reasons for transformation failure in the 1990s? What are the ingredients for long term sustainable transformation? What are the internal and international requirements to avoid a second - possibly tragic - failure of transformation in Russia? An international group of researchers has focussed on these problems during a two-year research project financed by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation. A series of papers were presented at workshops in Potsdam, Bonn and Moscow in 1999 where this book is devoted to four important issues: the Russian transformation crisis, the topic of restructuring, the need for stabilizing Russia and the requirements for modernizing Russia.

Book Impact of State Restructuring on Indonesia s Regional Economic Convergence

Download or read book Impact of State Restructuring on Indonesia s Regional Economic Convergence written by Adiwan Fahlan Aritenang and published by Flipside Digital Content Company Inc.. This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creation of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) in 1992 and decentralization in 1999 mark the state restructuring in Indonesia. This book analyses the impact of state restructuring on regional economic development in Indonesia between 1993 and 2010. Regional economic analysis shows persistent and severe regional disparities throughout the period. Particularly, econometrics study found that decentralization has accelerated regional disparities whilst the AFTA effect is insignificant on regional economic growth. Furthermore, historical institutionalism analysis on two cities - the manufacturing industry in Batam and the creative economy in Bandung - shows that past and embedded local institutions provide the capacity to adapt and create new development paths. The book suggests the importance of local-specific policies that embrace local knowledge and institutions to develop regional specialization and competitive advantage. This book fills the gap in Indonesian literature that lacks studies on the integrated impact of decentralization and trade liberalization, both economically and politically.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the feasible breakthrough of emerging economy enterprises in participating the international division of labor led by developed countries and gradually standing at the top end(s) of the value chain based on a deep understanding of the practice and upgrading opportunities of Chinese enterprises. On the basis of re-understanding the theory of global value chains, this book puts forward and expounds the concept of restructuring the global value chain. This book analyzes the background, motivations, paths and effects of enterprises in emerging economies to reconstruct the global value chain and develops a theoretical system to explore the deep-seated logic behind enterprise upgrading. This book concludes that the transformation and upgrading of Chinese enterprises are the most critical initiatives in seeking a new balance in the world economy. This book involves dozens of manufacturing enterprise cases in Chinese mainland and Taiwan. It is of great value to the research and policy study of enterprise upgrading and the participation in global competition.

Book Enterprise Restructuring and the Role of Managers in Russia

Download or read book Enterprise Restructuring and the Role of Managers in Russia written by Gary Krueger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-07-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the story of what might have been considered an unlikely source of dynamic change in Russia - formerly state-owned manufacturing enterprises and their managers. Based on interviews conducted over a six-year span with managers at 47 manufacturing, light industry, consumer durable, and food processing firms in four Russian cities, the study documents the real world challenge of turning hidebound, often dysfunctional manufacturing operations into thriving companies. With analytical rigor and theoretical creativity, this work will dispel some common misconceptions about the Russian economy and make a contribution to the literature about management, company strategies, and corporate governance.

Book Capitalist Restructuring and the Pacific Rim

Download or read book Capitalist Restructuring and the Pacific Rim written by Ravi Palat and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-07-31 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book situates the evolution of capitalist economies along Asia's Pacific Rim after the Second World War within broader global, political and economic changes. Specifically, it charts their growth at the interface of periodic crises and successive waves of restructuring, and links changes in the world economy to shifts in regional dynamics in east and southeast Asia. It suggests that while the expansion of Japanese corporate networks was crucial to the emergence of the region as a low-cost exporter to the world, the reintegration of China into the world market will free the region from its dependence on the US as a market of last resort.

Book Restructuring Representation

Download or read book Restructuring Representation written by Jeremy Waddington and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the industrialised world trade unionists are reforming their organisations as part of a strategy to adjust to new labour market, economic and political circumstances. This volume examines the role of merger activity in this process of reform. The book identifies the pattern of merger activity, the factors that promote its development and its impact on union structure and governance. Most merger activity is shown to originate in some adverse environmental change, such as membership decline. Furthermore, there is little evidence to suggest that mergers have improved union performance in the recruitment, retention and organisation of members, although, in some cases, the reform of systems of membership participation has been facilitated. The shift away from industrial unions has been accelerated by merger involvement, which has also brought into question the role of confederations where the number of affiliated unions has declined markedly. The book comprises two sections. The first section examines the merger process in ten countries (Australia, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, UK and US). The second section comprises three 'horizontal' chapters in which authors of the national chapters develop themes that emerge from the national chapters in comparative perspective.
