Book Model aided Diagnosis of Mechanical Systems

Download or read book Model aided Diagnosis of Mechanical Systems written by H. G. Natke and published by Springer. This book was released on 1997 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is concerned with the diagnosis of the damage and faults of mechanical systems in the diverse fields of engineering. It takes into consideration the various stages of the life cycle of a system from a diagnosis-oriented point of view and from a methodological one. Analysis, testing and diagnosis is linked with all stages of a system's life, with an enormous effect on costs, reliability and safety. The classical methods of diagnosis based on signature analysis are reviewed in the introduction. The main subject is the model-supported diagnosis using system identification methods for adjusting mathematical models to various states of the system under investigation at pre-given life times. These adjusted models perform the best knowledge base available about the system which serve the purposes of fault detection, localization, and the cause-finding of faults and their assessment, predictions due to future forcings and trend predictions. The diagnostic decision-making is based on validated models. The assessment to be made with the resulting consequences also is discussed.

Book Fault Detection and Diagnosis of Electro mechanical Systems Based on Real time Data

Download or read book Fault Detection and Diagnosis of Electro mechanical Systems Based on Real time Data written by Yue Chao and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of our research is to build a computer-based system that utilized real-time operating data to detect and diagnose malfunction in electro-mechanical systems. The methodology is to use assessment chart, which uses small number of data and control chart, to evaluate the performance of mechanical system. This method can be applied to a subsystem or be extended to the entire electro-mechanical systems. In order to achieve our research goal, our system is implemented in the following steps: 1) build a model which can characterize a mechanical system, 2) review the expert experience and control strategy of such a mechanical system to establish the assessment chart based FDD system, 3) monitor the actual status of the system in real time to assure the system is operating efficiently, and 4) make decision on the collected real-time data to detect any abnormality in the performance of the target system. This approach is applied to a real building HVAC system with genuine data. The result of our experiment shows that our strategy successfully detects most of faults introduced in the building system.

Book excerpt: Structural health monitoring is a powerful tool across civil, mechanical, automotive, and aerospace engineering, allowing the assessment and measurement of physical parameters in real time. Processing changes in the vibration signals of a dynamic system can detect, locate, and quantify any damage existing in the system. This book presents a comprehensive state‐of‐the‐art review of the applications in time, frequency, and time‐frequency domains of signal‐processing techniques for damage perception, localization, and quantification in various structural systems. Experimental investigations are illustrated, including the development of a set of damage indices based on the signal features extracted through various signal‐processing techniques to evaluate sensitivity in damage identification. Chapters summarize the application of the Hilbert–Huang transform based on three decomposition methods such as empirical mode decomposition, ensemble empirical mode decomposition, and complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise. Also, the chapters assess the performance and sensitivity of different approaches, including multiple signal classification and empirical wavelet transform techniques in damage detection and quantification. Artificial neural networks for automated damage identification are introduced. Book Incorporating Uncertainty Into Diagnostic Analysis of Mechanical Systems

Download or read book Incorporating Uncertainty Into Diagnostic Analysis of Mechanical Systems written by Gregory M. Mocko and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing systems during the conceptual stages of design for characteristics essential to the ease of fault diagnosis is important in today's mechanical systems because consumers and manufacturers are becoming increasingly concerned with cost incurred over the life cycle of the system. The increase in complexity of modem mechanical systems can often lead to systems that are difficult to diagnose, and therefore require a great deal of time and money to return the system to working condition. Mechanical systems optimized in the area of diagnosability can lead to a reduction of life cycle costs for both consumers and manufacturers and increase the useable life of the system. A methodology for completing diagnostic analysis of mechanical systems is presented. First, a diagnostic model, based on components and system indications, is constructed. Bayes formula is used in conjunction with information extracted from the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), component reliability, and prior system knowledge to construct the diagnostic model. The diagnostic model, when presented in matrix form, is denoted as the Component-Indication Joint Probability Matrix. The Component-Indication Joint Probability Matrix presents the joint probabilities of all possible mutually exclusive diagnostic events in the system. Next, methods are developed to mathematically manipulate the Component-Indication Joint Probability Matrix into two matrices, (1) the Replacement Matrix and (2) the Replacement Probability Matrix. These matrices are used to compute a set of diagnosability metrics. The metrics are useful for comparing alternative designs and addressing diagnostic problems to the system, component and indication level, during the conceptual stages of design. Additionally, the metrics can be used to predict cost associated with fault isolation over the life cycle of the system. The methodology is applied to a hypothetical example problem for illustration, and applied to a physical system, an icemaker, for validation.
