Book Railways and Sustainable Low Carbon Mobility in China

Download or read book Railways and Sustainable Low Carbon Mobility in China written by Linna Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-17 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the role of railways in developing sustainable low-carbon mobility by analyzing the intermodal relationship between railways and other transport modes. Focusing on geographical and governance perspectives, and taking China as a case study, it analyzes the competition and cooperation between and integration of railways and other transport modes, in order to provide guidance on future sustainable transport development. Firstly, the book examines the contribution of railways to low carbon emissions in China over recent decades by estimating the carbon dioxide emissions from various transport modes in China at national and regional levels using decomposition analysis. It then discusses the current competition and cooperation between railways and other transport modes, as well as their integration and the impact of their relationship on climate change. It also highlights how the competition between railways and other transport modes may change the passenger flows between city pairs and so alter transport carbon emissions and examines how cooperation and integration could improve passengers’ travel experience while at the same time reducing carbon emissions. Lastly, it addresses the implications for future sustainable transport development based on institutional analysis. Presenting multidisciplinary, sustainable transport research on the role of railways in reducing carbon emissions, and also offering policy recommendations for developing low-carbon, integrated transport in the future, this book is a valuable reference resource for graduates, researchers, and government managers responsible for transport development, urban planning and environmental policy.

Book Sustainable Railway Futures

Download or read book Sustainable Railway Futures written by Becky P.Y. Loo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revitalizing railways as a major sustainable transport mode in modern societies faces many issues and challenges. This in-depth overview places the importance of railways in the wider context of comprehensive sustainability, which encompasses sustainable development, social and economic equity and community livability. Some scholars have described the 21st century as a period of renaissance for railways and suggest this transport mode can fulfil people's desire for high mobility with low negative environmental, social, economic and financial impacts. In light of these new expectations for railways, in both passenger and freight transport worldwide, this book offers the latest research insights on the renewed interest about railway expansions and their wide-ranging environmental, socio-economic and even political implications.

Book Intelligent Solutions for Cities and Mobility of the Future

Download or read book Intelligent Solutions for Cities and Mobility of the Future written by Grzegorz Sierpiński and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-02 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an abundance of numerical analyses based on significant data sets, illustrating the close affiliation between intelligent solutions and future mobility. Which of the prediction models should be applied to improve road safety? How to solve selected issues with assessment of urban roundabouts? What is the future of shared mobility services? How to use spatial data in planning processes related to electromobility implementation? What is the right approach to the problem of road and rail traffic processes? This book provides you with answers to these and many other questions. With regard to the research results discussed and the selected solutions applied, the book primarily addresses the needs of three target groups: • Scientists and researchers (ITS field) • Local authorities (responsible for the transport systems at the urban and regional level) • Representatives of business (traffic strategy management) and industry (manufacturers of ITS components). The book gathers selected papers presented at the 17th “Transport Systems. Theory and Practice” Scientific and Technical Conference organised by the Department of Transport Systems, Traffic Engineering and Logistics at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. The conference was held on 20–21 September 2021 in Katowice (Poland). More details are available at www.TSTP.polsl.pl
