Download or read book Circulating Molecular Biomarkers Next Generation Tools for Monitoring Minimal Residual Disease in Cancer Patients written by Zohreh Amoozgar and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-08-16 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional cancer diagnosis relies on tissue biopsy, blood testing as well as medical imaging. By the detection moment, in most cases the tumor size may reach several millimeters and the risk of distant metastasis is unavoidable. Even, following drug treatment, there is no accurate and timely way to follow up the success of treatment. New reliable tumor-specific biomarkers/tools that allow non-invasive early cancer detection as well as monitoring of anti-cancer therapeutic regime is highly demanded. To tackle limitations of traditional cancer management, liquid biopsy has emerged which screen bodily fluids using ultrasensitive biosensing systems capable of simultaneous capturing and studying horizontal gene transfer (HGT) materials including circulating tumor cells (CTCs), exosomes, cell-free DNA, and apoptotic bodies. These are messengers and/or delivery systems by which tumor cells are communicating as well as transforming/sharing new phenotypes with each other resulting in drug resistance, distant metastatic outbreaks, and cancer recurrence. Acting as next-generation prognostic and therapeutic tools call for understanding the molecular mechanisms by which HGT works to tran

Download or read book Europe in the World written by Luiza Bialasiewicz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume provides an innovative contribution to the debate on contemporary European geopolitics by tracing some of the new political geographies and geographical imaginations emergent within - and made possible by - the EU's actions in the international arena. Drawing on case studies that range from the Arctic to East Africa, the nine empirical chapters provide a critical geopolitical reading of the ways in which particular places, countries, and regions are brought into the EU's orbit and the ways in which they are made to work for 'EU'rope. The analyses look at how the spaces of 'EU'ropean power and actorness are narrated and created, but also at how 'EU'rope's discursive (and material) strategies of incorporation are differently appropriated by local and regional elites, from the southern shores of the Mediterranean to Eastern Europe and the Balkans. The question of EU border management is a particularly important concern of several contributions, highlighting some of the ways in which the Union's border-work is actively (re)making the European space.

Download or read book Border Politics written by Cengiz Günay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-09 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the light of mass migration, the rise of nationalism and the resurgence of global terrorism, this timely volume brings the debate on border protection, security and control to the centre stage of international relations research. Rather than analysing borders as mere lines of territorial demarcation in a geopolitical sense, it sheds new light on their changing role in defining and negotiating identity, authority, security, and social and economic differences. Bringing together innovative and interdisciplinary perspectives, the book examines the nexus of authority, society, technology and culture, while also providing in-depth analyses of current international conflicts. Regional case studies comprise the Ukraine crisis, Nagorno-Karabakh, the emergence of new territorial entities such as ISIS, and maritime disputes in the South China Sea, as well as the contestation and re-construction of borders in the context of transnational movements. Bringing together theoretical, empirical and conceptual contributions by international scholars, this Yearbook of the Austrian Institute for International Affairs offers novel perspectives on hotly debated issues in contemporary politics, and will be of interest to researchers, graduate students and political decision makers alike.

Download or read book Frontiers of the European Union written by M. Anderson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2001-03-30 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on original research this book is a unique attempt at a general assessment of EU frontiers. Internal frontiers are losing some of their key functions but there are many responses to the new situation, as a case study of French frontiers abundantly illustrates. An examination of the EU external frontier shows that the EU is acquiring some state-like features, but the eastern frontier provides abundant evidence of the external frontier's complexity. The authors conclude that the increasing openness of national frontiers will continue, but their effective abolition, whether by European integration or through 'globalization', is improbable.

Download or read book Recent Advances in Immunology to Target Cancer Inflammation and Infections written by Jagat Kanwar and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-05-09 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immunology is the branch of biomedical sciences to study of the immune system physiology both in healthy and diseased states. Some aspects of autoimmunity draws our attention to the fact that it is not always associated with pathology. For instance, autoimmune reactions are highly useful in clearing off the excess, unwanted or aged tissues from the body. Also, generation of autoimmunity occurs after the exposure to the non-self antigen that is structurally similar to the self, aided by the stimulatory molecules like the cytokines. Thus, a narrow margin differentiates immunity from auto-immunity as already discussed. Hence, finding answers for how the physiologic immunity turns to pathologic autoimmunity always remains a question of intense interest. However, this margin could be cut down only if the physiology of the immune system is better understood. The individual chapters included in this book will cover all the possible aspects of immunology and pathologies associated with it. The authors have taken strenuous effort in elaborating the concepts that are lucid and will be of reader's interest.
Download or read book Mobilities in India written by Bhaswati Mondal and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-26 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents commuting as a new paradigm in mobility studies in the context of global south. It delves into suburban train commuting in Eastern India. The book interprets commuting not only as a means to attend work but also as a process producing kinetic event-space infused with different mobile practices, which is not determined by their locational fixity, rather can be cognized. It analyses the role of suburban train commuting in the metropolitan expansion of Kolkata, and the transformation of rural space into urban. The significant contribution of the book lies in explaining commuters’ experiencescape and the production of spatial fluidity in time capsule through commuting. It also explores the subjective reality of gendered commuting. The book uses a trans-disciplinary research design, blending quantitative and ethnographic research methods. The area selected for the empirical research is the Howrah-Bardhaman Main Railway Line (108 km), the first suburban railway line in Eastern India. Commuters originating from three adjacent districts of Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly and Howrah took part in this research. Besides the commuters, non-commuting passengers and hawkers in the train were also interviewed to understand the diverse perceptions of the process of commuting. This book may be considered as a reference book for mobility studies, transport studies, urban geography and regional planning.
