This book was released on 2018-06-16 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NASA is interested in applying mobile Internet protocol (mobile-ip) technologies to its space and aeronautics programs. In particular, mobile-ip will play a major role in the Advanced Aeronautic Transportation Technology (AATT), the Weather Information Communication (WINCOMM), and the Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS) aeronautics programs. This report presents the results of a simulation study of mobile-ip for an aeronautical network. The study was performed to determine the performance of the transmission control protocol (TCP) in a mobile-ip environment and to gain an understanding of how long delays, handoffs, and noisy channels affect mobile-ip performance. Book TCP IP Over VHF Digital Mode

Download or read book TCP IP Over VHF Digital Mode written by Anupam Dhanuka and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Very High Frequency (VHF) Digital Link Mode 3 is the next step in an effort by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to provide a data link between aircraft and ground controllers to support applications such as Air Traffic Control, weather updates and surveillance. It provides an acknowledged connectionless data link over a TDMA based medium access control mechanism. The benefits of such air/ground data subnetworks can be maximized by interconnecting them with other ground subnetworks. To achieve this seamless interconnection a concept called Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) based on the ISO Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) has been proposed by ICAO. However, in recent years there has been a concern over the need for developing ATN when TCP/IP is already commercially available to achieve all the goals of such an interconnection. In this project VDL Mode 3 simulation models were developed in OPNET (Optmized Network Engineering Tools). Using these models, simulations were conducted to study the performance of the proposed protocols in terms of end to end message transfer delay. A comparison is also done with similar models developed by MITRE Corp and it was observed that models developed herein exhibit better performance. The reasons for this improvement are discussed in this report. Also in this project, it has been shown that TCP/IP can easily be interfaced with VDL Mode 3 and that Mobile IP can satisfactorily be used to handle aircraft mobility. Simulations have been conducted to study the delay experienced in performing Mobile IP management functions followed a TCP connection setup when an aircraft enters a service volume under a ground station's control. The results of these simulations were compared with the results of similar simulations done by MITRE for ATN over VDL Mode 3. Performance of the system using TCP/IP was found to be superior to the reported performance of ATN, the difference largely due to the differences in the underlying VDL Mode 3 models."

Book SIMULATION BASED INVESTIGATION OF MOBILE IP IMPROVEMENTS

Download or read book SIMULATION BASED INVESTIGATION OF MOBILE IP IMPROVEMENTS written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, performances of some Mobile IP handoff schemes have been compared. The comparison has been based on simulation results. Simulation study has been carried out with a MIP model developed using OMNeT++ and available model frameworks. The literature on Mobile IP and several improvements including handoff management schemes have been surveyed. A MIP model has been constructed and then validated with the help of some scenarios in the literature, especially the one found in [7]. The model has been then used to investigate performances of FMIP. The study also included performance of FMIP under local traffic where mobile hosts communicate with each other in the same domain. Simulations are carried out under several scenarios involving UDP and TCP transfers. Mobile host speed and base station buffer size variables have been changed throughout the simulations. The result show that use of L2 triggers reduces handoff latency as both FMIP Post-Reg and Pre-Reg have better performance than HMIP without L2 triggers. The results also show that FMIP Post-Reg is a good candidate for future MIP infrastructures with its low latency handoff characteristics due to bidirectional tunneling between old and new points of attachment. Moreover, the results suggest that FMIP Post-Reg is also the best handoff scheme under local traffic where mobile hosts communicate among each other in the same foreign network.

Book Radio Wave Propagation and Channel Modeling for Earth Space Systems

Download or read book Radio Wave Propagation and Channel Modeling for Earth Space Systems written by Athanasios G. Kanatas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accurate design of earth–space systems requires a comprehensive understanding of the various propagation media and phenomena that differ depending on frequencies and types of applications. The choice of the relevant channel models is crucial in the design process and constitutes a key step in performance evaluation and testing of earth–space systems. The subject of this book is built around the two characteristic cases of satellite systems: fixed satellites and mobile satellite systems. Radio Wave Propagation and Channel Modeling for Earth–Space Systems discusses the state of the art in channel modeling and characterization of next-generation fixed multiple-antennas and mobile satellite systems, as well as propagation phenomena and fade mitigation techniques. The frequencies of interest range from 100 MHz to 100 GHz (from VHF to W band), whereas the use of optical free-space communications is envisaged. Examining recent research advances in space-time tropospheric propagation fields and optical satellite communication channel models, the book covers land mobile multiple antennas satellite- issues and relative propagation campaigns and stratospheric channel models for various applications and frequencies. It also presents research and well-accepted satellite community results for land mobile satellite and tropospheric attenuation time-series single link and field synthesizers. The book examines aeronautical communications channel characteristics and modeling, relative radio wave propagation campaigns, and stratospheric channel model for various applications and frequencies. Propagation effects on satellite navigation systems and the corresponding models are also covered.
