Book Ending the Scandal of Complacency

Download or read book Ending the Scandal of Complacency written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Transport Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although road accident deaths have halved between 1958 and 2007 whilst the number of licensed motor vehicles and vehicle mileage covered increased by 400 per cent, the current rate of 3,000 deaths and 250,000 injuries is still an unacceptably high level. Road accidents are the largest single cause of death for people between the ages of 5 and 35 in Britain, and road accidents cost our economy some £18 billion each year. The number of deaths and injuries on roads far outweighs the deaths and injuries in other transport modes, and should be viewed as a major public health problem. The Government should establish a British Road Safety Survey to track overall casualty and safety trends, and review current methods for recording road-traffic injuries. The Committee recommends a systems approach to road safety: ensuring the vehicle, the road infrastructure, regulations and driver training are designed to similar safety and performance standards. Other recommendations include: more 20 mph speed limits; a more proactive approach to determining the safety benefits of new vehicle technologies; action on young drivers - who represent a disproportionate risk to road users - and vulnerable users: motorcyclists, elderly and child pedestrians and cyclists, horse riders; a higher priority given to enforcement of drink-drive and drug-drive offences. The Committee recommends the establishment of an independent Road Safety Commission with powers to work across the whole of government, ensuring that a high priority and adequate resources are given to road safety and that all government departments and agencies give active support. The Government should also establish a road accident investigation branch, like those in aviation, rail and marine.

This book was released on 2022-04-08 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the COVID-19 pandemic, computational intelligence and computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have supported the effective treatment of the virus. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been playing a significant role in the rapidly emerging healthcare sector in terms of CAD, software algorithms, hardware implementation, and applications in the medical field. Through this, the constraints of the traditional system must be addressed to innovate and shed light on emerging healthcare technologies. Computational Intelligence and Applications for Pandemics and Healthcare explores the state-of-the-art computational intelligence approaches in medical data and classifies existing computational techniques used in medical areas. It discusses the tactics and methods as well as the limitations and performances of computational intelligence applications for healthcare. The constraints of traditional healthcare systems are addressed by using CAD and computationally-intelligent medical data. Covering topics such as cloud-based monitoring systems, detection and diagnosis, and intelligent medical systems, this book is an excellent resource for computer scientists, government officials, medical students, medical professionals, hospitals, researchers, and academicians.

Book Information Technology in Medical Diagnostics III

Download or read book Information Technology in Medical Diagnostics III written by Waldemar Wójcik and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-10 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The science of biomedical measurements is experiencing a period of rapid development. Biomedical measuring systems are becoming increasingly accurate on the one hand and complex on the other. In order to make progress in this field, metrological problems must be solved using a systemic and formal approach. To this end, it is necessary to define the components of the system and the rules for their interaction, which allows the creation of a mathematical model. In this way, any technology or object can be presented in the form of a structure on which the necessary estimates can be formulated and synthesis, including metrological one, can be made. The authors have observed that despite the significance of the problem, few scientific centres deal with this issue in a generalised manner. Hence the idea of bringing together the achievements of the centres from Russia, Poland and Kazakhstan in one joint publication. The first and second volumes of Information Technology in Medical Diagnostics found readers not only in Poland, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan but also Spain, Russia and the Czech Republic. Following the readers’ suggestions, in the third volume of ITMD we returned to the formula of closed chapters known from volume one. Due to its limited volume, the book deals with the aforementioned issues in only selected areas of biomedical engineering. The book will be of interest not only for academics and engineers but also for professionals involved in biomedical engineering, seeking solutions for the problems that cannot be solved using "traditional" technologies or trying to improve existing measurement systems.
