Book Photoregulation of Enzyme Synthesis in Euglenia

Download or read book Photoregulation of Enzyme Synthesis in Euglenia written by Andrew Cannons and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mitochondrial citrate synthase was purified from dark-grown Euglena gracilis klebs strain z Pringsheim using ATP-activated agarose. The homogenously pure protein was characterised (subunit molecular weight = 44,000 daltons) and used for antibody production in rabbits. The anti-serum obtained was then used as a method to detect nascent citrate synthase in rabbit reticulocyte lysates programmed with Euglena poly (A) + RNA in order to determine the presence of citrate synthase MRNA in relation to enzyme expression........

Book Isoenzymes of Malate Dehydrogenase in Division Synchronized Cultures of Euglena Gracilis

Download or read book Isoenzymes of Malate Dehydrogenase in Division Synchronized Cultures of Euglena Gracilis written by Barry Davis and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sucrose density gradient centrifugation of broken cell suspensions of phototraphically grown Euclena gracilis Klebs Z has allowed the separation of chloroplastss mitochondria and peroxisomes. Chlorophyll was taken as a marker for chloroplastsy fumarase and succinate dehydrogenase for mitoctiondria and glycollate oxidoreductase for peroxisomes. Peaks of malate dehydrogenase (.......) activity were found in the mitochondrial and peroxisomal fractions. Acrylamide gel electrophoresis showed specific isoenzymes in the mitochondrial and peroxisomal fractions and a third isoenzyme in the supernatant. The apparent Km's for oxaloacetate and NADH have been determined for the individual isoenzynes...........

Book Euglena Biochemistry Cell and Molecular Biology

Download or read book Euglena Biochemistry Cell and Molecular Biology written by Steven D. Schwartzbach and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-19 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This much-needed book is the first definitive volume on Euglena in twenty-fire years, offering information on its atypical biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, and potential biotechnology applications. This volume gathers together contributions from well-known experts, who in many cases played major roles in elucidating the phenomenon discussed. Presented in three parts, the first section of this comprehensive book describes novel biochemical pathways which in some instances have an atypical subcellular localization. The second section details atypical cellular mechanisms of organelle protein import, organelle nuclear genome interdependence, gene regulation and expression that provides insights into the evolutionary origins of eukaryotic cells. The final section discusses how biotechnologists have capitalized on the novel cellular and biochemical features of Euglena to produce value added products. Euglena: Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology will provide essential reading for cell and molecular biologists with interests in evolution, novel biochemical pathways, organelle biogenesis and algal biotechnology. Readers will come away from this volume with a full understanding of the complexities of the Euglena as well as new realizations regarding the diversity of cellular processes yet to be discovered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eight years have elapsed since the first International Meeting on Plant Mitochondria was held in Marseilles. Since this date numerous important developments have occurred within the field and hence a further conference on this fundamental area of research was considered well overdue. This volume summarises the lecture and poster sessions of the second International Meeting on Plant Mitochondria held in Aberystwyth, July 20- 24th, 1986. The meeting was held not only to bring together plant scientists interested in the bioenergetics of plant mitochondria but also those who are interested in the regulatory role of mitochondria in plant growth and respiration. A further important aspect of this conference was to introduce plant physiologists and biochemists to the plant molecular biologists in an attempt to not only discuss problems of mutual interest but to also learn much more about the real questions which the biochemists and physiologists wish to answer. Hopefully the volume reflects much of the current excitement and advances being made in the field. Although many of the participants of the first meeting were present the expertise of Walter Bonner, Jack Hanson and Gaston Ducet, to name but a few, was sorely missed. The conference consisted of forty-five minute review lectures followed by thirty minute research lectures, the summaries of which are found in the longer articles. The meeting was divided into four seSSions, namely, organisation of the electron transport chain; mitochondrial interactions; mitochondrial biogenesis and plant growth and development.
