Download or read book CATECISMO POPULAR DE LA PENITENCIA written by Diego Muñoz and published by Editorial San Pablo Colombia. This book was released on with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Preaching and New Worlds written by Timothy Johnson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays examines the polyvalent concept of "New Worlds" in the context of medieval and early modern sermon studies. While the terms "Old World" and "New World" are commonplace in studies of Europe and the Americas, this volume explores how preaching in the Atlantic world and beyond creatively engaged audiences in addressing new cultural and religious perspectives regardless of their geographical location and time period. The identification of the "other" in sermons is already an implicit recognition of a novel world, which could be equally enticing and intimidating. The scholars represented in this volume examine a wide panorama of medieval and early modern efforts as they identify how sermons, which often served as a highly effective media of mass communication, reflect shifting identities, sometimes contested and sometimes embraced, within long-standing traditional constructs. Particular themes include apocalypticism, art and mission, cultural interaction, multilingualism, forms of religious life, and theological innovation.

Download or read book Introduction to Sacramental Theology written by Jose Granados and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2021-06-18 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Sacramental Theology presents a complete overview of sacramental theology from the viewpoint of the body. This viewpoint is supported, in the first place, by Revelation, for which the sacraments are the place where we enter into contact with the body of the risen Jesus. It is a viewpoint, secondly, which is firmly rooted in our concrete human bodily experience, thus allowing for a strong connection between faith and life, creation and redemption. From this point of view, the treatise on the sacraments occupies a strategic role. For the sacraments appear, not as the last of a series of topics (after dealing with Creation, Christ, the Church), but as the original place in which to stand in order to contemplate the entire Christian mystery. This point of view of the body, which resonates with contemporary philosophy, sheds fruitful light on classical themes, such as the relationship of the sacraments with creation, the composition of the sacramental sign, the efficacy of the sacraments, the sacramental character, the role of the minister, or the relationship of the sacrament with the Church as a sacrament. As a result of this approach, the Eucharist takes on a central role, since this is the sacrament where the body of Jesus is made present. The rest of the sacraments are seen as prolongations of the eucharistic body, so as to fill all the time and space of the faithful. This foundation of the theology of the sacraments in eucharistic theology is supported by an analysis of the patristic and medieval tradition. In order to support its conclusions, Introduction to Sacramental Theology examines the doctrine of Scripture (especially St. John and St. Paul), the main patristic and medieval authors (St. Augustine, Hugh of St. Victor, St. Bonaventure, St. Thomas Aquinas), the response of Trent to the protestant challenges, up to modern authors such as Scheeben, Rahner, Ratzinger, or Chauvet, including the teaching of Vatican II about the Church as a kind of sacrament.

Download or read book Immaculate Conceptions written by Rosilie Hernández and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2019-08-22 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immaculate Conceptions examines devotional writings, religious and literary texts, and visual art that feature the mystery of the immaculacy of the Virgin Mary in the culture of early modern Spain. The author’s analysis is motivated by the complexity and multivalent capacity of the doctrine and its icon at a time when the debates around Mary’s conception imbued all levels of religious and social life. She considers the many interests – political, doctrinal, artistic, and gender-driven – that intersect and compete in the exegesis and textual and visual representations of the Immaculate Conception. She argues that the Immaculate Conception of Mary proved to be a fertile conceptual and ideological field wherein the identities of the Spanish state, local communities, and individuals were negotiated, variously defined, and contested. The study’s broader aim is to delineate a speculative category, the religious imagination, defined as a spiritual, intellectual, or artistic pursuit in which the individual is committed to sacred truth yet articulates this truth through contingent, partial, and contextually determined theological propositions. The representational status of the image and its relationship to theories of physical sight and spiritual vision are central to the author’s formulation of this category.
Download or read book Mary God Bearer to a World in Need written by Maura Hearden Fehlner and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "All who live yearn for freedom--freedom from political oppression, poverty, disease, crime, war, and misery in all its forms. Christians believe that only God has the infinite wisdom, resources, and will to provide what we so desperately need. The contributors to Mary, God-Bearer to a World in Need offer scholarly explorations of ways in which the woman who bore God Incarnate into human history might help humankind to open its creaturely finitude to God's infinite possibilities. By relating such topics as faith, justice, economics, family life, and interreligious dialogue to Marian doctrine, humanity gains new insights useful for healing society's bleeding wounds. In these essays, the God-Bearer becomes present to a world still very much in need of the divine grace mediated through her motherhood."
