After a nine‑month separation from her husband, Michael, Alyce escapes to the beach. She is processing her pending identity as a divorced woman, although divorce goes completely against her faith and her belief in “for better or for worse.” Parts of Alyce she long thought dormant begin to awake. On her first day at the beach, she meets Ben, and they strike up an unexpected and surprising friendship. Alyce also soon develops a newly defined relationship with God and finds peace with her circumstances. Michael, meanwhile, is confronting his own life choices. When he decides he wants his wife and his life back to “normal,” he must follow an intriguing trail to find Alyce at the beach. Once he arrives, nothing is as he anticipated… Within Surviving Love, readers follow a story of finding hope and love again in marriage. The options of divorce and reconciliation are addressed in a marriage that has been ravaged by infidelity. What influences personal choice between popular opinion and following one's convictions? Surviving Love features individuals who are navigating very common ground, while exposing the impact of the uniqueness of their stories. Readers are intrigued by Alyce's struggles to maintain her identity no matter the direction life may take. What choices must she make that will reflect upon her confidence in God's promises? Book Following Wisdom Leading Wisely

Download or read book Following Wisdom Leading Wisely written by Jeff Roper and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-02-21 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If it is true that "everything rises and falls on leadership," we have a problem. A recent international survey revealed that 86 percent of respondents believe we are facing a global leadership crisis. The study encompassed leadership in business, government, the non-profit sector, and religion. Non-profit and business leaders ranked highest in terms of public confidence. Government leaders ranked very low. The only leaders to rank lower than government leaders were religious leaders. This leadership crisis is not driven by an absence of leaders. Leaders are everywhere, yet we still have a leadership crisis. Nor is this crisis caused by a lack of leadership training. Who can keep up with the books, seminars, and training programs offering the latest trends and best thinking on leadership? And yet, we still have a leadership crisis. While the world is looking for better leadership methods, God is looking for better leaders--leaders shaped by wisdom. What use, after all, is getting things done, or even servant leadership, without wisdom? In Proverbs we discover an ancient training regimen for leaders, guiding them in the cultivation of virtuous character. Following Wisdom, Leading Wisely is an invitation to rediscover this ancient wisdom for today's leaders.

Book The Emancipation of Mr Cash

Download or read book The Emancipation of Mr Cash written by Lance Levens and published by BookLocker.com, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-07-25 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Cash is addicted to the mayo-drips and brown buns of a Big Mac, so he undergoes a colonoscopy. Under anesthesia he dreams about his advanced high school history class (three African American super stars) and the sometimes-salacious diary they’re reading from the Civil War. The diary concerns Charles’s own ancestors, specifically the picaresque adventures of Cato Cincinnatus Cash (“CC”), med school failure and dope addict, and his paramour, Lulu Hartmann, German bi-sexual chanteuse. Charles’s three students fall in love with CC and Lulu and their troupe, including Little Bug, a black boy about eleven who carries a frog leg around his neck that from time to time, turns into a wise counselor who keeps the little man from getting depressed. Isabell Feinberg, school art teacher and Charles’s fiancé, points out that his students love him, but he has only shown them white people in the war. What they really want is to learn about slavery. What was it like? How did the slaves survive? Charles, a white man, is convinced even he can’t teach them that…until he is himself transformed in his dream into a black slave and is hauled away to a rice plantation on the Pedee River to serve as a secretary for a masked, brutal plantation owner. Little Bug and Mr. Jam save him and bring him back to his classroom where his three black students are ecstatic. In his dream CC and Lulu are married and Charles and Isabelle are married. During Charles’s ceremony, a trumpet sounds. The walls of the chapel fall away, and from all over the south, graves open and the dead of both north and south rise. They’re grinning and they all march forward toward Charles. He's stunned and relieved and a burden is lifted from his heart. When Charles wakes up from his colonoscopy, (which took 30 minutes), he proposes to the real Isabelle and tells her he has been granted a vision. He’s a lackluster Episcopalian, who doesn’t normally believe in visions, but this one he believes. He is free from the Civil War, his ancestor CC, and his parents. He proposes marriage. The end.

Book Not for Publication

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With Thailand preparing for the ASEAN Summit of 2015, the welfare of visitors to the so-called Land of Smiles has become a major issue. Every day tourists are bashed, robbed, drugged and murdered; many of these incidents going unreported in the press. European, Australian, American and Chinese governments have all warned Thailand that the welfare of their citizens while on Thai soil has become an issue of major concern. Not For Publication is the final novella of The Twilight Soi series which relate how an unlikely but commonplace story of a foreigner being robbed and deceived in Thailand became a national and international incident. The works, which have their origins in the City of Black Eyed Angels aka Bangkok, use a sociological technique called participant observation to explore the corrupt liaisons between the city's go-go bars, the mafia, the police and government officials. As well, written in a style somewhere between reportage and memoir, the books tell a deeply personal but all too common a story of a foreign tourist getting into trouble in the heady but treacherous atmosphere of the so-called Land of Smiles.
