Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mining and Mining Investments One chapter is devoted to showing the magnitude of the interests still involved after excluding coal and iron; and because these last are usually considered more as commercial undertakings than mining risks, so investments in them have been put in a different category from that in which it used to be the custom to include the speculation in mines of gold, silver, tin, copper, lead, etc. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Mining Investments and How to Judge Them Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mining Investments and How to Judge Them Classic Reprint written by Francis C. Nicholas and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mining Investments and How to Judge Them If one who casually buys a mining stock, be lieving, so he says, that he is stuck, yet hoping that the reports may prove true, could know all the struggle, pathos, hopes, despair and moments of triumph attending the effort for the financial development of a mining en terprise; one would sympathize with the pro moter, and wonder at the determination, which, if success is to be obtained, must meet and overcome prejudices, must encounter doubts, and incredulous disbelief during years of effort to find success in beating down all barriers, and obtaining the necessary capital to operate the mine. One who is strong enough to obtain his end against such opposition is calculated to succeed, and usually does make a success of his mine after obtaining the money to operate it. There is pathos and sorrow in the effort because all do not succeed, even though a life time is dedicated to the effort. One instance comes to my memory. A miner prospecting. Book California Mines and Minerals Classic Reprint

Download or read book California Mines and Minerals Classic Reprint written by Charles G. Yale and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-03 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from California Mines and Minerals Compiled by chas. G. Yale, Statistician State Mining Bureau. HE mining interests oi_ the State of California are so diversified, and the industry is extended over so wide an area, that it is difficult to describe the conditions which exist without using many pages of printed matter. For this reason it has been considered proper, in this pamphlet, to give merely a record of results, which will show in plain figures what is being accomplished by the miners of the State. This record shows that some forty-four mineral substances are being exploited, the annual valuation of which is now and increasing at the rate of about yearly, as capital is invested and more mines are opened. The older mines, too, having been well developed and equipped, are increasing their annual output, and thus also proving their permanency and value with depth. The climatic conditions are favorable to mining operations throughout the State, and means of transportation have been so improved as to greatly lessen costs of supplies, etc. There are abundant opportunities for the safe and profitable investment of capital in the various branches of the industry, as numerous claims which have been located have never been properly developed or equipped, their owners lacking the necessary means. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: - In 2003, four mining shares rose over four times in price, with one gaining ten times.- In just the first two months of 2004, 26 mining shares increased more than 20%, with five shares doubling.- Merrill Lynch's World Mining Trust is the UK's best performing fund over the past three years, having risen by over 200 per cent. But is the mining boom about to end?Not according to this book, by Michael Coulson, Chairman of the Association of Mining Analysts. Coulson argues that, if anything, we are still in the early stages of prolonged strength in mining stocks and despite what some commentators are saying, the boom is far from over.FROM THE BACK COVERThe prospect of instant riches gives the mining sector an obvious glamour. And when the mining sector begins to run it can be an awesome sight and the excitement generated can be every bit as seductive and heady as that which enveloped markets during the internet boom. But due to the counter-cyclical nature of many mining stocks, they can also offer a valuable refuge when stock markets turn down. In this book, Michael Coulson gives a masterly overview of the sector, explains both the rewards and the pitfalls of investing in mining shares and argues convincingly that mining should once again form a core sector for all investors. The book is for anyone interested in mining, and particularly mining as an investment. Whilst it contains material which will be useful to even experienced followers of the sector, its main target is those who are interested in mining but perhaps not particularly familiar with the sector, and would like to know more. All the subjects are covered that are fundamental to acquiring sufficient knowledge about the miningsector to invest in it with confidence. While the mining s

Download or read book Mining Schools in the United States Classic Reprint written by John A. Church and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mining Schools in the United States Our own country presents to-day an example of the dependence of industry upon knowledge which is quite as remarkable as that given above. Commissioner Ross Browne, in his report on our Western mines, says that experienced investors in mining property will not pay for a mine more than two and a half times its yearly profit. That is to say, they do not consider it a safe investment unless it returns forty per cent. Upon its cost.* The reason of this is plain. With no means of educating miners to their work, the conduct of mines in this country is a lamentable story of mismanagement, energy wrongly directed, and consequent great losses. The thousand millions of gold dollars that have been won from the ground in California are but an inadequate representation of the real wealth that existed there.1' Observers have estimated the losses which were at first caused by ignorant and hasty methods of working at two thirds of the gold really at hand, and none have put them at less than one half. A better state of affairs has gradually grown up, but the losses to this day are very much larger than they should be. In California, however.
