Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HIGH THROUGHPUT ANALYSIS FOR FOOD SAFETY MEETS FSMA REQUIREMENTS WITH THE LATEST ADVANCES IN HIGH-THROUGHPUT SCREENING High-Throughput Analysis for Food Safety addresses the fundamental concepts involved in the rapid screening for contaminants, including residual veterinary drugs, proteins, metals, hormones, pesticides, and adulterants. Addressing the need for—and requirements of—rapid screening tests, the book includes discussions of regulations and compliance issues from perspectives of both domestic and global industry and government contributors. The latest developments and most common techniques are focused on, with an emphasis on the applicability of both stand-alone mass spectrometry methods and coupled techniques. Beginning with a review of high-throughput analysis basics, the authors conduct a full exploration of mass spectrometry applications allowing readers to: Survey GC-MS, LC-MS, stand-alone MS, and tandem MS methods in foodanalysis and contaminant screening Review quality control standards, method validation, and ongoing analyticalcontrol Examine the current methods used to detect veterinary medicinal productresidues in food, as well as future directionsRecent Recent incidents around the globe have turned the food industry toward high-throughput analysis, and the Food Safety Modernization Act has made it a legal requirement in the US. This resource provides an in-depth discussion of the latest advances in methods and instrumentation.

Book Handbook of Dairy Foods Analysis

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dairy foods account for a large portion of the Western diet, but due to the potential diversity of their sources, this food group often poses a challenge for food scientists and their research efforts. Bringing together the foremost minds in dairy research, Handbook of Dairy Foods Analysis compiles the top dairy analysis techniques and methodologies from around the world into one, well-organized volume. Co-Edited by Fidel Toldra - Recipient of the 2010 Distinguished Research Award from the American Meat Science Association Exceptionally comprehensive both in its detailing of methods and the range of products covered, this handbook includes tools for analyzing chemical and biochemical compounds and also bioactive peptides, prebiotics, and probiotics. It describes noninvasive chemical and physical sensors and starter cultures used in quality control. Covers the Gamut of Dairy Analysis Techniques The book discusses current methods for the detection of microorganisms, allergens, and other adulterations, including those of environmental origin or introduced during processing. Other methodologies used to evaluate color, texture, and flavor are also discussed. Written by an International Panel of Distinguished Contributors Under the editorial guidance of renowned authorities, Leo M.L. Nollet and Fidel Toldrá, this handbook is one of the few references that is completely devoted to dairy food analysis – a extremely valuable reference for those in the dairy research, processing, and manufacturing industries.

Book Chemical Contaminants in Human Milk

Download or read book Chemical Contaminants in Human Milk written by Allan Astrup Jensen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-11-20 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Contaminants in Human Milk contains a comprehensive, up-to-date global review of the contamination of human milk with environmental and occupational chemicals. The book covers many different aspects of this problem, including the extent and benefits of breast-feeding, the transfer of chemicals into breast milk, analytical methodologies used in human milk studies, the levels of chemical contaminants in human milk, and geographical variations and time trends in levels. The many different factors that can influence the levels of contaminants in breast milk are also discussed. Other important topics examined include human milk contamination due to exposure of the mother at the workplace and the risk to her baby, the intake of toxic chemicals by breast-fed infants, calculated intakes and official limit values, the toxicological implications of human milk contamination based on available data from animal experiments and human studies. The book concludes with an overall assessment of the current situation, together with recommendations for future work. Chemical Contaminants in Human Milk is a valuable source of information for pediatricians and other health professionals, policy makers involved with ensuring the health and welfare of infants and nursing mothers, nursing mothers and organizations involved in the promotion of breast feeding, and individuals and organizations involved with the study and control of environmental pollution and occupational hygiene.

Book Environmental Specimen Banking and Monitoring as Related to Banking

Download or read book Environmental Specimen Banking and Monitoring as Related to Banking written by R.A. Lewis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a great dispar.ity between the ability of the major industrial nations to produce and distribute chemicals and our ability to comprehend the nature and potential severity of unintended consequences for man, his life support systems and the environment generally. Furthermore, the gap between our ability to produce and distribute myriad chemicals and our ability to identify, understand or predict unfavorable environmental impacts may widen. As environmental scientists we are conscious of the interrelatedness, not only of environmental systems, but of nations as well. Materials are continually moved across boundaries by human as well as natural agencies. The extent, rate and nature of transfer for most pollutants is largely unknown. We can only guess which of the numerous chemicals produced are candidates for concern. More important still is our practical ignorance of the mechanisms of chronic effects upon natural systems and of the concentrations, combinations and circumstances that may lead to irreversibilities or to serious consequences for man. We know very little also regarding the potential for or the kinds of indirect effects that might occur. With respect to the environmentltself, we know little of its assimilative capacity with regard to widely dispersed pollutants and their transformation products. But what we do know is disquieting, and a much-improved system for the evaluation and management of toxic and hazardous chemicals is needed.

Book Spectral Data for PCBs

Download or read book Spectral Data for PCBs written by Tees and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-06-15 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PCBs have been produced commercially for a long time and for a variety of uses. However, their chemical and physical stability has been found to be responsible for the PCBs environmental contamination problem. The discovery of widespread environmental occurrence of PCBs and their apparent link to carcinogenesis drew public attention to the problem, leading to new legislation regulating PCBs. Although regulations and requirements differ from country to country, there is a common global analytical interest in determining their presence in the different matrices and in the environment. The purpose of this book is to provide a comprehensive compilation of spectral data for the complete set of PCBs.
