Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Midnight Air, a historical romance novel, is a sublime and sexually seductive reading experience, brilliantly conceived and written by D.M. Miraglia to engage the adult reader. While visiting her grandparents for the summer, young Sarah Marie is intrigued by the book her grandmother continually reads and conceals from her. She locates a book by the same author and her summer vacation becomes enticing and educational for this innocent ten-year-old girl. As she reads forbidden words and tries to understand the adult world of romance, sexual pleasure, anguish and deception, she becomes captivated by the sensuous love story between two 18th century aristocrats. Colonel James, a talented and worldly military man is torn between duty and his passion for Mistress Sophia, a beautiful woman, and the daughter of his commanding officer, General Cartwright. Throughout their passionate relationship, Sophia discovers sensuous bliss and endures the agony of being apart from her stimulating lover, perhaps forever. Her challenges include becoming the lady of the house, dealing with a dangerous intruder, and growing stronger as a woman. Sophia is fortunate to find solace through friendship with the recently widowed Lady Stephens, an older, aristocratic woman. All of these events befall against a backdrop of sipping tea, admiring gardens, consuming books and dealing with treachery and treason.

Book excerpt: Teens waging a war of practical jokes declare peace when they fall for one another in this charming YA romantic comedy from Jessica Pennington. They have a love-hate relationship with summer. Sidney and Asher should have clicked. Two star swimmers forced to spend their summers on a lake together sounds like the perfect match. But it’s the same every year—in between cookouts and boat rides and family-imposed bonfires, Sidney and Asher spend the dog days of summer finding the ultimate ways to prank each other. And now, after their senior year, they’re determined to make it the most epic yet. But their plans are thrown in sudden jeopardy when their feud causes their families to be kicked out of their beloved lake houses. Once in their new accommodations, Sidney expects the prank war to continue as usual. But then she gets a note—Meet me at midnight. And Asher has a proposition for her: join forces for one last summer of epic pranks, against a shared enemy—the woman who kicked them out. Their truce should make things simpler, but six years of tormenting one another isn’t so easy to ignore. Kind of like the undeniable attraction growing between them. Download or read book Midnight s Children written by Salman Rushdie and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2010-12-31 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Booker prize and twice winner of the Booker of Bookers, Midnight's Children is "one of the most important books to come out of the English-speaking world in this generation" (New York Review of Books). Reissued for the 40th anniversary of the original publication--with a new introduction from the author--Salman Rushdie's widely acclaimed novel is a masterpiece in literature. Saleem Sinai is born at the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947, the very moment of India’s independence. Greeted by fireworks displays, cheering crowds, and Prime Minister Nehru himself, Saleem grows up to learn the ominous consequences of this coincidence. His every act is mirrored and magnified in events that sway the course of national affairs; his health and well-being are inextricably bound to those of his nation; his life is inseparable, at times indistinguishable, from the history of his country. Perhaps most remarkable are the telepathic powers linking him with India’s 1,000 other “midnight’s children,” all born in that initial hour and endowed with magical gifts. This novel is at once a fascinating family saga and an astonishing evocation of a vast land and its people–a brilliant incarnation of the universal human comedy. Midnight’s Children stands apart as both an epochal work of fiction and a brilliant performance by one of the great literary voices of our time.

Download or read book Nightmares And Thoughts Of A Vietnam Vet written by Melquiades "Mike" Ortiz and published by Author House. This book was released on 2006-11-29 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I write this book in hopes of reaching other service personnel or citizens that are experiencing the same feelings of, guilt, anger, or fears that I have suffered... because of a traumatic experience. I have learned that not only war, but also any kind of traumatic event can cause the symptoms of anger, anxiety, loneliness, frustration, isolation, flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts. My nightmares started before I left Vietnam, and they intensified with time. I did not know why I slowly changed, but these changes of uncontrollable outbursts of anger, frustration, isolation, anxiety, loneliness, and the horrible nightmares and flashbacks of Vietnam, caused a lot of suffering not only for me, but for my family, friends, and loved ones. It took me years to control my temper, and I learned to work only at night to keep the nightmares in check. This helped, but I still did not know the actual problem, only that there was something wrong, this kept me with stomach problems, chest pains, headaches, and edgy for many years. I would like to thank the Veterans’ Administration and the Loma Linda Veterans’ Hospital for the help I have received through them, and for giving my nightmares a name, “PTSD.” Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, that is what they diagnosed, and even though I refused to accept this at first, now I am learning how to deal with my problem. The professional and qualified personnel at the Veteran’s Hospital have given me strength, tools, training, and the support to fight my demons, and to write this book. I would also like to thank my wife, Elizabeth, my sons Michael, Paul, Paulo, Mark, and my daughters, Rosie and Majalia, for their support, encouragement, and understanding, to help me get out of the dark, and fight my demons.
