Book Microwave Properties of Partially Magnetized Ferrites

Download or read book Microwave Properties of Partially Magnetized Ferrites written by Jerome J. Green and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The microwave properties of partially magnetized materials have been investigated. The real parts of the components of the permeability tensor have been measured as a function of the ratios of saturation magnetization to angular frequency and average magnetization to angular frequency and location on the magnetic hysteresis loop on a yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and magnesium manganese ferrite (MgMnF). The high power threshold has been measured on YIG as a function of sample shape, the polarization of the rf magnetic field and the orientation of the rf field to the static magnetization. The Suhl and Schloemann theories for high power non-linearity have been extended to include arbitrary ellipsoids, linearly polarized rf magnetic field, anti-Larmor circularly polarized rf magnetic field, and arbitrary orientation between the rf magnetic field and the static magnetization.

Book The Use of Ferrites at Microwave Frequencies

Download or read book The Use of Ferrites at Microwave Frequencies written by L. Thourel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Use of Ferrites at Microwave Frequencies describes the applications of ferrites at microwave frequencies and the apparatus involved. Topics covered range from the properties of ferrites to gyromagnetic and non-reciprocal effects, ferrite isolators, circulators, and modulators. The use of ferrites in variable frequency filter cavities is also discussed. Mathematical explanations are reduced to the strict minimum and only the results of calculations are indicated. This book consists of seven chapters and opens with a review of the theory of magnetism, touching on subjects such as the BOHR magneton, diamagnetism and paramagnetism, ferromagnetism and antiferromagnetism, ferrimagnetism, and demagnetizing. The next chapter deals with the elementary theory of gyromagnetic effects and covers the kinetic moment theorem, precession of the spin moment, gyromagnetic resonance, complex permeability, and gyromagnetic effects in the atom. The reader is then introduced to ferrites and their properties; non-reciprocal effects and their applications; and ferrite isolators, circulators, and modulators. The final chapter describes the use of ferrites in the design of cavities whose resonant frequency is controlled by a magnetic field or filters with variable characteristics. This monograph is written primarily for microwave and electronics engineers.

Book Detection of Spinwave Instability Thresholds in Partially Magnetized Ferrites Using Dielectric Resonators

Download or read book Detection of Spinwave Instability Thresholds in Partially Magnetized Ferrites Using Dielectric Resonators written by Michael Geiler and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yittrium Iron Garnet Y2́3Fe2́6O2́12́2 and Lithium ferrite LiFe2́5O2́8 mono and poly crystals were investigated for their spinwave linewidth Î4Hk, ferromagnetic resonance linewidth Î4H and complex magnetic losses Îơ' and Îơ'' at L and S bands. Conventional methods of Spinwave linewidth typically require very high power microwave sources and associated high power components. Therefore, we developed a Dielectric Resonator (DR) based test method that allows for measurement of Î4Hk using low power, common microwave laboratory equipment, while providing additional capability to measure the other relevant magnetic material characteristics. The samples used in this research were 0.030" diameter, abrasive milled spheres provided by Pacific Ceramics Inc, and Ferrisphere Inc. and included a variety of standard off-the-shelf material offerings. The saturation magnetization Ms of the samples ranged from 75 Gauss to 3700 Gauss. The Î4H and Î4Hk of the samples were in the ranges of 0.5 to 200 Oersteds, and 0.5 to 30 Oersteds, respectively. Practical frequencies of operation for this system are 1 GHz to 20 GHz with less than 20W required RF power. Operation below 1 GHz and up to 40 GHz is possible. Reduction of intrinsic Ms in YIG in achieved by doping with Gadolinium and/or Aluminum. These additions were found to affect the microwave properties of the materials as well. Dopants like Cobalt, Manganese and Holmium do not effect the saturation magnetization but they do alter the high power microwave properties of the material similarly to Gd and Al. Several DRs were designed and modeled using Ansys HFSS electromagnetic finite element solver. We designed experiments that allow the measurement of all relevant microwave properties in one convenient test setup. This includes simultaneous control of multiple variables including RF field, frequency and power, and DC field strength.
