This book was released on 2018-06-21 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A micro-scale regenerative heat exchanger has been designed, optimized and fabricated for use in a micro-Stirling device. Novel design and fabrication techniques enabled the minimization of axial heat conduction losses and pressure drop, while maximizing thermal regenerative performance. The fabricated prototype is comprised of ten separate assembled layers of alternating metal-dielectric composite. Each layer is offset to minimize conduction losses and maximize heat transfer by boundary layer disruption. A grating pattern of 100 micron square non-contiguous flow passages were formed with a nominal 20 micron wall thickness, and an overall assembled ten-layer thickness of 900 microns. Application of the micro heat exchanger is envisioned in the areas of micro-refrigerators/coolers, micropower devices, and micro-fluidic devices. Download or read book Microscale Combustion and Power Generation written by Christopher Cadou and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2014-12-26 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in microfabrication technologies have enabled the development of entirely new classes of small-scale devices with applications in fields ranging from biomedicine, to wireless communication and computing, to reconnaissance, and to augmentation of human function. In many cases, however, what these devices can actually accomplish is limited by the low energy density of their energy storage and conversion systems. This breakthrough book brings together in one place the information necessary to develop the high energy density combustion-based power sources that will enable many of these devices to realize their full potential. Engineers and scientists working in energy-related fields will find: • An overview of the fundamental physics and phenomena of microscale combustion; • Presentations of the latest modeling and simulation techniques for gasphase and catalytic micro-reactors; • The latest results from experiments in small-scale liquid film, microtube, and porous combustors, micro-thrusters, and micro heat engines; • An assessment of the additional research necessary to develop compact and high energy density energy conversion systems that are truly practical.

Book Structural Optimization and Experimental Investigation of the Organic Rankine Cycle for Solar Thermal Power Generation

Download or read book Structural Optimization and Experimental Investigation of the Organic Rankine Cycle for Solar Thermal Power Generation written by Jing Li and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-09 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compared to the conventional Rankine cycle using water, the ORC can create efficient expansion at low power, avoid superheater and offer higher thermal efficiency in low temperature application. Small-scale ORCs from several kWe to a few hundred kWe offer great potential for meeting the residential demand on heat and power, and are of growing interest in scientific and technical fields. However, one critical problem is the decreased device efficiency and cost-effectiveness that arises when the ORC is scaled down. In this thesis, the ORC is combined with low concentration-ratio solar collectors. The background, research trend, merits and importance of the solar ORC are described. To reduce the thermodynamic irreversibility and the cost of the system, three innovative solutions are proposed: solar ORC without heat transfer fluid (HTF), which employs two-stage collectors and heat storage units; hybrid solar power generation based on ORC and amorphous silicon cells; osmosis-driven solar ORC. Heat collection, storage and power conversion are optimized. The design, construction and test of a prototype are conducted, demonstrating the feasibility of the ORC for small-scale cogeneration. Special attention is paid to the variable operation and parameter design with respect to the condensation temperature.

  • Publisher : Oxford University Press, USA
  • Release : 1989
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 464 pages

Download or read book Cryopumping written by René A. Haefer and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1989 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the physical theory, practical techniques, and applications of cryopumping--the production of a vacuum through the use of low temperatures. The importance of this technique has increased greatly in recent years due to the proliferation of new uses and the demand in many vacuum procedures for ultraclean gas atmospheres, low final pressures, and high specific pumping speeds. The author reviews recent developments that have resulted in safer pumps that allow full automation and that are superior to conventional pumps in installation and operation costs.
