Book Micro Resilience

Download or read book Micro Resilience written by Bonnie St. John and published by Center Street. This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn powerful, science-based techniques to boost focus, drive and energy hour-by-hour throughout the day -- every day. As leadership consultants and executive trainers, Bonnie St. John and Allen P. Haines have heard the same complaints from clients for years; periodic burnout, lack of focus and low energy. So they dug into the latest research on neuroscience, psychology and physiology looking for big answers. Instead they found small answers; proof that small adjustments in daily routines, including thought patterns, food and drink, rest and movement can fight the forces that sap our energy and store focus and drive. They call these amazing efficient restorative techniques "micro-resilience." Thousands of men and women from all walks of life have already found effortless ways to incorporate these little changes into the busiest of schedules. Dozens of entertaining anecdotes from real people using micro-resilience demonstrate that when our brains fire faster, our energy increases and we can cope with almost any surprise, pressure or crisis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultivate resilience by incorporating small challenges (also known as micro-adversities) in your classroom with effective, trauma-informed strategies that are proven to improve behavior, increase engagement, and empower students to achieve. One in four children have witnessed or experienced a traumatic event by the age of 16 that can affect behavior and learning. Fortunately, educators of all grade levels can inspire resilience and grit that helps students adapt to change and overcome hardship with simple everyday activities. This book offers a breakthrough method for building community and empowering your students with a new strategy: micro-adversity. By experiencing small failures, students learn to overcome them and thrive. Written by two teachers, one a former US Army Ranger, this method combines the extensively trained military perspective with the important foundations of trauma-informed education.

Book Measuring the Macroeconomic Resilience of Industrial Sectors in the EU and Assessing the Role of Product Market Regulations

Download or read book Measuring the Macroeconomic Resilience of Industrial Sectors in the EU and Assessing the Role of Product Market Regulations written by Fabio Canova and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the characteristics of sectoral cycles in EU countries and investigates the reasons which might explain differences in the adjustment capacity of sectors and countries to economic shocks; broadly defined as unforeseen changes to business conditions. In particular, it evaluates the role played by institutional factors and product market reforms in accelerating this adjustment capacity. Product market reforms are institutional changes of microeconomic (sectoral) nature implemented to improve the functioning of product markets. In Europe such reforms include a wide range of measures spanning from the creation of the Single Market, to liberalization and regulatory reforms in network industries, to reforms in the business environment, competition policy, and state aid.

Book Regions and Economic Resilience

Download or read book Regions and Economic Resilience written by Raul Ramos and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-14 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term “resilience” originated in environmental studies and describes one’s biological capacity to adapt and thrive under adverse environmental conditions. Regional economic resilience is defined as the capacity of a territory’s economy to resist and/or recover quickly from external shocks, often even improving on its prior situation (before the shock). The contributions in this book analyse different channels related to processes of mitigation (resistance–recovery) and adaptive resilience (reorientation–renewal), in a wide variety of geographical settings and scales. While the different chapters include relevant methodological advances in this literature, they also obtain relevant results from a policy perspective. Moreover, the wide spectrum of topics and analyses among the contributions in this book extend the current framework, to analyse regional economic resilience, from the intersection of several disciplines involving geographers, economists and demographers, as well as environmental scientists.

Book Researching Resilience

Download or read book Researching Resilience written by Linda Liebenberg and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2009-10-10 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While categorization has always been one of the primary focuses of the social sciences, recent trends within these disciplines have tended to categorize various behaviours as disorders. Researching Resilience challenges this tendency to pathologize, and marks a profound shift in research methods from the study of disorder to the study of well-being. This collection assembles qualitative and quantitative studies from a diverse group of scholars and disciplines, stressing the importance of studying the strength and resilience of youth who are faced with adversity. Working with youth in a variety of cultures and contexts, the contributors provide critically astute analyses of existing scholarship as well as rigorous methods for conducting resilience research in less Eurocentric and more culturally sensitive ways. An important collection, Researching Resilience is unique in approaching interventions with youth specifically from the point of view of research methods and challenges.

Book Resilience in Healthcare Leadership

Download or read book Resilience in Healthcare Leadership written by Alan Belasen, PhD and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-01-20 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 Pandemic has been an ultimate challenge for leadership resiliency. Resilient leaders are thoughtful and deliberate. They balance logic and emotion, ego and humility. They lead through compassionate empathy by focusing on the ‘how’, not only the ‘what’. They use their influence to drive positive change, diversity and inclusion, and create an equitable community. Most books on resilient leadership appear to focus on spirituality and tools to grow an “unshakable core of calm, strength, and happiness” or “bounce back without getting stuck in the toxic emotions of guilt, false guilt, anger, and bitterness”. These books are very similar to handbooks focusing on mental toughness and providing guides for overcoming adversity and managing negative emotions. This book, however, defines resilience as a critical competency of high-performing leaders. Leaders must cultivate resilience in themselves and foster it throughout their organizations and multidisciplinary teams in order to adapt and succeed. Resilience in Healthcare Leadership is differentiated by offering practical strategies and self-assessment instruments for identifying strengths and weaknesses and for developing and sustaining the performance of resilient leaders. The book will also focus on best practices to help build a talent pipeline and develop resilient care team leaders to effectively manage the challenges of disruptive environments. Whether senior or mid-level manager the reader will learn to apply knowledge and skills to initiate cultural change, assess strengths and weaknesses, align leadership roles with organizational goals, and position themselves to become a resilient leader. The reader will also learn how to identify message strategies consistent with stakeholders’ needs, resolve conflicts, lead multidisciplinary teams, and realize the impact of resilient leadership in influencing outcomes. Takeaways and tools are included to guide progressive learning and leadership development and build a strong succession pipeline, to help organizations become more prepared to respond to challenges facing healthcare leaders in the future.

Book The Role of Art and Culture for Regional and Urban Resilience

Download or read book The Role of Art and Culture for Regional and Urban Resilience written by Philip Cooke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the influence of art and culture as an engine to promote the resilience of regional and urban economies. Under a multidiscplinary perspective, the book examines the contribution of some creative regions and cities as places in which processes of transformation, innovation and growth are activated in response to external pressures. Through different theoretical frameworks and empirical investigations and suggesting a critical discussion of the notion of resilience, the authors argue that cultural and creative resources may offer a sustainable model in order to afford different typologies of shocks. The book will appeal scholars of regional and urban science and cultural and creative economies and will open up a number of considerations for policy makers. This volume was originally published as a special issue of European Planning Studies.
