Book Micro and Nanomachining Technology Size Model and Complex Mechanism

Download or read book Micro and Nanomachining Technology Size Model and Complex Mechanism written by Xuesong Han and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014-01-27 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in science and technology such as online monitoring techniques, coupling of various processing methods, surface characterization and measurement techniques have greatly promoted the development of ultraprecise machining technology. This precision now falls into the micrometer and nanometer range - hence the name micro & nanomachining technology (MNT). Machining is a complex phenomenon associated with a variety of different mechanical, physical, and chemical processes. Common principles defining control mechanisms such as O Jamie de geometry, Newton mechanics, Macroscopic Thermodynamics and Electromagnetics are not applicable to phenomena occurring at the nanometer scale whereas quantum effects, wave characteristics and the microscopic fluctuation become the dominant factors. A remarkable enhancement in computational capability through advanced computer hardware and high performance computation techniques (parallel computation) has enabled researchers to employ large scale parallel numerical simulations to investigate micro & nanomachining technologies and gain insights into related processes. Micro and Nanomachining Technology - Size, Model and Complex Mechanism introduces readers to the basics of micro & nanomachining (MNT) technology and covers some of the above techniques including molecular dynamics and finite element simulations, as well as complexity property and multiscale MNT methods. This book meets the growing need of Masters students or Ph.D. students studying nanotechnology, mechanical engineering or materials engineering, allowing them to understand the design and process issues associated with precision machine tools and the fabrication of precision components.

Book Control of Cutting Vibration and Machining Instability

Download or read book Control of Cutting Vibration and Machining Instability written by C. Steve Suh and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents new developments on machine tool vibration control based on discontinuous dynamical systems Machining instability is a topical area, and there are a wide range of publications that cover the topic. However, many of these previous studies have started by assuming that the behavior of the system can be linearised. Meanwhile, there are many recent advances in the fields of signal processing, nonlinear dynamics, and nonlinear control, all of which are relevant to the machining stability problem. This book establishes the fundamentals of cutting mechanics and machine tool dynamics in the simultaneous time-frequency domain. The new nonlinear control theory developed by the authors that facilitates simultaneous control of vibration amplitude in the time-domain and spectral response in the frequency-domain provides the foundation for the development of a controller architecture universally viable for the control of dynamic instability including bifurcation and chaos. Once parameters underlying the coupling, interaction, and evolution of different cutting states and between the tool and workpiece are established, they can then be incorporated into the architecture to create a control methodology that mitigate machining instability and enable robust, chatter-free machine tool design applicable in particular to high speed micro- and nano-machining. Presents new developments on machine tool vibration control based on discontinuous dynamical systems Provides a clear and concise approach to the understanding and control of machine tool and workpiece vibrations from an alternative view, contributing to an in-depth understanding of cutting dynamics and robust control of machining instability Equips the reader with the knowledge to understand the dynamics of cutting and operation of machine-tool systems in different conditions as well as the concept of cutting instability control Includes data examples in MATLAB coding

Download or read book Nanoscience and Nanotechnology written by Glenn Clayton and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanotechnology combines solid state physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, biochemistry and biophysics, and materials science. It is a highly interdisciplinary area, meaning that it involves ideas integrated from many traditional discipline. Quantum nanoscience is the application of quantum theory to the design of new nanoscale materials and devices. Quantum Nanoscience explains functionality and structure in natural or engineered nanoscale systems through quantum mechanisms such as discretisation, superposition and entanglement. In the 19th century, decades of practice with heat engines led to the new science of thermodynamics. The understanding of the world captured by thermodynamics is now part of the fabric of engineering and effective design across a vast range of different technologies. Thermodynamics, quantum nanoscience is an enabling science for engineering and design of new nanotechnologies. Molecular nanotechnology (MNT) is a technology based on the ability to build structures to complex, atomic specifications by means of mechanosynthesis. This is distinct from nanoscale materials. Based on Richard Feynman's vision of miniature factories using nanomachines to build complex products (including additional nanomachines), this advanced form of nanotechnology (or molecular manufacturing) would make use of positionally-controlled mechanosynthesis guided by molecular machine systems. MNT would involve combining physical principles demonstrated by chemistry, other nanotechnologies, and the molecular machinery of life with the systems engineering principles found in modern macroscale factories. This book introduces the reader to the world of nanotechnology by giving them in-depth details of different aspects of the field.
